      He's not great, but does everyone forget he finished 10th in the 2023 WC when the Aston was sort of ok? The Aston was one of the worst cars on the grid last year in the last 3rd of the season. Stroll has bested Tsunoda in the WC in the past 4 out of 5 years. Last year was the first year Tsunoda finished ahead of Stroll, and only by 6 points. That's pretty bad considering TR/AT/Vcarb is a much more substantial team than Aston Martin.

    Despite being a Red Bull junior driver, Marko but mostly Horner don't see as one, I think they see him as an outsider they had to take on because of their Honda partnership and no matter what Yuki does, they'll never fully recognize him, Marko has warmed up to him a bit coming to his defense in occasions but Horner is dismissive at best and hostile on the regular already calling for him to be replaced earlier in year

  • @ivaneurope
    @ivaneurope 3 дні тому +10

    There's a perception that teams hire Japanese drivers only because the engine manufacturer (be it Honda, Toyota, Yamaha or even Mugen) want so rather than on merit. Honda wanted Satoru Nakajima in Williams instead of Nigel Mansell, but Frank told them to drop it and when Lotus was looking for a new supplier in 1987, Honda accepted...under the condition that Nakajima will be in the 2nd car next to Ayrton Senna. Nakajima was hired by Tyrrell in 1990 after Ken Tyrrell was promised Mugen-prepared Honda V10's from the following season (which only lasted for 1991). Tyrrell also had Ukyo Katayama possibly to keep Yamaha happy. Aguri Suzuki was attached to Mugen's deals with Footwork and then Ligier (Mugen were unhappy after they found out that Suzuki will share the 2nd Ligier with Martin Brundle in 1995), then Mugen imposed Shinji Nakano on the now re-branded Prost team (much to Alain's chagrin). When Honda returned in the 2000's Eddie Jordan admited that he had to hire Takuma Sato to keep the engine supply from Honda, which was worthless effort anyway as Honda choose to work exclusively with BAR and (intentional or not) screwed Eddie in the process. Then there was Kazuki Nakajima, who was packaged as part of Toyota's engine deal with Williams and when that deal lapsed, Frank promoted Nico Hülkenberg without problem for 2010. TBF Yuki is no different - he's first and foremost a Honda protege for his entire career and Red Bull needed Honda on their side (otherwise , they'd have been stuck with Renault)
    The only Japanese rider that bucks the trend IMO is Kamui Kobayashi, who was on his own after Toyota abandoned ship, but Peter Sauber gave him a chance regardless.

Secondly he’s barely and I mean barely faster than a dude with 11gps when he’s had 4 years of experience. So while you could say Yuki is unlucky not to get the Red bull seat, you could also say he’s fortunate to have a seat in the first place as had it not been for Honda Yuki probably would’ve been out of a seat at the end of 22.

      This is the exact point made in the video - if Yuki beats someone like Nyck, then it's because Nyck is too inexperienced. If he beats Riccardo (who everyone expected to beat Yuki), then it's because Riccardo is washed up. He beats Liam Lawson by a small margin, and the narrative is that Yuki wasn't that good to begin with because he can barely beat a rookie.
      Yuki can't win no matter what he does, and nobody ever pays attention to the objective fact that Yuki has been on a clear upward trajectory his whole career and can score points in the midfield.
      Rewind 2024 and have it where Yuki absolutely destroys Liam Lawson... See my point? The narrative will be that Yuki just beat another inexperienced rookie so it's not impressive.

      @@yanikdavid3708 You're making the point for me. When Yuki beats Riccardo, someone with far more experience than Yuki than Yuki to Lawson, it's not looked at as if Yuki has "potential". Nobody cares. But when Lawson comes close (and again, still loses, albeit close), he's considered to have "potential".
      Yuki was never going to get that seat, it's pretty obvious at.
      As for Lawson, the burden is on him to outperform every other 2nd Red Bull driver, and with a lot less experience.

    • @yanikdavid3708
      @yanikdavid3708 3 дні тому +3

      @ maybe you’re right but, the thing is that Yuki beating Ricardo was never seen as a really big thing because Ricardo had higher peaks (albeit few and far in between) as his teammate, and opportunities to really cement a push for the top seat, Yuki let himself down. Think Mexico last year when he qualified in p4 in dry conditions, holding on to 7th place in the race whilst Yuki made an unnecessary error crashing into Piastri. Ricardo managing a p4 in Miami sprint and his good quali in Canada. His antics at Bahrain this year more or less sealed his fate but also think of moments like Canada and Mexico when he really could’ve built a case to fight for the top seat he dropped the ball. So whilst maybe Yuki is hard done by, he didn’t help his case in those crucial moments.

      @@justinlacek1481 i think everyone expected Yuki to easily dominate Nick and beat Ricardo. I believe he was also in contention for the seat if we considering what Marko was saying earlier.
      The issue is that everyone also expected Yuki to beat Lawson the same way he did both but he didn't.
      Lawson came and immediately started matching his pace and had no issue fighting against drivers like Alonso and even Hamilton in Brazil for example.
      What i am saying is that if Yuki had no outburst and dominated Lawson none of these videos would exist

    It's probably for the best. It's been demonstrated time and again that there is only one driver in RB, anyone in that second RB seat will just end up with an undriveable car and dragging the "team" down. Let's be honest, RB is hardly a functional team, so Yuki is probably better off staying put for now

    I just dont think Yuki, although a pretty solid driver now, has ever really stood out. If you had a f1 team, would you really look at him as a lead driver for your team, probably not. So if not your lead driver, your second driver, when youve likely spent millions sponsoring a younger driver, i dont think so. His talent level is known at this point, regardless of his personality, hes just another driver nothing more, nothing less. For redbull he has been used how they needed him. For this year they need a veteran to go along with a rookie, thats kind of it.

    The answer is very simple. Let Yuki leave RB and POTENTIALLY go to Aston Martin. That way you can fill the second seat with another Red Bull junior. Yuki was never getting the Red Bull seat. People seem to forget the 2024 Bahrain cool down lap where he nearly crashed into his teamate. He could have just got angry on the radio and in the media pen etc but he was in the sport for 3yrs at that sport and did somthing a rookie would do. I think it was absolutely inexcusable. I that was the point where RB decided that he wasnt the driver for them. Yes he's a great driver but after 3yrs he did a mistake a driver in their 1st season would do. He was never getting that seat. Also the fact that Lawson was immediately on Tsunodas pace after not doing a full season while Tsunoda has been in F1 since 2021 also didn't help. Rant over. 😅

    Yuki is not deserving of a Redbull seat. He was demolished by Gasly who Redbull dont rate anyway, and his immaturity is still present. His swearing and attitude comes out every time he’s under pressure, and his performance dips when under pressure. Personally I dont care about the attitude and swearing as drivers such as Max have proven that if you have the talent, it doesn’t matter. But Yuki hasn’t backed it up with performance. De Vries was rubbish, crash prone and well off the pace. Ricciardo wasn’t the same driver as 2020 (despite that Redbull test). Lawson was hungry, and came very close to Yuki despite his inexperience. Compare Lawsons first races to Yukis in 2021, and you see why Redbull believe that Lawson will have a higher ceiling than Yuki. In RB, Yuki provides a benchmark for Hadjar and future juniors, and Redbull get some cash from Honda. It’s not a mess, the situation is very clear and has been for a while.
