- Lumpy and Mrs Lumsden cruising away from their home city of Birmingham on the Birmingham Mainline.
The Galton cutting has everything. Famous architecture, tunnels and bridges, all created by Thomas Telford 200 years ago, but still very much enjoyed and appreciated today!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful part of the canals. I'm from the US and I'm just overwhelmed by the history there is, the men who dug all these canals by hand with a pick and shovel. The men legging it through the tunnels. The history makes me speechless. Thank you. Janet
@@mottmott5156 you share my amazement and wonder! Thanks for letting me know Janet! Happy new year to you.
A great vid Lumpy very interesting history about that area of Birmingham
@@peterfrench6891 thank you peter. Happy new year to you.
Great vlog as usual, informative and a little humorous. I grew up in Smethwick, went to Waterloo Rd primary school and Smethwick Hall senior School. The area was quite clean and presentable in the 50s 60s and 70s, sad to see its deteriorated to what its become now.
To be honest, many of the inner circle areas of the city could do with a refresh and I think that’s starting to happen. Renovation of the Chance glass works being a sign that we are starting to recognise and respect the need for tidying up of brownfield sites. Happy new year!
Nice one Lumpy. They sure did build things differently back then, just have a look at Tipton Library. All the best to you & Mrs L for 2025 and looking forward to seeing more of you both on the cut.
@@marsexpresschipper7915 happy new year to you!
I’ll have to check out that library!
great vlg on cut thank for great vlogs keep up the great vlogs on cut
Thank you! Will do!
Thak you for the cruise through. I enjoyed it very much. I also wondered why it was so wide, if there were double tow paths or steam boats of some sort, anyway, loved it, see you soon.
@@barbarataylor1535 yes very strange. I’m sure they had enough digging to do without making things any wider!!
Happy new year Barbara. X
I thought i saw Mrs L looking at campervans at the garage near Aston Marina last week.... all makes sense now... 🤔😉
@@PK_Blinder OMG!!! That’s where she went is it????
Happy new year 🥳 stay well n safe both of you your banter makes me laugh a lot 😂bring on the campervan lol, don’t you dear 😅
@@philipizzard2584 she needs none of your campervan support! Happy new year!
@ don’t worry she’s isnt getting it canals all the way
Aaaaah .......... Another Song for the "38 Tunnels Album !"" What a nice ending to it also !
I didn"t hear""Sittin" on the Dock of the Bay"" ,,,, when you were in Liverpool, or was that secretly recorded ??
My ears Pricked up when I heard the words ""Chance {Brothers} Glass" .... taken over by Pilkington, {from My home town St. Helens}, in 1945, untill Pilks. itself was taken over by the Nissan Glass Co. in 2006 ! My Father always claimed that Pilks. Head Office, was just an extension to his Greenhouse on his Allotment !
It's a pity that they don"t renovate the Gauging Stations ! A little Cafe stop would be Welcome !
I just Love these Vlogs ! I Know that your timing is OFF a BIT , but DO have a Great and Prosperous NEW YEAR !
Stay Singing !
Stu xx
@@Rovinman a very happy new year to you too sir!
I did a bit of Dock of the Bay when I was painting the hull about a year ago.
Interesting stuff on Chance glass. Thanks for that.
Oh I’d love to see a little gauging station coffee stop!
Have a Happy New Year and many jolly cruises in 2025
@@judithkitchingman4419 the same to you both. Hopefully see you out there in 2025. X
Wend said you were rude to Mrs L Paul 😉she said Santa wouldn’t have said that 😂
@@stevebell8552 she gives as good as she gets! If she’d wear a bloody microphone, you might hear it!!
Great video captain…you can’t die yet who do I get drunk with? Also you can wish Mrs L on anyone…don’t tell her!!! 🤣
@@stuartcox2785 there’s so much whisky to be drunk yet!!
It’ll take a while for my corpse to stop burning with all this fuel in my veins!!
Last time we went along there some kids had somehow attached a rope to the underside of Galton Bridge and were happily playing chicken with any on coming boats
@@beekeeperkev wow!!😮
@ like you both we enjoyed what parts of the BCN we have done, on that trip a boater going the other way reckoned we were mad and that the previous week someone had been hospitalised after he had a bridge coping stone pushed off as they went under, we had no issues at all, had more grief in Middlewhich
@ absolutely. There is the potential anywhere on the network for a freak incident to occur.
@ totally agree
After watching this we are curious to know what your job is!?
@@tanyabishop5647 I’m an actor. I work in the corporate world. Industry/management, medical, construction. Lots of Roleplay etc.

@@FISHUNDERTHEBRIDGE it is a proper get away from it all type of place down in the cut!
you are terrible. your wife gave you a hug and then you insult her! i realise you're joking, but still...
I’ll make sure I don’t edit out her playful insults of me!! You’ll then see it’s a two way banter fest!
Happy new year to you sir! What is your actual name? I can’t tell from your UA-cam title.
@@NarrowboatNatterings
ha ha, so you say! funny how you edit hers out all the time...?
it's jim btw, an old fart that lives in london.
i've been fascinated by narrowboats for some time but to be frank i don't think i could handle it.
i prefer to know that if i flush it's gone and i can turn on the tap or electric socket and it's all going to work.
@ thanks Jim.
Most of the time it’s because her mic isn’t on! You can’t hear it!! It’s a clever tactic of hers!
Yeah, I agree about the inconvenience of off grid living, hence we only have the boat as a leisure toy.
@@NarrowboatNatterings yeah i know, i was surprised when you said you still live in edgeley (hope i spelt it right this time) that doesn't come across, especially when you say how far behind you are in posting your videos. i guess it's because you're gainfully employed, the other narrow boaters i follow are retired or work from the boat.
as for how clever your mrs is, i assume you're doing the editing which would suggest you're being daft and she's even cleverer than you're saying...
it is really nice to see your interactions though.
@ Rugeley. Actually the village of Armitage just outside the town.
