I agree with what Aaron said. Laura is so good at that “conversational” style in front of the camera. So natural, witty, entertaining, while being informative. Aaron is no slouch at it, too. It’s one reason ( among many) that I enjoy Garden Answer so much. I can see how far you’ve come by looking at old videos from your first year at it. Laura and Aaron, you both rock at what you do. Hope you never stop! 💚💚💚💚

I was just thinking that exact thing about how far Laura and Aaron have come, even since just last year. Their video and presentation skills have really improved, and I'm including Ken here, too. The older videos were great, but this year they're just spectacular. Very professional. ~ Lisa

Cannot agree more. I came to their channel late, like in May this year, so I've been making time to watch their old (like back in 2015) playlists. She was a bit stiff at first (which is kinda cute and charming) and has been getting more comfortable over the years. It's so natural, like we get to see her process of growing more confident, and that's why I love their channel the most. My second best is Jenny's, therefore I was so thrilled to see them working together earlier.

You guys’ videos are really the most professional and polished out there. There are no uuummms and singsong explanations etc. The only thing that I see consistently is the misuse of the possessive apostrophe…. Such as when you label your videos “My parent’s garden” when the proper way to spell that is “my parents’ garden”. Heads up Christmas cards are coming up. 🙂🙂

I agree fully. Laura you should not sell yourself short, no one is an expert in every aspect of gardening but you are an expert in what you do. You have a wealth of knowledge and it's apparent, a degree or diploma would not make you more of an authority! I watch a lot of garden videos from South Africa, UK, Australia and the USA. You are my favourite (the only one I watch religiously) and I learn so much from you even though I garden in a completely different climate, on a different continent and different hemisphere, and i have clay soil and wet winters! But I do also battle the high pH soil!!! I so wish I could grow gardenias and azaleas lol 😆 Even my husband now asks what your video was about each day!! My garden looks all the better for the inspiration you provide me daily. Thank you.

For the 73 yr old gal that was asking about the auger. I am 63 and I used a high powered drill for a few years. But this yr it hit me in the thigh and I was bruised for several weeks. My son purchased a concrete drill for me and they have lower motor power. I am much happier with it. But it still can grab and twist your wrists. So if you did get one be very aware of that. You might be able to get some help with planting if you had one and got some help. Best of luck in what you decide.

I hear what you are saying about what goes on behind the scenes. I can't imagine, even with help, trying to balance it all! Would it make sense to review the videos in the morning and release them after they are ready? I so look forward to the seeing the videos first thing in the morning now that I am retired, but before that while I was working, I would view them in the evenings after dinner. It may not even be feasible, as it pushes out your filming to later in the day. Just trying to bring more balance to your lives. Growing up in the northeast I always planted bulbs with a handful of sand and bone meal. Now living in a more country setting I had to forgo bone meal due to raccoons and a small springer spaniel, Got a great tip for the problem-you can use oyster shells for both drainage and calcium when planting bulbs. Totally enjoyed the Creekside collaboration video just like and old fashion barn raising.

I have sooooooo many channels to follow, I don't really want another channel. Change the name of the highlights channel to something like "Garden Answer - Hit or Miss" or "Impetuous Garden Answer" or "Casual Garden Answer" all meaning this is the spot where your non regular videos go. I really like that you call out that you have help. I think it is important for people to be realistic how much person hours actually go into a garden like yours, and for people who are working full time, raising kids, having other commitments, it is really good to know what scale is actually achievable to work around their lives compared to someone for whom the garden is their job, and have the help and support, both paid and from family and friends. You have a lot of privilages, but you acknolodge them which is so important.

I love all your videos. They are so helpful in so many ways. This week your video on the augers was by far the most helpful to me. I saw an add where it said there were 17 different sizes. After seeing that, I had so many questions. You showed us the correct size for the size of nursery can. Everything is a teachable moment and that was your’s.

I believe on the drill settings you are referring to the torque of the drill. It sets the amount of speed and strength it adds to the drill shank. If you set it too high typically you will strip a screw head vs. too low it will make the loud grinding noise and not go anywhere. Think higher speed when you are drilling a hole in something (like an auger in the dirt) or lower when using as a power screwdriver.

Oops! I typed the answer before you both addressed it. :) I know I feel spoiled with an almost daily video, but truth be told I can't always watch every day. If 5 days a week work better for your family (especially once you factor in homework and extra activity time, which is coming in very shortly). 5 videos are plenty.

We have found in clay soil if using a auger go slow. The top 3 inches can be hard easier to break thru by rocking just a little bit. But once you get deeper into the soil, the clay has a tendacy to be more moist. This is the point you want to go slow, be careful because it can bind the auger and cause that auger to spin...this can literally break your wrist. We actually had a rented auger shaft to break in our clay soil. My husband almost got popped under the chin/neck with the portion he was holding when the shaft broke. So make sure you have heavy duty auger, a good power stance/grip, go slow and be careful

I've tried the Dead Weed Brew twice and it looked like it killed the stuff, but even pulling out the brown weeds - the next rain it was like I didn't do anything at all. I spray the premixed until the weeds are soaked, they turn brown and crinkle but it I don't pull, the stuff just continues to grow - dead on top fresh growth on the bottom. Weeds are just frustrating.

Hello Laura, Aaron, Benjamin & Samantha (oh and the fur babies too!). Speaking of Powdery Mildew, could you please share what you do to handle this problem. We had to cut all of our Lilacs down this past Spring, to refresh the large shrubs. They were coming back beautifully then all of a sudden we have been hit with a "blanket" of dang powdery mildew. I so hope we don't loose these shrubs, after all the work we have done with them. Please take care and stay safe ♥.

So many friends have said to us, "Won't you be glad when you finish your landscape?" We are trying to be more considerate with our responses because we have had a tendency to laugh at that question. Finished? No such thing. We love the process as has been evident about our now twenty year project. Oh and by the way, our landscape is 3/4 of an acre. Yes just 3/4 of one acre.
