You’re so brave lol my bleached hair has grown out the exact same way but I’m too afraid to dye it myself but also don’t wanna spend $$$ to get it done professionally when we are technically still in quarantine :(((

Just get someone’s help you do the back. I’m doing the same since my hairstylist got Covid. I fucked up last night by trying to do it on my own. But tomorrow I’m having my bf do the back on the spots I missed.

Hi Katie, this is exactly what I needed to see. My roots have over grown several inches. Maybe close to 2 inches. So you're video is very informative. I've been dying my hair by myself at home too so every time I'm able to dye it so evenly, not only do I surprise myself but other ppl think I went to the salon. You did a great job! I've been bleaching my roots at home for over 7 years now, and I never fail to miss a couple of spots lololol. I do recommend 30 vol as well! I'm Korean, and it works totally fine. Usually I have to go over the previous roots when I do my roots again, but it's so worth it not to have to stress as much if it touches the already-bleached hair. I have an olaplex traveling kit I can use but it still doesn't feel worth it. This is probably more for when your roots are only about half an inch to an inch long haha. You did a perfect job though and if 40 vol has been working for you, then there's no problem with it :P plus, it's your choice!
Korean hair is the strongest hair
40vol is generally not a good idea to do at home if you're not a professional. It can literally melt the hair off. Hairstylist recommend low and slow as in use the lowest volume you can get away with and do it twice if needed.

hello! i share this account with my husband, but im native american and latino, and I've only ever used 20 volume developer! Asian hair is thicker, so it's less likely to fall apart! please start off with a lower volume developer and take your time by going over with multiple sessions if the brown doesn't lift. i wish everyone well and for nice stylish hair lol ♡♡♡

Definitely shocked she didn’t mention the 40 vol hurting her scalp after a few bleachings. So hopefully that means it didn’t! It’s not recommended to go over 20 vol on the scalp area. There is a higher chance of getting chemical burns and that is sooo not fun. Still loved the way it turned out,

How do you bleach Asian roots with 20 volume? Like, if the rest of your hair is platinum, wouldn’t 20 be too weak for the roots to hit the right shade?

yess!! i have to do my hair again but it’s the root so that was such a good solution and cheap too
If you want to get yellow or orange out i highly highly recommend purple/blue hair masks rather than shampoo. Bc shampoo is very drying and bleached hair needs all the moisture. Also blue fixes orange and purple fixes yellow and be realistic, T18 or blue shampoo isn't gonna make your hair platinum.

Did you say that the toner time was like almost 2.5 hrs?? Is that including the time u put it in also?? Like start from finish or starting time after you put it on? And let it set ?

Did you bleach 3 times in a row?? Ik this is not recommended but my ends have been bleached twice (several months apart) to get light and im worried about getting yellow roots if i only bleach once but also dont want to damage it

Hi! I have natural dark hair and i wanted to retouch my roots. Can i use 30 volume developer for both bleaching or toning? Or it must be 20 for the toning?
Developer will reopen the cuticles of the hair for toning, in order for it to seep in. It will work, but it may be uneven if it’s not worked in super quickly all over and there would be more damage from 30.
i dyed my hair blond (left it on 30 mins) and i loveee the color! but i didn’t touch my roots at all because i was scared of it turning uneven. how long should i leave the bleaxch on my roots? should i do a thick layer ??
you should probably do at least two rounds to get the desired color! try it once and if it's not light enough, you can do it again :)
did you use the same 40 volume developer for 3 rounds of bleaching? im bleaching my hair atm and its orange and yellow 😞
yes i did! but if your hair is pretty damage i recommend 30 volume!
my roots are SO grown out but luckily i don’t have to make it look very good because i’m putting colour over it 😅

how big is a scoop katie leia ? i want to bleach my roots at home during quarantine but i cannot figure out how big of a scoop are you using ? also what mirror do u recommend ? also does it matter what gloves i use ? i was thinking about latex ones but i dont know if the scoops of bleach and developer will dissolve it, do i have to use plastic like u did ?? sincerely kevin
This probably isn't going to help you since it's been 2 months but maybe it will answer someone else's questions. Disclaimer: I'm not a professional, just someone who has bleached their own hair and their friends' hair a lot and does a lot of research before going at it. 1. Normally when you buy bleach powder, it will come with a scoop, follow the ratios in the directions. If by any chance there isn't a scoop, another option is to weigh the formula on an electronic scale (this is a lot more accurate), just follow the ratio (if it's 2:1 for example, 30g developer to 15g bleach powder etc. etc.) Just never ever mix bleach with a metal spoon or metal bowl, that's gonna react badly 2. It doesn't matter which mirror you use, so long as you can see the back of your head. The setup is to face the bathroom mirror and have another mirror behind you reflecting the back of your head onto the bathroom mirror in front of you. Obviously if you have a friend, use them, since it will make your life 1000x easier. 3. You can use latex gloves, any gloves are better than bleaching with your bare hands, they won't melt :)

my hair was recently done blonde (bleached) and my stylist made sure to leave space (about 3 inches) for my roots and it looks awful. its completely new but the roots and the side and front do not match at all. again, my stylist was afraid of getting to close to the roots. so she didn't dye them. was she wrong? i REALLY want to go buy some dye and do it myself. any advice?
Uhhhh depending on how much you paid and what service you asked for. Your hair stylist shouldnt have left 3inch roots unless you had a balayage or ombre. Did you ask for a full foil?
Hii so i toned my hair using wella n11 and it looked blonde but because i have color fading i cant really tell but im planning to bleach my roots and i bought wella t18. Do you know if the roots and the rest of the hair would look different? I was thinking about toning my whole hair but idk if it would damage the hair that is already toned.
Hi Cheryl! I think you should tone your whole head or blend the toner gradually to the middle of your hair so there's not such a stark difference. Either way, it should be generally okay but toner fades and your hair will even out. If it doesn't even out over time, you can tone again so maybe don't use the whole bottle of toner this time and save some for later touch-ups! Hope this helps :)

if youre bleaching twice in one sitting should u rinse ur hair w shampoo after the first bleach or just rinse the first bleach out w cold water, dry it and put the second bleach on n then shampoo ur hair after the second bleach?
Soo late lol but definitely just rinse with cold water, the shampoo is going to strip your hair even more after the bleach has burnt it out
someone helllppp, I have faded red hair (used to be magenta) and overgrown brown roots. so if I put the magenta colour on my (soon to be) bleached roots, and the rest of my hair, what if my roots end up looking terribly bright than the rest

They make kits on esalon.com ! They can build you a custom kit with everything you’ll need. So it’s a pretty stress free option if you don’t know what to get. Otherwise, if you’re just going to sally beauty or Amazon, then you’ll have to buy everything whole. Which is nice if you’re planning on doing it multiple times afterwards!

I have naturally dark brown with red in it. I have bleached my hair three times and it’s still not lifting. I’m currently trying to let it rest before I hit it with a 4th bleaching. I have stubborn hair too! But my end goal is to be a vanilla blonde color like yours! It came out really good.

Hahaa, girrrl how did I not watch this video before my first attempt at doing my hair all by myself yesterday~!!!! I watch youtube videos all day long on hair, and WHY WHY WHY couldn't I have seen this last week??? LOL, my story is a bit different, cuz my sister is my usual colorist, but the past few times she's done my hair, I've been extremely annoying and extra just, yeah, she pretty much told me to find another stylist from now on, cuz all the money in the world wasn't enough to put up with my ass... So of course, I have all of the professional products at home, and I don't EVER do on the scalp bleaching, and I never have, so I sectioned everything and sliced it all onto foils.... FIRST OF ALL, duuuuuuude your advice about not dragging the bleach down past the roots.... I WISH I WISH I WISH I had HEARD that, cuz of course, my mids and ends are now the PRETTIEST icy white, and my root area is that lovely shade of orange we ALL LOVE SO MUCH *said sarcastically* HAHAHAHA, now I want to go and do a second round for the root area ONLY, BUT because I did it on my "sunday" and had to work today, I HAD to put toner on that sh*t girrrrrl you know what I mean!! Luckily I have a collection of redken shades in 7n 7v, 8v, etc... so it helped with the SUPER orange parts, but now I guess I'll wait a couple weeks (IF I CAN) before doing the second round... I've got basically asian hair (color and thickness) except double the thickness, so I totally relate to the 40 volume taking three rounds to finally lift!! Anyways, now my comment turned into a novel, so I'll stop right here.... ALSO, real quick... your mirror is OMGGGG - I died of giggles, and then tried to figure out how I could do that at home, cuz I had moved a huge mirror into the bathroom, but had to sit on a stool in order to kinda see... anyways... hot mess.. but I'm excited for my second session and I'm proud of myself for trying and learning, and I am proud of you too!! i believe it depends on how dark your hair is!
10 is for color deposit, if you have light hair like light brown or blonde you can use 20 volumes but if u are brunette, you need 30 or 40
