When Alexei entered the ice that day, he was determined to make it memorable and so he did. He had everything, masculine skating, technical skill, speed, strength, with a perfect touch of emotion and his endless passion and love for the sport. All this combined with a remarkable choreography and an iconic soundtrack. It was definitely his moment, no one was able to fight his desire to win. Now, after almost 20 years, I realize he is more than a great skater, he is the definition of artistry. What a classic and what a legend! I'm glad that I witnessed a piece of history here.

I completely agree. The Artistry of this is unmatched. I will look up the figure skating pairs but the other commentator mentioned. This performance is unsurpassed. Yevgeny plushenko also had a similar Charisma and Artistry but I still love this performance the most. And Camila Valieva is like the female version. The doping Scandal was a tragedy, but she truly is one of the greatest female figure skaters of all times. Look up her girl on a ball performance in JR's. Stunning stunning stunning

Yagudin is so touching: he always gave what he had and skated with all his heart. He wanted to be the best and proved he was better than Plushenko. It's sad that he couldn't face Plushenko anymore cause of his pain on the hip. I was so sad when he retired but now that plushy doesn't compete anymore, I feel sader:((: they are both monuments of ice skating.

I forgot how Olympics was like before covid and somehow just from this video it also reminds me how the world was different back then. The world has really turned ugly but it's okay as long as you live in your own bubble with the people that matter the most to you.
@meshe5850 You forgot to mention that Plushchenko got his crown only after Yagudin retired. Though both of them are extremely talented, Alexei has always been stronger technically and emotionally. IF he continued to compete there is no doubt he would win over Evgeny many times...

He was the reason I fell in love with figure skatings. Okay, I love Midori Ito, too. I no longer feel the same about figure skatings. I think I prefer a pair more... BTW, Plushenko looks so painful now. Why is he still there? I no longer feel joy from that guy
Just to clarify, it was Scott Hamilton, and he didn't say he lost the gold to Pluschenko, he just said he was playing it a bit safe by not adding a second triple axle, that's all. It certainly wasn't as if Hamilton was playing favorites for America, since it was between two Russians. But I agree that there was no competition really.
Scott Hamilton really spoke as if he lost the free skate and was not very complimentary except about how Alexei put everything into his competitions. Scott Hamilton really annoyed me with his commentary. I had to find another site to watch it.
