Why would you not want to have something underneath the shaft supporting it , while you use a hammer & screwdriver banging on such an expensive part?
I believe the black stuff you chipped off the shaft was electrolysis because of two different metals, it happens especially if it is in salt water.

how to make sure that shaft sleeve would rotate with shaft? sleeve doesn't had any key or set screw?

Thanks to all the crew at State Supply, Fridley. This video and great customer service and I was able replace my bearings, coupling, etc. and get my house warm again....waiting for 5 days in zero degree weather was not an option.
