Pentons were awesome. As a kid I remember the Six Day 125s were the most common in my area. They really punched above their weight and the radial fins made their engines look larger than their actual displacement.

Bought a brand new 72 Jackpiner from Cycle Dynamics in Feeding Hills, Mass and rode it for several years and just wore it out. I sure wish I had that machine again. I lived in Groton CT and was in the Navy and rode the power lines and trails all over that area. It was $1250 new.

Holy smokes, that's big bucks. I bought a new '75 Elsinore 125 in the fall of '75 (leftover) for $476 OTD from a local dealer in MI. I think the MSRP on those was close to $600.

@@bigcity2085 If you've seen a KTM, you saw a Penton. John Penton and the KTM factory worked together to design and manufacture these bikes. Check out the ISDT 1973. Penton ruled there, too.

When I was riding trail bikes(enduros) in the 70s most of us considered huskvarnas, pentons& hodakas as really cool ,obscure dirt machines.Yamaha endure was my weapon of choice.ride it to school ,& work & straight to the boonies for good clean fun.these were considered more serious machines for off road.thanks kappy!

I bought a new 175 Penton in 1974 from "The Dirt Bike Center" in Fayetteville, NC while stationed at Ft. Bragg. It came with Metzler tires. 🙂 Loved the bike. It was stolen several years back.

Great to see so much passion from someone who was fortunate enough to grow up in the 2 stroke era! Gotta mix fuel who cares let’s rock n roll and get that piston hittin hard!

  • @yabbadabba1975

need to get the leather strap for the fuel tank. Also, you forgot to mention how Penton stayed on top of suspension changes. My 1973 125cc bike had the conventional, at the time, axle to seat frame connections. The 175, as shown had moved the shocks halfway up the swing arm. In 1974, the 250 debuted with shocks at a 45 degree angle from the axle to halfway up the rear frame member. Those were Bilstein gas shocks. You could always count on constant improvement. BTW, my 100 was about 900, 175 was 1300, the '75 250 was around 1500. And you didn't need to buy a thing for the bike to be "state of the art." That's the Penton advantage

1980. I bought a 74 Penton exactly like this one. I put turn signals on, had it inspected and it was my first ride of any kind. Anywhere I went, I was on it.
    Loved that bike.

I remember the first one’s having the Sachs motors and it kind of surprised me when they went with the KTM motor. I had a 250 Hare Scrambler and it was the best bike ever to me. Of course I loved my Husqvarna 360 cr and loved Yamahas, but the Penton was my absolute favorite.

Not knocking Penton or any bikes but that is probably better than new. A fellow I know is best friends with Jack Penton and has a awesome collection of Penton bikes, I met the guy through a camper purchase, he raced for Penton and is the president of the Penton owners association. Cool bikes. From what he says jack Penton is a great person.

Laugh when you say, "this is the bike when we were kids that we look in the magazine and just drool on." I looked up "Penton Jackpiner" for exactly this reason, wanted to see what I could find. I recall a black and white photo somewhere of this bike and dreamed about having it. Wow. This was my original inspiration and I still woods ride at 61 years old. Wow.

I had 72 penton 175 back in 1974. I was 17. It had some flimsy metal fenders that I upgraded to plastic. It looked just like the one in this video except my engine was black. It was an awesome bike.

My brother had one of these when we were teenagers in the late 90's. I dont know what year it was but I know it had a leather strap holding down a fiberglass gas tank. It was low mileage and in great condition 100% original and all there no broken anything. He bought it for $150. The coil died a week later. It was so weird to us that we did not know what to do with it, Sold it for $100. Who ever bought it probably sourced the coil and had a bike that was worth north of $1500 a week later.

My brother had one. Seat height was very tall for a '71 especially compared to the 71 Bultaco Pursang 350 I have now. The Zundapp was fun and fairly fast. Real long shift throw, more than the Bul, which is a pretty long throw but it was left side which most seem to prefer.

No, it doesn't. At all. Just Google a 71 thru 74 Bultaco Pursang or Alpina. Totally different. Maybe a 75 up Bultaco Frontera kinda, but the Bultaco engine design was much smoother, rounder, compared to the slab sided, blocky KTM engine.
