San Diego California Trains 2022

- San Diego County is famous for its scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. But, the region is also a great place to see a variety of different passenger trains as well as the occasional BNSF freight train. In this video, we will travel all over the greater San Diego area to see all sorts of different trains in the year 2022. Watch Coaster and Amtrak passenger trains skirt the waters of the Pacific, BNSF freight climbing the grades of Miramar, the unique Sprinter diesel rail cars rolling through the hills to Escondido, modern San Diego Trolley cars, and the Poway Midland Railway's quaint restored Baldwin steam locomotive traveling through Poway Park.

Awesome video Mike!! I always love to stop by and see trains in San Diego and San Diego County!
Never been to California, but their trains are beautiful!
Yeah that was then
@@Amrep335 Yeah I know
Sweet video. California Trains are always best. 👍🏻❤️💖
🙂
Thank you! They’re pretty neat!
The best video in my life!🚂 best of all!
The best way to start the month is with a CoasterFan2105 video.
Thanks for stopping by!
whenever I watch videos of American trains I'm amazed at the excessive horn blowing and bell ringing.
FRA Horn Rule 49 CFR Part 222 states that locomotive engineers must begin to sound train horns at least 15 seconds, and no more than 20 seconds, in advance of all public grade crossings. If a train is traveling faster than 60 mph, engineers will not sound the horn until it is within ¼ mile of the crossing, even if the advance warning is less than 15 seconds.
Crossing sequences are blown in Morris Code Q (Long, long, short, long) until the lead unit occupies the physical crossing.
Great quality, Mike. That's what I always like about your videos.
Nice California action! It was great to see Poway Midland #3 in operation!
I also decided to subscribe!

Mister Mike Armstrong, Happy Fourth of July, By The Way ! !
Oh my gosh, watching this in Holland and i think i saw my sister in law walking her dog alongside the track!!!
Question: Are the Amtrak California cars temporarily or permanently going to stay for Amtrak Surfliner?
I think they are there for the foreseeable future and more are on the way.
@@CoasterFan2105 oh ok.
@@MetxsightseerRailfan There is a car shortage, so until that changes, the California cars stay.
RIGHT ✅
Sweet! I love the Amtrak California cars
13:27 just thought the surfliner was comin'!
Great video always you do an amazing job at this and just keep up the outstanding work
Awesome video Mike

Another amazing video Mike. I heard a couple of days ago that you were down there filming and that a handful of railfanners were trying to find you which made you leave lol. Is this true? It was rumored spencer was down there as well. The two of you are big deals to us socal railfanners because we are your guys home
Thanks! I haven't been in SoCal since April, so that must've been somebody else. Last week, I was in Montana and earlier in June, I was in the Midwest.
@@CoasterFan2105 thats what I told them lol! I told them you were in Montana and they simply said you must've left early 🤣

@@CoasterFan2105 hey your welcome man!
Not gonna lie This video was so great even California trains make me feel so much Nostalgic which reminds me listening alot of Indie Aesthetic music :)
Great Catch Mike
You can tell these clips aren't in chronological order, because all the Coaster Cab Cars eventually got fitted with E-Bells. You may have filmed perhaps the very last clips of 2301 and 2307 with their original bells.
damn it
Nice video, so how about like the Auto Train, you can also ride on-board the New Jersey Transit Bergen County Line.
Was just in San Diego at this time!
I like your channel!!!
Good vídeo
10:29 that's probably the noisiest k5la I have ever heard!
I think that’s a K5L. Everyone says it is on 6953
Baldwin #3! 🎉
12:05 the familiar Noell street
8:36 the charger spoiler really "spoils" it! It literally can't match the height of the cars!
Well, To the future, eh champ?
Yeah to the future.
At 1:40 and 3:40 those have to be going at least 90 mph!
Mike the surfliner locomotive is designed as coasterfan locomotive
Nice video!

Happy Fourth of July, Everyone ! !
Hey Mike, do you know the estimated times and places where I can see some freight trains between Solana and San Diego downtown?
Cool video have thought to making one for Los Angeles?
Good video I needed this cheer up after I heard technoblade has passed away
Yo another coasterfan video
Do more steam locomotives
6:13 I heard an F18 Hornet in the backround, record it next time if you can!
Is Coaster running 4 car sets due to the cars being renewed or is this to make more trainsets?
fluctuates due to the overhaul process, many overlapping inspection dates, and various event consists we throw together.
Epik
Man it's cool to see another local San Diegan into trains like I am (although I'm a simp for planes). Thoughts on the new Blue Line Extension thru La Jolla? I wish they would've extended it to Sorrento Valley Coaster Station honestly. If your ever up for some late night trains, then Miramar has some cool freight stuff that'd be worth checking out. Edit: grammatical errors
What times and places are good to catch freights between SA and Solana Beach? I’ve had plenty of Surfliner and Coaster, but no luck with freight trains yet 😕
@@Trainspotter3033 usually between 6pm and 12 am are good times with 10pm to 12am being peaks. The freighters operate when the Coaster and Surfliner frequency are low since, well, freighters are slower and all. I live in the Miramar area and I hear the freighters nearly every night around those times around the Miramar industrial area. Regardless freighters are less common down in San Diego than anywhere else for some reason and that's most likely why you can't get them
@@tspryaviation I remember a couple of years ago I saw a freight ready to depart NBD down there @ San Diego, too bad it was around 10-11 pm and we had ran out of battery…
So I’m hoping this time we have more luck with those, thanks for the details!
7:22 Sorrento valley
I miss the steel bells on coaster cab cars it’s a shame that all cab cars have e-bells
Indeed. When I was there, 2302 was the last cab car in service with the old mechanical bell. I have some on board video I filmed that I was thinking about putting together as a video but haven't decided yet.
@@CoasterFan2105 maybe you should make a video on that
Very "noice" video, LIKE
Next amtk onboard long distance trip?
Hi Mike. What is the line in 2:02? This is a San Diego tram line?
It’s the new blue line extension
It is indeed the new Blue Line. I have a full video on the Blue Line extension that should be coming out in the not too distant future.
Can I use a clip from one of your videos
10:11 why is the wayside horn for
2:03 what is that line and train?
Is new trolley ext open?
Yes
12:53
Encinitas station
11:28 location?
I hope 2302 and 2301 don’t get new horns
Same
2301's horn is really messed up, though. If not replaced, it needs to be cleaned out.
It has a unique sound too it
@@easternroutemainlinevideos6823 I agree with you 100%
Sean
Hello welcome to my in future channel
Why do they have ads on so many cars?
The advertisers pay the transit agencies to put advertisement wraps on their cars or ad posters onboard trains. That’s just another way the transit agencies make money aside from ticket fares.
I think they're also there since Coaster is repainting most of their cars
@@Basinrails yeah the top of some of there cars need to be repaired.
4:27 what the location
That’s on California Street in San Diego in between the Palm St. and Laurel Street Crossings
6:57

@@Basinrails IMEAN why is the name "Poinsettia" there?!
@@namratajha9712 it serves the communities of Poinsettia and La Costa in Carlsbad
12:22 any idea of this location?
Near old town I think
That would be Santa Fe Street in San Diego
5:58 location?

11:49 Location?
I think it’s Oceanside
5:10 what the train
I forgot the name but it’s in poway
