Scotty, I think you'll like the Ford Fusion RS, or even more, the Ford Fiesta ST. The Fiesta ST has 200HP on an econobox body. Can't go wrong with that!
Erwin, modern 4 cylinder cars have more power than older 6 cylinder cars. And with a turbo, they're pretty close to 8 cylinder cars of the past. The 1998 Mustang 4.6 L V8 had the same HP as this 4 cyl.
I drove one up and down the street one time. While I was thinking about how quiet it was and didn't have the feel of a muscle car, I noticed that I was already doing 65 without even trying. Yeah! And then another 8 cylinders and 2 turbochargers and it’s no longer a Ford. It’s a Bugatti with a W16! It’ll do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and it will bend the very fabric of space and time by exceeding 250 mph.
I had one for a rental for a week. Totally amazing. Even going 70 on the freeway, if you step on it you take off like you had been standing still. The torque is unreal for a 4 cylinder. So much fun. I'm thinking about buying a used one; but I think I'm going to go for the V6. Performance is almost identical; but the 6 should last longer.
I'm renting one right now. Underpowered AF. Idk what all you 4 cylinder fanboys are smoking. Has a decent amount of torque at like ONE thousand rpms. Then it very quickly just runs out of steam as soon you get any rpms. Lacks any kind of high rpm power that a V8 has
I was wondering about the 4 cylinder being able to last like 6 or V8. Seems to me the power would be too much for the 4 cylinder over a period of time.
V6 is older than the 2018 models. Go with the Turbo. Can use regular gas (will give a little less than 300HP) or Premium. you ust don't get the deep Rumble of the v8 engine. WAY better gas mileage.
Thank you Scotty for the great review! I'm on my 4th Mustang and still figuring out the 4 cylinder Ecoboost engine, its a really fun learning experience!!

I’ve owned a 4-cylinder 2015 EcoBoost Premium convertible Mustang since June of 2015. I have gotten as high as 34 MPG on the highway, which is something that no V8 Mustang can ever do. But, for day-to-day driving, it’s really not that spectacular in the MPG department - I average about 22 MPG in daily driving. Because I just can’t *not* step on it when I drive it. :-) One caveat - you only get the max HP and max torque if you use 93-octane fuel. It drops to 275HP and (I believe) 300 lb-ft of torque if you use 87-octane fuel. It absolutely *is* noticeable when you switch from 87 to 93 and back. In the mid-range of the RPM band, you can *really* feel the computer pulling the ignition timing back a *lot* when you’re on 87-octane, if you’ve gotten used to the power of 93-octane. So I always run 93 octane. Given the fact that you *must* run 93-octane to get the best power, and the fuel mileage is only about 15% better than the V8 in daily driving, I would choose the V8 if I had to buy my Mustang again. Not that I dislike the EcoBoost at all - it’s a great engine, and unbelievably amazing that they can suck 310 HP out of that thing, and I’m thoroughly enjoying owning it. But the MPG advantage and fuel-savings are just not really all that much in real-world driving. And if you can’t really save that much on fuel, then why bother *not* getting the V8, you know?

I am planning on getting one of these in like 5 years. Used of course. Hoping by then I can get a decent one with Lower mileage and that hasn’t been abused for around 10 to 15k that’s my dream
I had a 1989 4 cylinder hatchback and I rode it hard untill I sold it in 2000. One huge advantage over the more powerful versions was the tire size, the narrower tires were better in the winter for snow. The car did run cold so I had to put cardboard not only in front of the rad but behind it as well. It was a very reliable car, except for the little 4 inch cable for the clutch but I could change it out using a shoe to prop the clutch pedal up (one minute change out). The only issue was the electric rad fan cutting in and out rapidly when the outside temperature was around freezing and the humidity was high. Had the fan replaced, relay, computer but never did find the problem. Ended up putting a rocker switch in to disable the fan, it fit nicely between the door and the dash.
REMINDER; some tuning shops are now pushing the 2.3l ecoboost to 500 wheel horsepower on STOCK INTERNALS. so with some tuning cash you get a 4 cylinder that can smack the GT around while weighing less and having better weight distribution and getting better mileage. what a fascinating modern age we live in
+Ryukachoo But 500 at the wheels is slow. I have a Hennessy Camaro that would slap the dog shit outta that. With all that "Tuning cash" Your better off getting a V8. Its cheaper to get to 500 and your not pushing the motor to the limits and making it a 60k motor max. Not to mention those things sound like shitty ricey civics. I'll take my Hennasey ZL1 thats putting 750 to the ground. Laugh at hellcats and tell kids in there 4banger and v6 mustangs that it sounds just like a v8. How did they make is so rasspy thats awesome! Also lets not forget. 9/10 mustang owners who say they have 500hp rarely bring all 500. Most of the time its around 350 they bring to the ground.
+Ryukachoo So? There are guys in russia pushing the 3L SOHC engine in my 35 year old mercedes to over 700hp on stock internals, what's your point? Hell, the 30 year old 6 bolt mitsubishi 4g63 is known for being able to take 600hp on stock internals.
Your awesome man thanks for making this video and going over a few things the Eco boost has obviously accomplished in this newer take on the base model Stang. I love my Eco-boost and you may have touched on all the reasons I haven't taken the time to research.
The exhaust is responsible more than the engine for a car's sound, or so I've heard. With the correct exhaust I'm sure you could get a 4 banger sounding like any old V8 mustang
Informative and entertaining! I just uploaded a video of two cars I am considering purchasing. One is a 2019 Honda Civic Sport and the other one is a 2017 Mustang convertible. I'm replacing a 40th anniversary edition Mustang convertible and my heart is thumping towards the newer Mustang. My awesome viewer directed me to this video to help me understand more about the ecoboost engine. Thank you very much! Well done.
I love the independent rear suspension in the new mustang. My brother has the 2013 Mustang with the fixed suspension and every time it goes over a bump, it does a big 'ol Irish Jig and nearly fishtails. He should've waited to get the 2015, but he's getting one the second his lease expires on his current one.
Car and Driver recently tested the 310 h.p. 4 cyl. turbo and the 300 h.p. V6 automatics. The turbo averaged 19 mpg while the V6 averaged 22 mpg. The turbo did the 1/4 mile in 13.9 at 98 mph, and the V6 did it in 14.1 seconds at 102 mph. The base price on the turbo is around $27000 while the V6 is closer to $24500. After they added on options on the turbo it was almost $38000. YIKES
If I really wanted a mustang but couldn't afford the GT. As an enthusiasts I would go for the turbo 4, since I know with a flash tune I'd ger more power and improved fuel economy. Alot less effort then building up the 6 cylinder. also all turbo cars will get horrible gas milage if your always in boost.
Bought a 2019 black ecoboost automatic transmission. Base model. I love this thing. Its fast and sexy as hell. Coming from a kid that had a 2012 Sentra it's a dream come true plus it's my dream car !!
He had to say good things about his wife's Mustang. You know he got yelled at for pulling the ABS fuse and doing burnouts. He's probably still in the doghouse.
ya now he said if that new direct fuel injection is bad... I remember he say that on last video, few days ago. man watch this old video after the new one is really confusing.
Got put in a 2015 V6 Convertible as a rental when my fusion was in the shop in September. I absolutely loved that car. It was comfortable to drive, I enjoyed the back and push of rear drive, and it sounded great... The only down side was getting in and out practically at ground level...
I have this car. 2018 premium. I like it. Not as good as a v8 but it does do good gas mileage when I try. I got this for my personal reasons. Wanted to be safe on the money spending lol. I like the way it looks too.
I have a '16 ecoboost in comp orange like the one in this video and I absolutely love it. It is hard to part with that classic sound, but it's still a nice car with a lot of great power. My next car will def be a manual 5.0, but for someone looking for more of a daily driver that is still a lot of fun on the road, the ecoboost is a great choice. Mustang purists can get mad all they want, idgaf 😁
Michel Linschoten i never said stock.read above. Of course a 12 v6 would beat a 94 stock. Completely different generations and weight. Either way I sold it got a new car now
I'll say this: For someone like myself this checks a lot of boxes. 1. rear wheel drive 2. hand brake 3. stick shift 4. fairly reliable 5. good gas mileage and you don't have to use premium 6. good style, and the newer version looks way classier 7. not expensive as other brands. The only other cars that have all the above that are new are BMW's.
I has a lot of power for a 4 cylinder , I really like it , Scotty can you tell me what year that orange Mustang is is ? I had a few Mustangs in the past myself , Thank you and God bless ...
Ohhhhhh.. I love mustangssssss.. Scotty you make videos that make you laugh.. get you excited puts a smile on your face... But this one made me drool 😍
ROFL, laughing at all these 'it's got to be a V8 or it ain't a Mustang' comments!!! There have been just as many V6 and 4 cylinder Mustangs sold as the V8s, so give me a break. You want the V8, skip this video and go and buy a GT. A lot of us don't care about the noise factor from V8s in trucks and muscle cars...plus, get a V8 from the 80s-90s and put some Flowmasters on it and yeah it sounds tough but the 2.3L EB will eat it for breakfast.
i would hope a new car would be faster then a car from 1980. technology advances. i say get what you want. if you want the faster better sounding car get the v8. if you want the quick more practical car get the eco boost. it’s not science man
I know it's completely different and doesn't belong in this category but an RX8 with a 2 litre turbocharged 20b (or any car with the engine) can make ~600 bhp.
Having driven a couple for work, they're pretty decent honestly. Obviously the v8 is where its at, but that's just cause POWWA. The sport mode he puts it on? The computer revs and keeps the revs at, 4K. This is pretty interesting because, being a turbo, it's straight into boost you go. And it really is a smaller turbo honestly, so you run out of power pretty quick when you rev it out. Just when you think you'll get more power and go faster? It just flatlines... Sounds pretty cool though, just not the kinda sound you would expect from a mustang. Someone could hear it, and expect some kind of german or tuner car coming by, but no, its a weird mustang lol. It really is the perfect amount of power though, for the average consumer. You combine this with being a pretty comfortable car in the first place, and you have a nice ride. Oh and the convertible is awesome. This is honestly the only mustang ive liked so far, and it hurts to admit that. I would still get the v8 though..

Hey Scotty, love your channel. You know what’s more fun thatn a 4cyl mustang? A focus RS with the same updated engine!
This. Just makes so much more sense as a concept.
Your awesome man thanks for making this video and going over a few things the Eco boost has obviously accomplished in this newer take on the base model Stang. I love my Eco-boost and you may have touched on all the reasons I haven't taken the time to research.
You are one of the best Scotty!! about like a little kid who grew up and became a Madman with fun Way To Go Scotty..
You gave details on the Stang that no one else did. Great video
no offense but the 4 cilinder is great but a mustang just needs that typical V8 sound
Glasspacks on a 4-banger just don't do it.
Sea Edu proof?
Hondas are for girls!
The exhaust is responsible more than the engine for a car's sound, or so I've heard. With the correct exhaust I'm sure you could get a 4 banger sounding like any old V8 mustang
You can never get a 4 cylinder engine to sound like a V8.
Well done.
real sweet ride Ms. Townsel.
glad my man Mr. Scotty helped influence your decision.
buckle up and speed responsibly.
;)
I love the independent rear suspension in the new mustang. My brother has the 2013 Mustang with the fixed suspension and every time it goes over a bump, it does a big 'ol Irish Jig and nearly fishtails. He should've waited to get the 2015, but he's getting one the second his lease expires on his current one.
A friend of mine got one. It is the fastest 4cyl I have ever experienced. Totally amazed by it.
Just picked up my ecoboost convertible, super happy with it, and with gas prices these days, no regrets.
one of my friends bought the 2015 8 cylinder GT mustang!!! boy that that thing is a beast!!!
Ugh... Gotta have V8
+Ira Friedman Well your friend is an idiot then, since he didn't go for that flat plane GT350 engine.
+Skylar Garrett everyone got the get because they're idiots. It's a good car but the gt350 is a beast
+Skylar Garrett you're an idiot, why get a mustang when you could just get a ford gt? That's basically your logic
WowzaBoyz What? Howso? The GT350 is 9K more than the GT...
+G Bouc These prices make it pretty clear it's best to buy a second hand V8 model :D
G Bouc Yep, I average 29 to 30 MPG with My 2013 3.7 on My long 75MPH commute, depending on wind and temperature. I love the 3.7 V6
My 85 iroc has 210 hp v8. Sounds nice but sluggish compared to the newer mustang I'm sure.
Bought a 2019 black ecoboost automatic transmission. Base model. I love this thing. Its fast and sexy as hell. Coming from a kid that had a 2012 Sentra it's a dream come true plus it's my dream car !!
@roastmypig lol what do you drive a 90 civic
Been wondering about these Scotty. Good poop!
The way he said "it runs the water pump" when he's showing us the belts made me laugh so damn hard.
Lol me tooooo
That acceleration sounded pretty good (throaty) to me. Very impressive for a 4 banger.
but Scotty, I thought you don't like turbochargers! You said that if you wanted to go fast, you'd get a car with a bigger engine!
Who is this imposter and what has he done to the real Scotty?
He said time has changed and so has he!
Scottys face last second of video🙂, Long Live King Scotty!
I thought when you buy a mustang the last thing you should consider is gas mileage
Now you can drive a focus dressed as a mustang 😂
Gt on up
I actually get 21 mpg city, My old 2011 5.0 got 9.
I averaged 16mpg for my nearly 5 years of ownership 😭
The problem with mustang is the small fuel tank... It needs at least a 70lt tank
That’s why everyone love Mustang
Amazing.... 310 hp used to be V8 numbers, even as late as the 90s
Great video
I wish Ford would go with nostalgia and badge it as the Mustang SVO.
well since svo is no longer a thing its now SVT..
i agree...sounds much better than ecoboost.
problem is during that time the svo was better than the 5.0.
Saving SVO for something better
Wow. That 4 cylinder would smoke my old 5.0
*****???
Michel Linschoten not stock. Mine wasnt
Michel Linschoten my friend had a 2012 v6 I still smoked him easy. I had. 94 GT with upgrades
Michel Linschoten i never said stock.read above. Of course a 12 v6 would beat a 94 stock. Completely different generations and weight. Either way I sold it got a new car now
Michel Linschoten merry Christmas to you and our family man
Yep you're right times have changed that mustang has some nice features, sweet!!!!😁😁😁😁😁 Music to my ears LOLOLOL
Reliability though, how is it?
Been having this car ever since and I love everything about it besides the sound of course but oh well saving gas ⛽️
Scotty u r gonna make a fortune fixing those ecoboost motors in the near future....
My Mustang has 4 Cylinders on both sides of the engine.
A 4 banger Mustang is punking-out if you drive one buzz off dude-ette...
your so proud of yourself
Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!! Love ya for that!!! Hahahaha!!
Way to go. A 4 cyl Mustang is like a choked dick. The engine sound isn't that good, as if you had the V8.
Michael Stolz no shit it wont sound as good as a v8 dumbass
this comment wins the internet... lol... love it
Your right the times are a changing!
This is just a normal Ford focus engine with a turbo, Nothing big! Gotta have v8
+AikarambaGaming Ford Focus I have seen got 2.0 ltr with a turbo not a 2.3 ltr.
yeah why dont say it when is a bmw ? always talking about over engineering
+Rahul Jones the rs will have the 2.3 the st has the 2.0
+AikarambaGaming You forgot the entire purpose of this car.
I have one they are great and a lot of fun, try one out you wont be disappointed
Thank you because I want to buy one now I know I can buy one
But it sounds like a ford focus
it shares the same engine
Ok
totó V a v4?? lol
@@chrisr10cr ops Im so high 4 cylynder
Haha yeah right
Nice Accord. Glad Ford finally realized apple cart suspension isn't the best thing for performance.
I just got a 2018 EB Fastback. Awesome car, plenty of power and sporty as hell. Love it! V8 is nice, but noisy and a pain in the pocket.
I has a lot of power for a 4 cylinder , I really like it , Scotty can you tell me what year that orange Mustang is is ? I had a few Mustangs in the past myself , Thank you and God bless ...
Why does the 4cyl bring out the insecure boys with their toys?
It's a travesty that ford even let this happen. I guess if it keeps the factories open
I do love shitting on brand new v4 and v6 mustangs tho
😂 v4 he says
V4, haha
Although V4s exit, it's still funny.
FBI FBI GOT YO SHEEET
Manz Spartan IV Ace9 smh v4? Is that a boat engine?
Big ups Liquid Richard
I love Scottys videos. I wonder if his neighbors get annoyed with all the burnouts lol
Free car repairs are awesome tho
20spray1 They're at work when he's filming.
everybody in his neighborhood does burnouts.
I love mine, first mustang I have ever owned and I am in love
Zachary James just bought mine today👌🏽
Ohhhhhh.. I love mustangssssss.. Scotty you make videos that make you laugh.. get you excited puts a smile on your face... But this one made me drool 😍
Reminds me of my old 86' SVO.

ROFL, laughing at all these 'it's got to be a V8 or it ain't a Mustang' comments!!! There have been just as many V6 and 4 cylinder Mustangs sold as the V8s, so give me a break. You want the V8, skip this video and go and buy a GT. A lot of us don't care about the noise factor from V8s in trucks and muscle cars...plus, get a V8 from the 80s-90s and put some Flowmasters on it and yeah it sounds tough but the 2.3L EB will eat it for breakfast.
i would hope a new car would be faster then a car from 1980. technology advances. i say get what you want. if you want the faster better sounding car get the v8. if you want the quick more practical car get the eco boost. it’s not science man
my mustang is best mustang
Sterling Archer because lambo doors?
+Jett Klass yes
Mr regular? more like Mr regufur
+Voqa I'm OK with this
+Jett Klass absolutely disgusting
LOve your videos, tell it like it is, no sugar coating
It was fun to watch this guy 👏🏼
I prefer the 3.7 engine because it sounds better and will last longer . I avoid small turbo motors .
my 2.0 ecoboost in my focus st is almost at 100k and not one single issue
3.7 is a boat, too slow , no power, discounting for a reason
The turbo, electric steering, and all those fancy electronics sound like wonderful failure points with expensive repairs.
+Pibbles 'n Bits Learn electronics lol
+simon hare learning electronics won't help. the parts are still expensive and not made to be troubleshot to the component level.
literally every new car comes with this nowadays tho, want cheap? buy old
Pibbles 'n Bits nope. Our 13 year old mercedes B-class with 180k miles has also a electronic steering. It still works.
A45 amg 360 bhp 2.0 now that's fast for 2.0 turbocharged
+Unknownprick yes, but look at the price difference.
I know it's completely different and doesn't belong in this category but an RX8 with a 2 litre turbocharged 20b (or any car with the engine) can make ~600 bhp.
+DankinDolphin Sure it can, but does it from the factory?
That engine doesn't come in any car from factory xD.
Unknownprick It has a whole 60hp on that mustang :o
My first car was an 84' 2.3L turbo mustang. Not an SVO. Just the GT turbo. I still got the car.
