- SAILING to new horizons
We are raising the anchor of our floating home at last and sailing to a new island. After two months sitting still on anchor while our captain, Rob has been busy in New Zealand helping Finn, Rob has finally returned to Thailand and the boat , but he's not alone, meet Andre, our patron, who has come to join us in Thailand. Andre is connecting us to star-link so we may never again have to relay on dodgy data uploads when island hopping or when we take the boat offshore.

BACK STORY
In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob rowed a tiny 7m (22 foot) plywood boat 2,500 miles from Tenerife (Canary Islands) to Barbados (Caribbean). It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race.
Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of.
The plan? To sail around the world.
Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz

I think one of the reasons I enjoy your videos so much is how much I admire the relationship between Rob and Rachel.
Thanks Robin
Ivan, don't deprive us of your golden locks. So much pleasure offered with so little effort.
I'm envious🙂
Great to see Finn looking and hopefully feeling a little better. All this has been a big shock to his system and lifestyle but I am sure he will prevail in the end. Fantastic to see Declan flying. He is one determined individual. Andre seems to fit in well and is very generous. New Zealand is a beautiful country and it was great to see Rob and Finn together. Another wonderful and entertaining vlog. You tell it as it really is. You have my admiration for that. Keep well and safe. James.
Thanks for your support James.
Another great episode!
What a fantastic edit. Loved that it was not chopped off like "here we are on the boat" and "now we are with declan"... It was all integrated into one story. Wonderful. Thank you. :)
You're most welcome. Rachel enjoys her work and we all enjoy watching what she produces week in and week out.
👍👏👏
Finn, You're a Winner in all aspects of the game. You'll do Very well in life w the disciplines you have. Great Job!!! Best Wishes
You are right. Finn has a bright future where ever life takes him
Yes!!
I loved how you included both Finn and Declan in this one. I always crack up to any reference to Declan. He is such a good sport. Being a middle child is never easy but he takes it all in stride. This was a great vlog. Covered all the emotions with moody music to match. Great job everyone👏
Yes I think some people don't quite get that about Declan. He's a classic understated good sport dude in many ways.
Indeed it is a great vlog and nice way including Finn (glad he is doing so well and yes, don't worry because everything happens for a reasson!) and Declan, the flying EMC. Great editting there!! (And Declan, woow, nice flight there!!) Enjoy!
And Rob, that incident with the passport...glad it came allright soon enough. I did recognize myself there😅
Last, big yay for Andre, such a good patreon. Giving not only sustain but helping in the ship (or trying too haha) and giving you gadgets for external contact. The Kiwi Boys must be very pleased!!
Thanks Andre, specially for showing us how those beautiful and funny drawings are made. The Cruissing & Artist Kiwis!! 😂👍
Safe journey, nice winds!
Thank you for the video Rachael! Is nice to see everyone up and around sailing and getting back to the routine.. Hehehe. My grandmother had a name for women like you. "She is a woman with hair on her chest." 😅 my Lord!!! Thanks again for a lovely video.
Tío Jaime
Thank you grandma! I'm hoping that means I am capable woman not an overly masculine one!
Awesome editing, looks like Finn is doing great, stay positive, you got this under control. Great to see Declan, love the flying, and Ivan, love that haircut. Getting to see all you Kiwis always makes my day just so much better. And Andre seems to be a great addition to the crew, how long will he stay. I had to share this, hope it helps, I just so enjoy every time you post another video, wish I could do more to help.
Thank you David. Andre was great crew. Thanks heaps for sharing
This episode made me really miss you guys! Life here has been busy! Not much time for the hobbies I love. Oh how I miss hanging out with you guys on the boat. Rob, that shirt can’t be that old! Im sure I sent it to Bali with Declan just the other day! Stay safe my friends.
I now realise you were out first patron on board. Not Andre and not Graeme. You and Fritz. Good memories. Must be close to mandrin season!! Mmmmm mandarins.
And we miss having you guys aboard too!
@@TheCruisingKiwis I hope we are friends too and not just patrons. We are a bit camera shy….
@lozzinozz8318 of course Fritz is!😅
Excellent 😊
What a great family you guys are working together to support each other through the highs and lows in life that all families go through.
Hats off to your parental skills and support.
Another exciting vblog
Entertainment at its finest.
Thank you for sharing.
Looking forward to many more.
Cheers from the Tron team 😊😊😊😊
Thanks for your support Rob!
Good job, Finn. Keep your head up. God is still on your side.😊
Thank you
Love your constant reality guys. I’m Aussie and hubby kiwi. Good to see snippets of the land of the long white cloud and FNQ. You’re so lucky to be doing what you’re doing. Keep up the good work. ❤
Thanks Lyndee. It was nice to see a bit of home.
Sending positive energy to Finn, & our cat. Safe travels ❤
all the best to Finn so sad to see the team dump him like that instead of supporting him you will be okay all the best to you all
Thank you Kerry. Finn is on the mend
Good Finn, keep your confidence, there's always a through and you'll look back on these challenges one day knowing they made you stronger and who you are. God bless all of you.
Thanks Derek. It's all part of life huh
Love how you are keeping Finn and Declan updates ncluded. Great shots from the plane, Declan.
Such a great episode! So many feelings, c’est la vie..
Finn you have so much to proud of and even more to look forward to. Rob and Rachel wish you two could parent the world. Amazing job, and thank you so much for sharing it all. ❤
👍👍👏👏👏
Thank you Jolene. We are proud of Finn's achievements. The important thing now is how he responds. So far he seems to be doing OK 👍
Ayyy! Tauranga local here too !
Love the Mount, am absolute treasure of a place. Been to the top lately?
@TheCruisingKiwis not in a while, walk around it for physio though!
Ivan’s hair looks way better than the mullet 🤭
Agreed
Loving the cat! Never thought of safety vest on cats! Keep on sailing!
The vest works fantastically at stopping her in her tracks, otherwise she's out on the bimini jumping in and out of the sail bag and generally getting in the way
Love watching your videos and the family dynamics. Thanks for sharing your life with us. I hope to meet you guys someday!
Maybe one day!
Another great video from you all....!
Thank God they don’t have smell-a-vision yet. I bet that anchor locker was on the nose 🤮 Hey Andre nice to meet you and thanks for the Starlink, now there’ll be no sufficient excuses why impromptu Patreon live streams aren’t happening😊 Did I hear the first one is going to be on Declan’s arrival back onboard?!? 😉
Alright alright alright. It's on.
Good idea! We need more live streaming!
Beautiful area to sail.
Difficult to leave
Great video. Great to see everyone is doing well, and well done Finn, you'll get there again! You're all awesome, looking forward to more!
Thanks Wiehan
Fab job of editing Rachel.
I cannot stop laughing from Miko falling with her life jacket, oh my...Happy to see you a bit reunited.I keep updated with the Kiwi boys channel...
Yeah we laughed a bit too hard at Mocha s demise😊😉
Tauranga I an excellent place for recovery Finn
Finn…keep rowing….rock on dude ….you’re great! Never forget that bud!
Wow boys are finding their own way…..cool….
Empty nesters on a sailboat…can’t wait to see the future…as always FANTASTIC videos…
Love it you guys❤
Luvs from Canada 🇨🇦
Roll on everyone 💥💥😎👍
I'm not ready to be an empty nester. Luckily Declan will be returning soon and Ivan has a couple of ten years left on the boat!
@@TheCruisingKiwis👍👍 luckily for you, Rachel, and for us, more great vlogs! 😂
Finn said he might return anytime, no?
Rob's the king of bad dad jokes :-) Cool to see ya's cruising again!
That lame joke actually has a element of truth in it. When we were land lubbers I once had to drive half way to Auckland (Rob met me half way) Rob had arrived at the airport only to discover he had left his passport at home.
@@TheCruisingKiwis I'd suspected there was a back story 🙂
Hello from Canada! I absolutely love your channel! Rachel, you're amongst the best editors I've watched...seriously. Rob, I'm very interested in purchasing your books and documentary 'Brother Number One.' I've left my contact info in an email to you.
Your boys are the truly blessed. I'm spreading the subscription word...you should be at 1M.
Thank you very much David. Very much appreciate your kind thoughts. I've forwarded your email to Finn in nz asking him to get these in the post once confirmed sent I'll get back to you.
Great video, again. Awesome to see Decĺan learning to fly. Hope you get some m9re good sailing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Frances
Good work family. Nice to catch up on what you are all up to. Great to hear Finn is doing well, Declan is living the dream and you guys are back sailing 👌
Cheers Pumpkin
know i'm asking weird questions when the flight started there was a red propeller but when it landed it was white did you take 2 flights or was the propeller changed on the way
I actually took three flights Auckland to Sydney, Sydney to Kuala Lumpur and KL to Phuket.
Love to see the subscriber numbers slowly going up ! You guys definitely deserve it. Tell Finn to keep his chin up.
Kerry from Texas
Thank you TO aka Kerry🙂
Mocha is always there to lend a paw!!
Claw
Haha either or..
12:50, It is so kool having a nosy cat around.
And here I thought I couldn’t get any more invested in the Kiwis story - and then the EMC goes and flies a plane. Now you’re covering all my hobbies. ✈️
Aha that episode you made may inspire him.
@1:28 - Ohope beach :) Instantly recognisable to me - I live there :) :)
Yeah love it. Almost a good as the heads. 😊😉
And welcome aboard, Andre! Good seeing you. I envy your trip with the Hamills and hope to see more of you.
Best regards..
Andre has been an excellent boat guest. I think our Kiwi/British mayhem may have been a challenge for his German organisation.
‘We all miss Declan at that point’ … still laughing! Andre fits right in. Also Go Finn!
Thanks Shane. Where is that boy when we need him!?
Finn seems to be doing better when he is able to gain some additional weight. I can understand the discipline and sacrifice he must undergo to compete in sports, but to me he seemed too underweight for his health. He seemed a lot more emotive and expressive, with his feelings coming back once he was able to eat a normal diet again. You need a certain amount of muscle mass on your body in order to perform normal biological functions. But, it all depends on how he feels and what he wants to do.
I hear you Tolya. We didn't like seeing Finn so skinny either. That may all be behind him now.
Still my favourite sailing channel. Looking forward to hearing more about Declan and learning to fly
We got it wrong Graeme. You were our first patron aboard. Indeed our first patron!
Remember, Declan is the middle child. He's expendable. I'm just kidding. Maybe one day you might make it to the Miami Boat Show.
@@TheCruisingKiwis I didn't pick up on that. Maybe I'll have to pay more attention. 😅
Great to see you back on the boat Rob
I don’t think I could sell with my mom😂
Your mother might enjoy it though🙂
Great Video as always. Such a pleasure to watch!
Thank you very much LLB
That's right Rob, you give heck to Finn for standing on a rottem beam and yet, in the wter, cleaning the anchor chain, Rachel is properly gered up and *************you***********?? Do you enjoy inviting disasters? Thank God you have a level headed German on board now (lol) maybe he and i can straighten you out? Ttfn Jim
Andre is level headed for sure. Our Kiwi mayhem and procrastination was almost too much for him
water and geared up
Another stunning anchorage, Green with envy! 🤢🤢,oh that's vomit 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Yay for Starlink!!!
I think the EMC could be a pilot?
It looks like he's interested for sure
You know... having the family spread out like that may not be the easiest (for parents especially) but it is also inevitable. Interestingly and in my opinion, it does raise the viewability of your channel well above many of other seafarers fare... The 'we lived on a boat for x years' is great for starters but becomes repetitive. Between reporting from Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, your sensibility and the lack of clinginess, it all makes for pleasant watching!
Thank you Hank, you're right it's inevitable. Next time they are all on board we're going to lock them in. Either that or go to sea to remote island for ever😊
@@TheCruisingKiwis 🤣😂🤣😂 Now that would kick things up a notch! lol. Here: "The Captive Kiwis"!!! I see 2 million followers in your future...
@5:28 - Whakatane - Wairaka. Also, I sail with Barry on Centaurus on occasion. @11:30 - you can't own land in Thailand I thought; unless you are a citizen.
Doh! You're going to have to remind me who Barry is.
I think westerners can only own 49% so yes locals only ultimately can buy
I’ll keep his name off here just to be ultra cautious.
IVAN IS A LIVING DOLL !!!!!!!
He's a bit of a dude I reckon
It's all been said before. Finn, mate life has a way of throwing a curve ball at you. How you handle that curve ball, determines where you go from here. To me, you look to be a pretty tough nut to crack, so away you go. Don't forget to write your list of priorities to getting to meeting your goals for full recovery. Then rewrite them. Again. Kia kaha. Good to see the rest of the crew together. Let us know how Declan gets on. Is it 50 hrs before he solos X country.? Again thank you for sharing. Take care.
Thank you Bryan. Declan has a long way to go before he makes 50 hrs. Not sure his bank balance will stretch that far. He may have to join the military to get it done.
@@TheCruisingKiwis Fair comment. Atb.
Thanks guys 😊
Cheers Trev
Watching now, algorithm... juicy burgers at fifty seconds... now I'm hungry!
Nom nom wish I had been there to taste them too. Rob
4:30... as far as I could make it. Yup, I sent y'all a msg on Facebook. I"ll watch more when I'm able to focus a little. Miss you guys. Love your adventure.Helps me not think of ... 'things' ...
Thanks Roger. I hope you're feeling better.
It's the Te Pahu Toothbrush Fence! Whoop whoop! Heath Robinson would be proud of your Starlink setup. Very sadly, mat the moment I'm trying to rehome my cat. It's a bit gut wrenching. As you once said Rachel, it's the price you pay for love!
Oh no sorry hear that Owen!
@@TheCruisingKiwis thank you. I'm actually off to Te Pahu tomorrow to pick up my new car. I've finally sold my Jeep. I'm going to meet a lovely couple in Matamata on the way over who would like to adopt her.
Has Finn thought about coming back to the boat for a while to get his health back on track.
Yes he's up for that, depending on what happens next.
Great editing. Great family. Great visitor 🇨🇦 ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
I am sure you have to be a citizen to buy land in Thailand.
There are ways to buy land as a foreigner, but don't worry we're not buying.
:)
👍
14:04 nice transitioning
Thank you. Very proud of Declan for getting out there and trying something new. Flying certainly seems to be his happy place.
Andre; Du musst Rod im Auge behalten. Er hat die Absicht, sich selbst zu verletzen
Andre is safe with us!
@@TheCruisingKiwis 🤔 Not so sure
@@lets_go_see_ did you send me a UA-cam link?
yup! concerning the Muyamar Slave factory where crypto scamming is being performed on a large scale!
Andre is a bit of a legend
Yeah incredibly generous of him. He's also helped Finn with his rowing and is now giving Ivan creative design work to do on line . Amazing guy.
