Thank you for doing these updates, dr John. I stopped watching the news a few months due to the conflicting reports and the lack of scientific backing and your channel has been ever so helpful. I don't dwell on what's going on, but I like to keep an eye on the situation and find out the latest medical research or medical advice. Your work is much appreciated!
Oh don’t worry, you can be self assured there is just as much misinformation happening on this channel too. So which ever you pick be careful. Always fact check.
@@nummer3sweden sure, dr John usually asks his viewers to fact check. He is doing his best to make sense out of this situation, I for one appreciate his work. But that's a good reminder, always fact check!
I’m 21 years old in the US. I live with my mom who is 65 and has some health concerns. I feel so privileged to even be able to quarantine to keep her safe. My cousin had to keep working as a bartender and she’s currently sick with COVID and symptomatic. She unknowingly spread it to her roommates. I don’t know how to fix it but as long as lawmakers push premature openings and don’t consider multi-generational housing, this will not improve. This will not just “go away like magic” ( Mr. Trump’s favorite line)
Joshua Garner Wearing masks helps - but EVERYONE has to co-operate because masks are SOURCE control of infection to be effective. In addition social distancing and sanitation has to be on top of masks. Layered protection.
I live in Sweden, went to the hospital for a checkup, the nurses dident wear any protective gear but then during the checkup they had serious facecoverings and everything. They started to complain that I havent gone to them in a while, but I reminded them that I am in a riskgroup and we almost have 6k deaths.
@Spri-Lion Blacklion Yes of course there are other thing than Corona, I never said what my country did is right or wrong. I just said that we have almost 6k covid confirmed deaths in a country of only around 9 million. Most of those are our elders and workers, who died because of the lack of care by my government and by the lack of care by the people.
Enabled: I saw my physician last week to follow up on an ER kidney stone. I explained that I had not been in because expected them to be either closed or overwhelmed! They changed their office schedule completely. He only sees one patient in his office at a time, not juggling and with people waiting turns. It makes sense, since he is retirement age anyway. Like Dr. Campbell, my M.D. still works out of dedication as an independent practitioner.
america, via trump, our dictator, mandated a private company collect data before our cdc sees it. i'd love to be in ze UK. sane in comparison to amerikkka.
gary rumble I agree. Well made and well deserved. And well controlled! I could never do this as I would get too angry with the scientists who cause our problems and who society mistakenly looks to to save us. God Help Us be spared from more of their horrors. There are exceptions of course as we plainly see here.
Ralph Wilmot I bethinks you make a mistake. The good doctor is sticking rigidly to facts and avoiding any extension of logic. He also completely avoids any politics which is not restricted to covid but runs rife across the field of medicine. There are so many facets to this illness and Dr John confines himself to the evidence which is fair enough. We cant take in the whole of the truth but each can study some aspects. One of my interests are the remedies that get us out of this mess and those that may only be of use to certain sections of the community. There are treatments that clearly work but are blocked and even sabotaged. Hydroxychloroquine is one scandal. I am not totally convinced it is the wonder drug some claim but it clearly works despite efforts to abandon it. The Marseille Hospital as I live in France has developed and improved this treatment to the extent that its none use has been described as the biggest scandal in medicine ever. This isn’t me talking but reporting what the worlds number one virologist is saying today. If you look at studies you can see the benefits even when people with a straight face tell you it doesn’t work. The Boulware study of this month claims no effect but another analysis of the data shows it does work to the extent of a 70 per cent and more effect. It is just a fault of the group doing the study that couldnt see the effect and had a failing of understanding that is breathtakingingly misplaced. If you expose a person to Covid they have a ten per cent chance of getting the illness. If you give HCQ then this cant prevent what has already happened. But the HCQ does in fact prevent those who havent yet got the illness and this is clear from proper analysis see Watanabe. In short we are again seeing the NEJM accepting research that while well done was completely wrongly analysed. If I can see this as an ordinary person then what is it saying about professional medical views on HCQ?
I am a very concerned mother of a child who suffers from a neuropathy as my husband is a senior school teacher and has to go back to school on the 1st September. I also am the sole carer for my 90 year old mum. If become ill (or die) we're in lot of trouble. What concerns me is that NHS staff have to wear PPE but teachers who could be on the front line too don't. At least if school was a phased day and everyone wore a mask we would stand a better chance, but no, it's just throw then all in and wait to see what happens. Somehow it all feels a bit like an experiment.........
In a proper experiment you would go step by step month by month. In this strange science-agnostic reality it's more like pretending nothing needs to be done until things get really bad and then completely locking down again.
Erg: We always started the Tuesday after Labor Day. It was explained to me once that colleges and universities that graduate their students in May do do deliberately to give their students first access to the job market--shrf if all the June school schedules. I work in a department store in the UK and the majority of customers do wear masks. But when it comes to staff not many. Staff also do not social distance. Our staff lifts have sign's saying only ONE person at a time yet they are usually full.
so far 3 people who are close to me have had the virus and are still having awful side affects months after. so this is very real. wearing a mask and social distancing can end the pandemic if enough people did it.
I was thinking about how fast people died of virus in 1918. Then a picture in my mind of all those people lying prone on the ventilator In Italy. New York. I thought I would prefer quick death. Glad we learned from that and have better treatment options but personally would not go on a ventilator. I am 70 with chronic lung disease. I was released from quarantine yesterday after testing positive on July 21 and having pneumonia. I am 70. I was sick at home. Got iv drug cocktail and sent home to be followed by a covid clinic very closely. I had to send in vitals pilse ox etc 3x day by phone. They also called 3x day. I went to the clinic 3 times. It is conducted in your car. I was asked 3 days in beginning to return to hospital but I refused due to 7 to 10 hour wait in ER. I felt I was too weak to do it but not sick enough to call 911. I realize looking back I probably was too sick and had much brain fog to be making that decision or driving my car. It seems like it was a dream. My sons did come as soon as the one in Hawaii could fly in and then both drove here from Jacksonville FL. Son from HI stayed for 10 days. They stayed in motel and talked to me from the yard several times per day. The day I was originally coming off quarantine I spiked fever 100.8 and was unable to come off for another week and took more antibiotics. Also received chest ct and more labs taking 10 hours of sitting in a freezing room in an office chair. You are not offered a glass of water. No food all day. The other day that I was there July 21 I had fever 102 pulse ox 90 and was coughing into a paper mask in a full waiting room. No attempt to quarantine me from all the others. No water. No food. Then when found with pneumonia he said probably covid pneumonia sent home at 3 in the morning. I had to go by taxi. The driver opened all the windows and blew it out. I was a nurse 40 years. It is very sad to see what medical care has come to. Not what I was taught. I feel they treat you poorly so you are very hesitant to come back. Which is exactly what happened. But I am very fortunate To get what I got compared to conditions in 3rd world. I did mostly recover. My pneumonia is improved but not gone. Took last antibiotic yesterday and all vitals were normal. I did ask on my first visit why I was in the middle of all in waiting room febrile and coughing. He said oh if we tested all of those 50% would be positive anyway. They have given up trying, don't care.
Glad to hear you are recovering after all that difficulty, weariness and concern. May God bless you and keep you safe until it's your time. Stay safe everyone. Brave to share your story.
I have noted specialists in my area don't want to see patients come in to their office where you need to be for things like echo testing and ekg. The virus is resulting in a major decrease in quality of care offered and delivered. In a way deaths from other untreated treatable conditions really are COVID 19 deaths.
"They treat you so poorly you're hesitant to come back. " Having enjoyed working in 5 star hotels, this statement resonates. They charge 5 star rates and treat you worse than motel 6! Every hospital stay should begin with tea and cucumber sandwiches and go on from there, "Thank you very much sir, we're so grateful and glad you chose our hospital, if there's anything more I can do for you do let me know." , " More ice for your drink? " " Yes, of course, I'll be right back ". Hospitality!!! . . , it's got the word H O S P I T A L right in it!! God( if you please, sir ) help us!
Actually, I don't think they "exhumed" them so much as they just drilled down to take "samples." The risk of actually exhuming the corpses (if that's what they're called after so many decades in the permafrost, I don't know) did not seem worth it IN CASE the virus might still be viable. AND- Which as it turned out, it was.

Do a little work. Go to individual states where the numbers are prepared by the state authorities. They have mostly begun to decline at the same time. You are assuming a conspiracy of those people with HHS? Including Democrat-controlled states like California. It is unfortunate that Dr. Campbell suggested this and hasn't done his homework either.
I live in Paris and I'm so ashamed of how people my age (20-35) are behaving. I chose to quarantine with my 75 y/o mother in order to take care of her, so I'm not seeing any of my friends. They go out, mingle as if nothing was going on, AND THEN GO VISIT THEIR PARENTS AND RELATIVES!!! My best friend even admitted he kisses his morbidly obese mother when he sees her, after partying like crazy. I'm so disappointed in everyone. I don't even miss my friends, this whole thing has showed me their real faces.
Few people seem to take it seriously until someone they know gets severely ill. My heart goes out to you and your mother and to all who are put at risk because of other people being selfish and ignorant.
Australia here. This is due to the politicians message at the beginning of the pandemic ‘the children are safe they will only get a mild illness and mostly none at all’. What happens when you tell a child everything is ok, they take reassurance literally and stop thinking about problem.

At my favourite Chinese takeaway - I've been loyal to for a decade - I could not get served. yesterday. They had a sign "Please no more than 2 customers at a time" - there were two blokes, no masks, leaning on counter talking with each other right over the gap in the perspex where money is passed and food is put through. A third person (with a mask) sitting down. So I wait outside for something to change. It does - the person who was sitting down shakes their head and leaves to wait outside alongside me (also with mask). Then another person (with a mask) walks in, right past us, practically shoves his way through the other two and makes a order. Us two outside looked astonished at each other - neither of us has placed an order! I gave up and walked home to cook something instead - I will never go back. Never.

the four countries report independently but they all report daily figures (public health england for england) -- they have been found out to be over reporting -- if people have had covid and recover but then die later of something else -- it was still being reported as a covid death...
I am sure total deaths and excess deaths are still being reported, and deaths 'with' Covid also collected at least. The change is that deaths 'by' Covid is now the primary statistic being used, which is quite common by other countries.
Why is the reporting of new infections and covid deaths bypassing the CDC and instead, being directed to an agency just set up by the tRump administration? The only viable possibility is they are manipulating the numbers to cover their incompetence.
Arthur Blundell Same thing in Sweden. If you have had a positive covid test and then get hit by a bus and die, it is counted as a covid death because they cross reference the death registry against the covid registry and if it is match then it becomes a covid death. It is probably mostly correct though and it is good that it captures covid-related deaths like heart failure, blood clots etc. If a person would likely not have gotten the blood clots without covid, it should be counted as a covid death. Sounds like the UK and Sweden may have the most correct/honest numbers.
Vietnam Cases 905 Deaths 20 22 new cases reported today, five of which were repatriated from Japan, and others from Da Nang city, Quang Nam And Quang Tri provinces.
Damn, I was really hoping we'd have at least one big country to emerge from this with 0 deaths. Still, I am glad you have good leadership. Do you know what is happening in poorer countries in your region, such as Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar? @@peterpetrov5831 people in Sweden don't live in the North or Central part of the country but instead their massively urbanised population live in the cities. Saying there's 16 people per square km is distorting thee situation.
He already did. A few months ago he did a video concluding that Sweden's policy was a bad mistake and did not work. In some of the interviews he has done since then he repeats that assertion. His view is based on the number of deaths in Sweden, which is proportionally a lot higher than Finland and Norway. It's pretty clear he hasn't moved from that. Now my view that it is more complicated than that, and ultimately we won't know if it was a wise strategy until well after the virus is behind us. Perhaps in 1 or 2 years.
My daughter went back to school yesterday, she’s 17 , we are in Milngavie, just 20 mins from Glasgow, she says there’s hand sanitizer on the way in and out, 3 people to a table for lunch, packed lunches only, nobody wears masks, not the teachers either, and one way system with distance in the corridors ...and the classes don’t seem smaller , I didn’t want her to go back but what can I do? Xxx
@keirfree senior It's useless with no masks. The whole "just keep your hands clean and don't worry about anything else" thing was a sham. The virus is spread through breathing and talking. A 17 year old isn't really at risk of being hospitalized but any older people in contact with her are.
But are windows and doors open? If not it is not safe. There was some Japanese modelling of droplet spread in a classroom with 10 people. Without ventilation the smallest droplets from just talking and breathing hung around for hours. They don't drop to the floor. Ventilation is key. Masks might help but putting them on and off adds risk as your hands are near your face. Touching the mask gets your droplets onto your hands so, if asympomatic you may still spread the virus. Plus masks be ome saturated over time, say a full school day, at which point your breath pushes droplets off the outside face anyway. Ventilation gets the viral load right down. Every parent needs to tell their childrens schools to keep windows and doors open. Stuff fire regs for now - you need to prioritise and asses which risk is more likely. Besides, doors can easily be closed if the alarm goes off.

Another case of American exceptionalism: be stupid, then "double-down" on your initial stupidity. The callous plan could be one to create chaos and then take advantage of it. I wouldn't be surprised to find that some of the more unsavory minions in the administration have their own Wannsee plan.
@@williamswenson5315 I agree that, as Americans of a certain minimum age, we have been brought up to believe we are exceptional. It is shameful because the nationalistic perception hides a few of Anerica's _real_ exceptional qualities. Thankfully, slowly but surely, this exceptionalism is being replaced in curriculum with more accurate information. It will take time, and certain areas of the country are, let's say, _maturing,_ faster than others. I will also agree, to an extent, that "stupidity" runs rampant in my country. However, I do believe it is more nuanced than that. I wouldn't call it stupidity, to be honest. I think the more appropriate term is ignorant. Now let's face facts, some of these people do not care about facts. They embrace their ignorance - I think it's fair to call those people stupid. But, we have a bigger problem in this country... an epidemic that seems to affect the older people disproportionately, but can be found in all genders, races, socioeconomic statuses, etc. That epidemic is science-itis and the dreaded ITC (Inability to Think Critically). These diseases have propagated throughout society in majority by means of one specific vehicle - religion. My country has taken whatever good could supposedly come from religion, and turned it into a politically charged mess. It affects our education standards, our political rhetoric, our financial policy, etc. There is hope, however. Younger generations seem to be showing higher levels of herd immunity to these diseases. I only hope we can find cures before it's too late.
@@AGDinCA I enjoyed your intelligently written and thoughtful reply. All too often, UA-cam is merely a repository for those who would vent their spleens without aforethought or restraint. You have expounded your observations along a line which is entirely congruent with my own. Your identifying the root of the problem as a lack of critical thinking is correct in all of its particulars. Unfortunately, the process of remediation would involve those afflicted to first, recognize the need for self-reflection and second, to consider alternate arguments that will seem foreign to all they have ever known. We see this evidenced in the constant war of words between belief and reason. The first, is an all-exclusive surety, that something is right despite having no factual or logical underpinnings. The second, is testable and logical. It can be revised as new facts present themselves. Belief systems do not readily allow this. Your country, by the way, is also my country. I reside in the Hudson Valley of New York State and while we are certainly not immune to entrenched ignorance, we seem to suffer less from it than some others. I would point out, that the young are being taught by those who came to their maturity in a more knowledgeable and thoughtful era. This has a positive and cumulative effect and that is what I think you are seeing in the younger generation. Regrettably, too many of our "leaders" are in their sixties and seventies and even their eighties and were formed in an entirely different crucible. One that too often predates the lessons of the Civil Rights movement and equality for women. You particularly see it in racist policies coded to cover their true intent and identity. The Cold War mindset is of a similar vintage with a similar outcome on current events. The return and rise of ardent nationalism in too many places in the world, a world with diminishing resources and nearly eight billion people and a world that teeters on the brink of unacknowledged catastrophe leaves me with little hope. Dont worry. Statistically, you have more chance of a major car crash on the way to school than losing anyone through C-19. Its weird how our attitude to risk has gone crazy through all of this.
If they are too lethal, they will not spread. See previous Corona viruses. if they are not so very lethal, they could spread fast. Look at flu and measles. And yes, seasonal flu can be as lethal as Covid-19. So that is kind of "self regulating". But if it would happen, yes it would be a real problem. I don't know about all US states, the number of tests in SC is significantly less than it was a month ago, but the proportion testing positive is still 15% - 20%.

...Dr John, You’ve been giving us recent examples of countries with high incidence of COVID 19 in younger adult age groups. In this pandemic our society appears to have distinct groups, some people circulating a lot and some only occasionally. So far, the generally high risk groups have been sheltering successfully with some exceptions. (such as residents in old people’s homes). Within the socialising younger adult group a more localised ‘herd immunity’ of sorts builds up within that group, & their infection rate + transfer risks to other groups will peak and then decrease. As we try to open schools again with new groups becoming involved, we are also attempting to reduce ‘trade-offs’ e.g. closures in our hospitality sector & transport. It is important that we attempt to find a way of continuously sterilising high risk areas such as toilets & in any indoor confined or crowded areas. Newly developed FarUV (Narrow spectrum 207-222nm) lights should be installed to do this, as UNLIKE ALL other UVC, it is safe for skin and eye exposure and can remain continuously active with people around. It is highly effective in neutralising all viruses and bacteria. (Aerosol in seconds and hard surfaces in minutes). Schools and hospitals have already started using this system in Japan and mass production from FarUV.com & Sterilray.com in the US start later this month. I understand that the FDA has given an emergency approval for FarUV use for SARS-CoV2 treatment during Covid19 pandemic. It is therefore an important NPI which is dependent on service providers to install and use, rather than with adoption by the general public. As with universal mask wearing a very high adoption rates is needed to be optimally effective. Full adoption is therefore possible until the pandemic ceases. Units will remain present and effective to turn on and mitigate the spread of any and all future pandemics. Bacterial or viral in a cost effective way. Dr. JHM.
John an observation. Where is the outbreak of Covid after all the riots and marches. This should have happened. No masks and no social distancing. Secondly why is thwvdeath rate going down?. Apparently infection rates are going up but there is more testing so the data is flawed. Why are there no reports of China any more? Why were death certificates being altered? I have first hand knowledge. The official narrative does not make sense and the data with it. If you are sharp of mind you will have noticed the reporting was died after testing positive this is not the same as cause of death or died from. This has now switched to new cases. Something is not right here and you don't need to be a genius to have serious questions over the narrative and the data. Even the source bat soup is so nonsensical when the nearest bat caves are over 400 miles away. There also has not been one single debate on this anywhere. And yet we have shut down the world and enforced masking. In years gone by there would be a debate.
'quarantine camps'? Just stop with the bullshit. They're kept in hotels/motels and the police and some army involvement became necessary after multiple break outs of quarantine. This was by people who wanted to go buy booze at the local liqueur store or visit family. One asshole made his way to a local supermarket and took selfies. And this was after five weeks of a national lock-down so there was zero public patience for these people.
I think we need to be a bit cautious when talking about 'increasing cases' John. As the number of 'cases' ie positive tests are very dependent on the number of tests being done. Increased testing will always find more cases even if there's no infections due to the false positives.
And even if that won't the case (which it was more of with the early tests), more tests will find those cases that was not counted earlier, because it looked like flu or because they wasn't hospitalised, and thus not tested. This is the reason I strongly dislike using identified cases as some sort of metric here. It is way to insecurity in the data. Deaths(preferable total deaths, but as long as it is the same method it is ok to identify trends) or ICU patients are way more accurate over time. Testing are good, but not for seeing trends, because of differences in who are tested when and why. Should not be too hard to figure out.
@@AndersJackson yeah, that's pretty broadly my point really Anders . Deaths and hospitalisations are much better numbers to look at than positive tests , although they have the unfortunate property of lagging infections . As you say positive test results are too driven by who when where the testing is being done . The one good thing is they can identify infections in the under 50s , who are unlikely to be hospitalised.
It's really simple to find out what's really going on. Look at the case numbers _and_ at the positive rate. If the case numbers are going up _and_ the positive rate is going up, testing does not keep up with the spread of the epidemic, and you are undercounting. If the positive rate is going down, testing is catching up with the spread ... which is a good thing: you're now finding cases you should have found in the first place. "False positives" aren't a problem with PCR tests, at least not with the numbers of tests currently done.
@@KlausJLinke yeah, i think i see what you're saying there Klaus. I disagree that the false positives aren't a problem though . The lower the rate of infection relative to the number of tests the more significant they are . Especially where the testing isn't being done in a representative way . In the uk there were more tests done in Leicester to the week ending 24th july than in the rest of England put together. Unsurprisingly they found a larger number of people who tested positive.
@@philhardy18 There were more positive tests in Leicester because more people were infected. If the positive rate is above 1%, false positives are statistically insignificant.
I'm in New Zealand and had friends try to get tested as the hole family came down with flu like symptoms even tho they have a vaccine every year. They went to the doctors and asked for a test. The doctor told them there is no covid in NZ so its not covid. They had never felt so bad whatever they had. So i'm wondering if it is because some doctors had the head in the sand approach. that has allowed this to happen. (they were sick about 2 weeks ago).
Less cases in my county of South Carolina - local news reported this morning that 62% less test are being administered now than at the same time in July. Of course we have less cases reported!!
It could be a combination of both having fewer cases as such, and having fewer tests as such, couldn't it? What does the curve for ICU cases look like? That could be a telltale sign for how it is goin6, how far "into the peak" you are, isn't it so?
Here in our area you aren't allowed a test with out exhibiting at least 3 of the symptoms as well as the cost can be scarey depending where you go. That said our area numbers are still climbing which leads to a limited testing will give false numbers due to the limiting of tests.
@@angelrock8254 I believe it was something similar in "my" area earlier this spring when numbers were climbing. Now it's different, and I actually think you nowadays may get a free test. And that you on the Sweden case graph actually can see on the very shape of the graph just about when it happened - tests were made available - and the cases shot up drastically when hoards of people wanted to get tested, the app for booking a test crashed, and so on. Maybe this was in June or thereabouts.
testing is down 13% from the peak day (7 day average) while test positivity rate is also down (from 7.8% to 7.4%). the inference is actual cases are down, which is leading to lower test demand. the corollary is parts of the US are right around herd-immunity levels
I am concerned about the handling of cases in schools. My children’s school will only notify families in the class where there is a confirmed Covid case. Meaning that if an 8th grader who shares bathrooms and hallways with my 7th grader gets infected, we will never know. Also- they will only be notified once given confirmed results. Results can take several days to weeks. So, what happens to all those who had been exposed without knowing for that time period?! I was hoping to start online and transition back to campus but this is very worrisome.
I am waiting for your expert analysis on those who recovered their percentage what are or may their difficulties how they maintain themselves what precautions they've to observe????
Unpleasant situation to hear about at the Manchester wholesalers. But it does raise the question, if one those arguers did turn out to be infected would your emailer show up on any contact app? I think (I could be wrong) a 'contact' has be at least 15 minutes long. If they were there for less than a quarter of an hour it seems the authorities wouldn't think them worth tracing.
No one seems to care about leaving/taking details anyway. I've been to several pubs, restaurants, etc and only a handful have made any attempt to take details.
Wish people would bloody walk. People drive everywhere. Probably so slow as their arms areso fatthey don't have roomto steer - all because they never bloody walk. Get out of your cars people - they're killing you and me.
If anyone does not respect my social distancing space I will always turn round and tell them.... most people will respect that and back off... you have to verbally express your discomfort.... standing there silent makes you a victim
That would get tiring for me, because it would be ALL THE TIME. I just say screw it and wear ICU level PPE. I have a full face respirator and P100 filters. They say those should be reserved for workers at high risk but if people around me are going to be idiots I may as well compensate with PPE.
In 1918 a lot of young men were prisoners and barely survived with the kind of food they were getting. My grandpa was released in August 1918. In the last few months of captivity they had decent food from the Red Cross. The German kids who lived in the vicinity of the camp were begging for their biscuits. When they were moving prisoners from one camp to another they made sure they were hungry, cos that made them lethargic.

I think Sturgis will definitely spread. Being from Minnesota we never saw increases after George Floyd protests and I believe that is because there wasn't a lot of drinking and people were wearing gas masks because of tear gas. Sturgis is a party. Drinking, carousing, and other things. They will seed the country.
@@practicallyheidi8505 Yes, Sturgis is like a massive party, with virtually nobody taking the necessary precautions. Under normal circumstances, this sort of activity would be just fine. Under normal conditions nobody would have any cause for concern. But these are not normal conditions, and, given the large sample size, combined with the large distances over which these people have travelled, there may be many who are infected. just 1% would equal 2,500 infected people, who are, of course, not wearing masks. They wouldn't even know that they were infected, prior to developing symptoms. And that doesn't include those who never develop symptoms.
@@practicallyheidi8505 Something that is of concern is that the number of new cases identified in the US is just the number of new cases that have actually been identified...that number could be just the tip of the iceberg. It has been made very clear that many people are asymptomatic carriers, which is how the virus could get around the world so easily.
@@angeldaisy5248 Unfortunately, that might prove too difficult. They would probably assume that anyone trying to track them was employed by the Chinese government (because communist conspiracy, I'd guess). I've had plenty of virus infections in my time, so I don't understand why people people should believe that this virus is a conspiracy of some kind. I contracted glandular fever at the age of 29, and it took years to get that out of my system completely. I'm 25 miles north of central London, and I don't understand the cultural urge to ignore a potential health risk for the sake of freedom. Viruses don't give a damn about your civil rights, so what they are saying sounds a lot like paranoia.
I’ve said this many times before… I work at a truckstop in Utah USA. Many bikers on the way to Sturgis stopped in and mocked people wearing masks at our establishment. Five days later, I quit that job and now have a job at a little shop deeper in town that has a fraction of the traffic. Hopefully I’ll be safer there. I’m so lucky to have N 95 mask to protect me.

My son starts kindergarten this year and I am worried about it. I want him in school, but masks aren't mandatory where I am and the cohort size is 75! WTH?! Kids will not be allowed to mingle with any group bigger than 75 kids. This is absurd. They should be with their classmates only and exclusively. I'll be shocked if we don't have a massive outbreak by September 15th (class starts on the 8th).
South Efrikan there will be lots of people from out of town drinking at bars, standing around talking about their bikes, eating together at local cafés, and then going back home to their families with whatever bugs they picked up. Anybody who thinks going to Sturgis this year is a good idea is incredibly naïve. I mean, I’ll cross my fingers, but I’m not at all optimistic.
Kevin Wilt Are you making an argument to stop taking precautions? i’m going to have to disagree. Confirmed cases in the U.S. only amount to 1.6% of the population as of today’s numbers. Even if the number of actual cases is 5-10x higher than the number of confirmed cases, it still means that 84-92% of the U.S. population has yet to be exposed to the virus and is still vulnerable to infection.
Kevin Wilt I’m also nowhere near Minnesota and I’m not saying that the rally is going to be the catalyst for the 2nd wave, but it is going to have a major impact on some who go and those contacts that they wouldn’t have otherwise passed the virus to. I don’t think we all need to live in mortal fear, but maybe lay off the unnecessary mass gatherings for awhile. Sturgis happens every year. For the vast majority of people, skipping it this year will not mean missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Only 1/3 of usual number are going to Sturgis, those with common sense are staying home. The ones who do go are a hard core Hells Angels type who do not associate with non bikers so the risk is still there but much lower than the number suggests. They do not usually stay at hotels or eat in regular cafes , camp under the stars and use truck stops which are already high risk. Also many are high or drunk and do not wear helmets so about 100 will die on the highway before they get home. Without this event the town of Sturgis would no longer exist it is their main source of income for the year.
As always you are doing a great job, Thank you. What do you think are the chances we will find that we are actually in the midst of the second wave and the first wave went unrecognised?
What about the rave /beach party at Greatstone Kent thousands attended with no physical distancing at all.The vast majority that attended belonged to a higher risk group for sars cov-2!.
Why is he not expressing healthy skepticism about the US stats magically going down as soon as a different gov't department started giving out numbers? What happened to him comparing numbers to Johns Hopkins and New York Times data?
Johns Hopkins and the NY Times data are no better, for the same reasons as I mention in my comment earlier in this video. Also, both have financial conflicts of interest.

We're pretty devastated in NZ but the government are acting fast to track, trace and contain. They aren't mucking around. But we're all on eggshells 😬😬 Our borders are definitely the weakest link and the government absolutely needs to up the ante on testing border and quarantine staff etc. They are working pretty tirelessly with tracing. And our opposition political party are taking full advantage of this, as expected 🙄🙄🙄
Yes they absolutely need to up the ante. We are a small country in the middle of the ocean. The first devastating lockdown could of been avoided altogether. So much suffering caused by poverty and job loss now. And it's just the beginning. Mental illness and anxiety is becoming a problem that increases as time goes on, and they push all the fear and drama on government owned news that only allows praise of the PM. The borders could of been closed in February. It took the current government 2 months to shut borders and that is a fact. The current government has taken full advantage of this pandemic and a growing number of citizens can clearly see it.
You should be delighted in the way your government has handled this. Look at the rest of the world. I'm in the UK and must say it's like Billy Smarts Circus . Diabolical in every way. As soon as soon as schools open kaboom. We have had no advise as yet what to do if your child develops symptoms of anyway shape or form. Do we all get tested ? Do we all isolate? Well find out after the event .Our Government need to get their act into gear as previously they've been diabolical in their guidance
No one can get this perfectly right, because there's still so much that is unknown, however the quick action and logical science-based decisions taken by the current Government and Ministry officials have undoubtedly saved many lives. I think we have been so lucky to have leaders who want to do the right thing. Good clear effective communication.
At what point do you admit that taking covid so seriously that is just self masochism. Even if the virus kills 1% of the population (mostly elderly) it would have much less negitiive impact then the policies implemented in my city.
Theory 3: The family received a parcel from abroad that was shipped so fast that it reached them in under 72 hours. The virus would still be alive and well as they opened the package there at home.
UNICEF is urging schools - whether open or helping students through remote learning - to provide students with holistic support. Schools should provide children with vital information on handwashing and other measures to protect themselves and their families; facilitate mental health support; and help to prevent stigma and discrimination by encouraging students to be kind to each other and avoid stereotypes when talking about the virus.
"Schools should provide children with vital information on handwashing" If I was a parent, which I am not, I'm pretty sure I'd teach my own children hand washing, how to tie their own shoe laces, and how to ride a bike. Among other things.

Graphs showing number of new cases per day without also showing the number of tests administered and number of hospitalisations doesn’t really tell the whole story. Is that data available?
Great channel Dr John, I have been following you for many months. I would like to, however, raise a question. Is comparing the number of daily cases in March/April not completely different from comparing the number of daily cases now? If you test a LOT more, you will find more cases. How about comparing the number of positive cases divided by the number of tests each day and using that percentage to see how the rate changes? Also, using daily hospital admissions and ITU beds used together with daily deaths (especially using the new UK data model) must surely be a much better metric to assess the severity of the pandemic? Current all-cause death rates in Europe have been for several weeks now very close to the seasonal average.

Logic genius Another troll.....
By Grace go on a preventative course of HCQ and zinc
By Grace yes I realise no one will look out for you except yourself. The drive to get the economy back overrides all decisions

It is conducted in your car. I was asked 3 days in beginning to return to hospital but I refused due to 7 to 10 hour wait in ER. I felt I was too weak to do it but not sick enough to call 911.

Why can’t the UK just give the number of deaths per day like other countries?
the four countries report independently but they all report daily figures (public health england for england) -- they have been found out to be over reporting -- if people have had covid and recover but then die later of something else -- it was still being reported as a covid death...
The only viable possibility is they are manipulating the numbers to cover their incompetence.
because the number's are so low.
Sounds like the UK and Sweden may have the most correct/honest numbers.

keirfree senior think I’d rather be seen to be that than to be seen as not caring xxx
@keirfree senior It's useless with no masks. The whole "just keep your hands clean and don't worry about anything else" thing was a sham. The virus is spread through breathing and talking.
A 17 year old isn't really at risk of being hospitalized but any older people in contact with her are.
Home lessons on the Internet should be the way forward for the immediate time. Schools are a virus fest

The return and rise of ardent nationalism in too many places in the world, a world with diminishing resources and nearly eight billion people and a world that teeters on the brink of unacknowledged catastrophe leaves me with little hope. ...Dr John,
You’ve been giving us recent examples of countries with high incidence of COVID 19 in younger adult age groups.

Less cases in my county of South Carolina - local news reported this morning that 62% less test are being administered now than at the same time in July. Of course we have less cases reported!!

Here in our area you aren't allowed a test with out exhibiting at least 3 of the symptoms as well as the cost can be scarey depending where you go. That said our area numbers are still climbing which leads to a limited testing will give false numbers due to the limiting of tests.

US has drastically cut testing...therefore lower cases

That is good news. Testing was offered on a whim. Never saw that before. Slows down the whole system
Well then check the death and hospitalization rates, most new cases are asymptomatic.
Hospitalizations and icu numbers are down in Nueces County (Texas per capita County hotspot). Hospitalization numbers are the important numbers.
Yes yes like from Hitchhikers guide to the Universe -Glasses which go opaque IN CASES OF FEAR !
Sturgis this year is going to be a super-spreader event. No doubt in my mind about it at all.
See Marti gras...
They'll just spread it to their families for the sake of a piss up. Oh too late then. Shame on them. Only when it hits hard will they realise
Yet, there hasn’t been a huge spike in deaths nor hospital additions
Thank you so much Dr C , your work is very much appreciated. ☮️
Why is he not expressing healthy skepticism about the US stats magically going down as soon as a different gov't department started giving out numbers? What happened to him comparing numbers to Johns Hopkins and New York Times data?
You have no idea which numbers are/were accurate....
He shows 'healthy skepticism' to someone who is British, I would say.
Maybe he’s lying
Johns Hopkins and the NY Times data are no better, for the same reasons as I mention in my comment earlier in this video. Also, both have financial conflicts of interest.
Why the emphasis on new case numbers? I thought the concern was hospitalizations and deaths......
Rising spread
3:00 lesson: don't eat food. Oddly, the authorities have been saying that food is perfectly safe while at the same time saying to thoroughly your hands after touching anything. Can't be both. Food safe, all other objects dangerous.
I think its the food packaging
I have been spraying all my produce with food grade hydrogen peroxide and letting it sit while I prepare the rest of the meal. When we get home, we wipe down or remove all the packaging.
@@JennySimon206 I've been washing off refrigerated produce, wiping down outside wrapping of frozen goods with Clorox wipes (and since they're cooked, treat like raw chicken), anything not needing refrigeration goes into storage for three days before we touch it.
Cooking kills viruses. Food safety 101. Rare = dangerous. Well done = safe. Heating above 65C does coronaviruses in.
Salads are dangerous year round.
@@allangibson8494 FYI, the French boiled COVID for 15 minutes and some strains of the virus were still viable and could cause an outbreak! That makes it an extremophile? www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3079831/coronavirus-can-survive-long-exposure-high-temperature-threat
Scary for me because COVID can also hide in the nervous system evading testing. A guy got meningitis and kept testing negative until they did a spinal tap. Then there is the fact it can survive for at least 3 days on surfaces.
Knowing these things, I think that perhaps NASA and Space X sending astronauts to space station during the outbreak is highly risky and plain stupid. Outside the protective cocoon of our atmosphere cosmic rays cause DNA to mutate so much that identical twins (one went to space) are no longer genetically identical!
It's like the beginning of the worse sci-fi horror story I could think of! What if COVID hitched a ride in an astronaut's nerve ganglia or just went on a surface? What the hell are we supposed to do if an astronaut gets sick up there? We are going to bring them back to Earth with a mutated strain? By the way, we just brought those astronauts back a week or so ago.
Please talk about why the death rate from COVID in the UK is now so low as to be inconsequential anymore.
@@KC004NZ yes you have good leaders over there in NZ. So much for our shambles
Great information Dr Campbell, interesting looking at NZ.

16:05 . I would have just dumped my stuff near the checkout and left the store.
Whereas it sounds like they just bought it anyway and no doubt put it straight on their shelves for customers to handle.
At what point do you admit that taking covid so seriously that is just self masochism. Even if the virus kills 1% of the population (mostly elderly) it would have much less negitiive impact then the policies implemented in my city.
Thank you as always for these valuable updates! Thank you!
Theory 3:
The family received a parcel from abroad that was shipped so fast that it reached them in under 72 hours. The virus would still be alive and well as they opened the package there at home.
Theory 4
It's endemic in local animals - domestic cats?
UNICEF is urging schools - whether open or helping students through remote learning - to provide students with holistic support. Schools should provide children with vital information on handwashing and other measures to protect themselves and their families; facilitate mental health support; and help to prevent stigma and discrimination by encouraging students to be kind to each other and avoid stereotypes when talking about the virus.
"Schools should provide children with vital information on handwashing" If I was a parent, which I am not, I'm pretty sure I'd teach my own children hand washing, how to tie their own shoe laces, and how to ride a bike. Among other things.
Thanks for this!

The numbers in the US aren’t accurate IMO when you consider that states that have had higher positive cases have significantly slowed down testing. The cases aren’t dropping-just the reporting of them.
Exactly. Testing reduced by 53% while new cases being found fell by 10%.

Graphs showing number of new cases per day without also showing the number of tests administered and number of hospitalisations doesn’t really tell the whole story. Is that data available?
Another theory: could the virus have entered NZ via a parcel?
LOL
My own theory is that the virus did enter via parcel, a parcel with wings & turbo fan engines, built by boeing or airbus.
John, if at all possible, can you interview Jacinda Ardern. If she can go on the Stephen Colbert show she can be on the Dr. John Campbell show.
Dr John, have you any thoughts on the spike of deaths for ages 15-44 only affecting England, according to Euromomo.
