I own a metallic greenish/blueish 410 roadstar the serial says 86 but it has the 87 pointy headstock…I just need to get it re fretted. These things are awesome. Also the 87-88 peerless rg-less guitars are hidden gems…the trems are usually mij gotohs
I bout one sight unseen in ‘95. I bragged to my friends that I got a Korn guitar in hardcase for $149. When it arrived and I opened the case it was a seafoam green Roadstar. It was definitely not a Korn style Rg… but it turned out that it was soooo much better! A group of addicts wiped me out in 2011 and that guitar was in the mix. Never saw it again. Miss her.
Never owned any of these, but whenever I went to any music store back in the ‘80’s, I always picked up & played one of these. Awesome neck profiles on them.
My first "real guitar" was a 85 Ibanez Roadstar II with HH humbuckers in the purple haze finish with gold trim. I bought it new at that time and played the heck out if it for the next 5 or 6 years till I was finally able to start getting some other guitars. I still have it in it's original hard case. It's got some wear and tear on it and needs a few minor fixes which one day I'll get around to doing so I can enjoy it once again.
My first paycheck from my first job I bought an 80s Roadstar II RS440 in the seafoam green. I got it out of the back of the Elderly Instruments catalog in its original case for $149. What a guitar. Unfortunately it was stolen in 2011 up on Cape Cod. Miss that thing.
I have a 1986 Ibanez Roadstar II 140. I have a lot of Aria Pro II,s Westones a Westbury Standard and other Japanese guitars and basses. The Ibanez 140 is the easiest guitar to play. Got the Ibanez from a guy who bought it brand new but has not used in over 20 years Even had the original paperwork with it. Nice find Dana.
1:54 my Univox has a dent from a remote too… but it was from me dropping it on the guitar in 2004 while watching Some Kind of Monster on pay per view 😂
Back in the 80s there was a guitar shop here where I live that had this same Ibanez behind the counter forever. I was a high school kid so I couldn't afford it. Fast forward to 1995. I got a huge tax return and went to the same guitar shop and they had this ibanez on a stand on the floor and had a clearance tag on it. I got it for $400 with a case. This guitar shreds with the best of them. I wish Ibamez would go back to making guitars this good again and affordable.
I have a 1987 one, with the new headstock and logo, vintage style tremolo (no Floyd) and two Super 70 humbuckers with a black pickguard (the body is red). More like a strat body with a C-shaped neck, no wizard. I've put some Dimarzios in.
How are those Dimarzios compared to the super 70? I’m really happy with the single bridge super 70 humbucker in my ‘86 rs140. I don’t really want to mess with the original setup, but I always wonder if it could be even (way) better if I put in something new/better. Thanks!
@@319isthename I put a Super Distortion in the bridge and a PAF Pro in the neck. They have more note to note separation and definition when distorted than the Super 70s.
I have the black cherry wine burst....has the best neck I have ever played...I bought brand new and still have...I cannot find specs for the neck though...never found another guitar with this neck...would love to find any guitar with this neck profile
Love your channel. Strait forward no BS. I have a Epiphone G 310. I want to put a roller bridge. I found a Guyker roller bridge with great reviews. I noticed it's a bit taller than the stock one. I down tune to D. And use 11 to 54 strings Do I need to shim the neck to compensate? Your help or anyone's would be helpful.
This was the year everything changed. The introduction of the Ibanez Edge bridge. Previously the bridges on these were horrendous. The following year or roughly 85\86 we got the redesigned Roadstar Guitar, the RG5xx series. My friend had a Roadtstar II Series (RS230RD) like this but with 3 single coil pickups. The pickups sat in these strange plastic holders that in turn sat in the body, in individual single coil routes. It was prior to the edge bridge though and quite a terrible bulky body and neck lol. By comparison, my BC Rich Bich Platinum (UltraViolet) was nicer.
Man I’d love to have an RG410 , I’d prefer an 87 , I just think the new ( now classic ) Ibanez headstock looks better, but these 410s are cool I always wondered why Ibanez didn’t answer the 5150 craze with a single PU Strat, but they did . I just didn’t know about it until a few months ago. Where did your customer find that beauty at ? That’s like a guitar barn find for sure. I think those go for around 800 to 1000 in any shape but I could see the guy getting 1500 for it in that shape the condition and rarity of it. I’m not a bit surprised that you wanted to buy it. One of the coolest guitars you’ve had on here. A top mounted edge too I’m in love ! I don’t know if this one has it but you can see the knife edge from the side of the base plate and those are supposed to parallel to the body for it to function properly looks like you got it about right the edges have those wedge shaped base plate with the knife edge pressed through them and I’ve heard some people claim you can replace the knife edge on some of them. I’m an Ibanez guy and the 410 is on my bucket list right next to an original 565 .
ctially it's a early edge not a Floyd Ibanez was what ahead on the bridges gohto cwas the manuf of all Ibanezz teams from what I know. Teckoicki was another
This ax is from the pre-breakthrough era, right before the advent of the RG, JEM and Sabre. Once you had Vai and Satch aboard everyone and their uncle became an endorser, and these axes just flew off the racks. When it comes to locking trems I'm in the minority. I'll only use one if it's flush. Fulcrum edges never hold and tuning issues will happen if you have a floating bridge. If you set it up flush, EVH style, you don't have that issue. The only thing I'd change on this ax is the pickup. I'd pop in an X2N.
Awesome video, however, i wish you would not guess on the intonation. Intonation is very important, the guitar will never sound as it should if you don't do that. You are kind of half assing the process, not fair to the customer honestly.
WOW! These are great guitars. That one is a 1986 RG410 in Cherry Ice color. First year with the Edge/Floyd tremolo.

Our videos always seem to line up with each other, I just put out a video on Ibanez today! I love the Roadstars, they’re the original “RG”.

Man, that thing is in awesome shape. Good tips on the maintenance also. Cheers!

I have an 1984 RS520 in Forest Green. One of the coolest finds ever.
You never see them anymore.
I use the large eraser for the Floyd block too, works great 👍
I have a Roadstar/RG600, with the active EQ, hardtail, V profile neck.. its an amazing guitar to say the least. Rare one to find.
V profile? Nice!

That is the first year of the infamous Edge Pro. '86 is the best for the roadstars, I have 2.
The pepto bismo pink one with the older tremolo and straight pickup and a push pot coil tap was my first guitar.

Sweet Axe!! Love it too
Kurt! You rock, man!! 👍
Kool Ibanez Dane. I use a little Brasso Metal Cleaner to polish my frets. Cheers! Likd 51

Ok, I’m going to try your fret cleaning method. I’ve used all the others but this just looks very practical ! As well as the eraser trem shim !
Nice work. have a rs410 and took a similar approach.
Great vid...keep 'em coming! 👏 👍🙌
I have an 86' RG 410 that looks exactly like this one. The volume knob is also a coil splitter.

For the fret, 0000 steel wool is the best. Bought a rosin kit and its way less dirty but its essentially the same.
Wow! Suuuuper cool guitar. ❤️👍😃
Good golly miss Molly. That’s nice.
I can hear glam metal just looking at it. 😆
Lovely guitar
A one way floyd! I remember those!
Must have been the old “ you love your guitar more than you love me “……that used to happen to me in the 80’s with my Roadstar 2 😂
That looks like a case queen, a beautiful one
Awesome Guitar I have a pro line from 84 or 86 in the same color. My second guitar can’t believe I still have it. Thank you much for the videos zimm
The Letter in the serial # gives you the month (A = Jan, B = Feb etc.)
The first 2 numbers are the year
That is a pretty guitar and it sounds great!
I have this in white, I added a neck pickup recently!
Your magic sandpaper should hit the fret ends too, not just the middle of them. But they look a lot better
That is a great guitar. I wouldn’t mind owning it either
I have the black cherry wine burst....has the best neck I have ever played...I bought brand new and still have...I cannot find specs for the neck though...never found another guitar with this neck...would love to find any guitar with this neck profile
The reverse burst on this purple guitar, which I own, is just beautiful. Really neat neck.

I’m surprised he was able to get a floyd nut on there. I couldn’t put a floyd locking nut on mine because the truss rod is too close to the surface

I really like the AH10 Allan Holdsworth signature model of this guitar.
I have a similar one in black
That is a pretty guitar.🫦
I sold my RG 440 when I was broke. Regret it deeply!
That reminds me that Kramer needs to bring back their predecessor to the Baretta, the Pacer Special, but preferably without the rockinger trem😆

I have one in my arms rn
DNA! 😆
Sick, i bought one a couple days ago for 300$ CAD
Man I had this guitar is my very first guitar exactly like this one and push-pull volume pot unfortunately it was stolen

87 was huge for Ibanez
Eyeballing an intonation is not correctly setting up. You did not even string up to check. This is a bad move. Bad advise bro!
Girlfriends hate guitars
These guitars are super underrated. The pickup sucks, though. Duncan JB!
Girlfriend damage...we all have girlfriend damage in one form or another...

Guy needs a new girlfriend/

One small ding until ya dragged that screwdriver into the bass-side horn at 1:35.
