Classic rock fans are pretty annoying. They get so defensive about Led Zeppelin and the Beatles. Im a classic rock fan, but im not one of those people.
I can understand if you don't like Death. Music is personally preference. But I think why you think it's 'generic' is because so many bands were influenced by Death, so many bands sound like Death. But even saying that, I personally don't find Death generic at all. I actually find their music quite refreshing. But that's just me. He may have not created the genre, but he definitely played a part in shaping its sound. But at the end of the day, why do people give a fuck? If you like the music, listen to it. It doesn't matter whether its this, that or the other. I love Death. You don't like all the albums. Thats fair enough. I can accept that.
On the Radiohead fans saying that if a person doesn't like the music they aren't intelligent enough to understand it. Well studies show that people, when listening to death metal or related genres, have the same neural patterns as people when listening to symphonic/classical music. People often consider people who listen to symphonic/classical music to be the most intelligent of fans.
I love Radiohead, but totally agree and Tool is very similar in that respect. I have a lot of difficulty with the problems you mentioned because my tastes are so eclectic. I always run into people who think I'm somehow "unworthy" because I'll listen to Radiohead one minute, and Burzum the next. Seriously? Why does it even matter haha...
The most annoying in my opinion are people who hate modern music, and people who hate classic music. I wish people would just stay in between. I know people that hate modern music so much that they don't listen to new albums from bands they claim they "LOVE". I get it if you actually take the time to listen to it and not enjoy it, that's totally fine, but this is people who basically ignore it. It's kind of an insult. Another thing I find even worse is when people don't listen to future material from bands they claim they love. I know someone who claims they love bands like Slayer and Testament, which is awesome and I love both bands, and he hasn't listened to anything post 1990 from either of them and yet wears their shirts. It's hard to call you a fan of a band if you have only listened to a significant fraction of that bands albums. Now THAT'S what a poser is.
I cant believe that someone stated that Symbolic, Individual Thought Patterns, Human, and Sound of Perseverance Were 'boring". Perhaps its an age thing but I watched Death evolve from Scream Bloody Gore up. There was NONE doing what they were doing. They set the pace for all other death metal bands as evidenced by the fact that death metal has grown so stagnant since Chuck's passing. Most regard Chuck as the godfather of death metal because of his relentless evolution. He may not have invented death metal but it is called DEATH METAL not Possessed metal, not venom metal, Not Celtic Frost metal, Most of the musicians associated with Death have gone on to be some of the best in their craft Such as Steve Digoorio, Gene Hoglan, James Murphy, Bobby Kolbe, etc. I'm trying not to sound like a fan boy but I cant understand that statement. In my opinion Death metal has declined so much and I believe that is due to not having any person/band to guide them. And yes I am a Death metal purist but only because of what is has become. All the sub-genres that have splintered apart is just mind numbing. I am all for better production and all the technology it deserves. In the early days NOBODY wanted to deal with this style, NOBODY understood it, There was NO money/production in it. As it evolve and the specialty labels matured and became able to invest finances into the production the sound got better and the scene evolved. The standard evolved. The best rose to the top and the others faded away. Bands like Morbid Angel, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Deicide, Obituary, Carcass, Entombede/Dismember started seeing some success while others such as Nile, Macabre, Exit 13, Pungent Stench tried to inject their own style/sound while still remaining "death metal" Again not butt hurt just trying to state my counter opinion. Cheers!

And I laughed when you said that chuck would like that death metal is evolving. i saw them on theeir spiritual healing tour and this was EXACTLY a point of contention between him and some fucktards from a local metal band. they were yelling that chuck had sold old (each album, songs got more technical, production got better and better) and they equated this to he's not death metal anymore. just because he didnt go the OTHER direction that death metal was also evolving in at the time with the gutteral BREEBREEBREEEBREE are they even saying words crap. his attitude was "well...thanks for giving me money to tell me you think i suck. have a nice night and "enjoy" the rest of the concert". I am a thrash/death metal guy and i try to prey on the closemindedness of other metalheads. I go to shows like Maryland Deathfest wearing a 311 or Less Than Jake shirt :p
Great vid man! Some metal heads just need to be less close minded. I get shit sometimes because I love death metal and metal but also like hardcore and beatdown I dont see an issue with liking multiple styles of heavy music
I see your point on most of this. However, I wanted to say that calling later Death generic is a bit unfair considering its time frame. Sure, looking at everything from the 90s onward there are a million bands that have that sound, but mostly because of how popular and influential Death was. So, when that material was first written it was anything but generic. Otherwise, that's not a defense of the music's quality, in my case Death haven't been one of my go to bands for over a decade now.
I am kinda butthurt by putting Death fans as number one, Death is my favorite band afterall, but as you said its just your opinion. Sure I see how you like the first three albums, those were some of the albums that defined death metal as a genre. But I'd say Human, Symbolic and Sound of Perseverance goes above in pure quality because the riffs to me are less repetitive and more progressive, making it more artful. But hey, you can mean what you want.
I've always thought Max Cavalera has bar none the worst fanbase in metal history (Dimebag is a very close second). Max is a great musician and you can't deny his love and commitment for metal, but his fanbase is made up entirely of knuckle dragging Roots fans and old school Thrashers who cant accept that he's not in Sepultura anymore. Watch any new Sepultura video and count how many pro Max comments you see.
I'm a huge fan of black metal and feel like everyone should be able to listen to it. Hell, I force people to listen to it whenever I get the chance because I'm like "Oh oh, this song is awesome, you'll love it!" but, unfortunately, I agree with you that black metal has more purist/elitists than the other metal genres.
The first three Death albums are the ones I consider uninteresting, and I am in love with the rest of their discography, that's quite funny. And I think Chuck is overrated, I personally think Steve Digorgio, Gene Hoglan and Richard Christy are just as talented. I love your videos man, your one of my favorite youtubers, keep it up :D!
hey, im new to your channel, great stuff! i know you like ensiferum, eluveitie, and primordial, but i was wondering if you like the more upbeat, dancey kind of folk metal, like Korpiklaani, dalriada, or mago de oz?
great video dude. I agree, in a way some fans of black metal think if you listen to other genres your not a =true metal head. i listen to trance, blues, jazz..etc but I love black metal all kinda of metal !
My ball shrivelled when you said Death.. i respect that you said that, took alot of internet balls. Chuck for me was defiantly and innovator. But possesed, celtic frost and slayer really helped create the genre. Death just refined the style along with morbid angel, obituary entombed etc. Keep making great videos.
Wow...You were pretty much spot on about most of these stereotypes. You really brought to light the my-opinions-are-facts attitude that they all have. I really wish that the metal fanbase wasn't so crowded with elitists who can't handle other opinions. Personally, I listen to stuff ranging from post-grunge to melodeath. I can't really get into traditional death metal or the really, really underground stuff. But I respect the opinions of those who don't agree.
death last 4 albums are one of the greatest streaks of albums i've ever seen in music. i'm really sad that you don't like it. i would tell you to listen again but it prob wouldn't change your opinion.
Meh... who cares? Music is music. It's like films, there's good music in every genre. Diehard fans are like fandoms. I'm an indie post-punk metal hipster and my love of most music pisses everyone off. I'm a musician, so maybe it's different, but I can appreciate different genres of music without all this one-sided kissass bullshit.
this guy seams original. most people who make lists like this usually put avenged sevenfold and slipknot fans on the lists because that is the thing to say, but this guy has some originality.
I really respect you for speaking your mind about Death. Everyone has their own taste and sensibility and you shouldn't feel embarrassed that you don't like a 'seminal' band or album. I love black metal but rarely listen to Mayhem. I also love Death Metal but never really got into Obituary. So what? :)
good video bro! nice to know there is some like minded metal heads out there. love your vids to. you give us metal freaks a good name again. keep it up!
About Death fans. I think that can be said about all hardcore fans of "legendary" metal bands. For example AC/DC Bon Scott era fans. It's sad, but it's how some people work.. I like everything Death did, but I don't give a crap if other people don't =)
i just like all kinds from death metal to doom metal and black metal and so far and so forth i cant agree with you more oh and do you like carach angren?
hey dude just wanted to let you know ur one of the coolest dudes i've seen on youtube totally agree with your comments here on the various fan bases (except death, love their stuff post scream bloody gore but ur entitled to ur opinion)! i remember talking to a dude with a tsjuder shirt, told him thats a great band, and he was like shocked and when i was telling him about the last show i was at (hate eternal, obscura) he was like "those bands are shit get lost" i just laughed at him haha
Death is one of my favorite bands, but I definitely see where you're coming from about the fans. I don't particularly care who "created" death metal, but I enjoy Death more than Possessed.
Totally right on black metal fans. I'm a drummer and you gotta admit most black metal is very repetitive when it comes to drumming. I'd also put slayer fans up there and probably my most hated is the newer fans of hardcore aka acacia strain fans with their hardcore gangs and jerseys who stratt fights with everyone at shows
I don't really consider myself to be a huge metalhead, but I love watching your videos, dude. I really like your attitude, it's nice to hear opinions from someone who isn't a douchebag lol
I was about to argue on here, but then you admitted that not all fans that you mentioned are necessarily like that. Kudos to you. Honestly, you were pretty spot on with a lot of these.
love your vids dude and your oppinions are spot on ive been into metal since ii was 13 im 40 know and i still get shit cos i dont like judas priest lol keep up the good work stay heavy
I'm quite a huge death fan myself, but I lean towards the older stuff from the newer stuff (not that it's bad, but I just prefer the classics because that contains some of my favorite death metal songs).
I like all the genre's you said. Favorite bands are Agalloch, Darkthrone, Sodom, Pantera, Voivod, and Destruction. I also love Spiritual Healing by Death. I agree with everything you said, My next door neighbor is a die hard thrash fan, he says my musical opinion doesn't count because I like Whitechapel and A day To Remember. Wait for it...His two favorite bands are Death and Slayer.
Dude, you are so lucky to have not had to deal with ignorant Thrashers and Death fans irl (at least at the time of this upload). They definitely are no better than they are over the internet. Got swarms of them down here where I live, and I must say, they only contribute to the negativity associated with the metal culture. I find it sad.
Haha I totally agree about the thrashers, thrash is what I mostly listen too. They are soo very close minded.( expecially Metallica fans ) I was in like walmart or something and I was wearing a Metallica shirt this guy comes up to me and says let me guess your favorite song is enter sandman, do you like load, how many bassists have they had, do you hate megadeth and he just went on and on with those kinda questions. And the sad thing is it happens all the time. The thrash guys just take it so seriously. I listen to thrash mostly and all I wear are Metallica and slayer shirts but I like black metal and death metal and Viking metal and heavy metal and just bits and pieces of everything. They get mad when I play bass with a pick, I like things later than the 90s I'm really into Lazarus their song damnation for the weak is awesome, I don't really like kreator or exodus. But yes anyways thrash metal fans are annoying and hard to put up with
I agree with much of what you said, me personally I would reverse the order! Radiohead fans annoy the the most, I worship everything Chuck did, ESPECIALLY the later albums (Symbolic is my fave) but I never call out people on what they don't like. I might try to talk someone into but never harassment like you say you've come across...
I'm a death fan and I'm not like that, but I encounter SO MANY people who refuse to accept that some things, like the band death, are taste specific and won't appeal to everyone. Actually that last part might sup up the video; certain people with specific tastes hate that you might not share those tastes.
I definitely thought you were going to say Slipknot or ICP but I can't say I disagree. Keep the videos coming...I always post them on my band's Facebook page.
This peek into the "metalhead" world is mesmerizing. I dabble lightly in metal but am by no means in the position to claim anything. I think this can apply to any genre of music or all genres across the board. Pardon my ignorance, but from an outsider looking in there are like a hundred different metal sounds. I think Bloodbath is about hardcore as I go, but for all I know that can nursery lullabies compared to what you listen to ha ha. Again, I'm no expert OBVIOUSLY. I just thought it was an interesting video.
I really like cattle decapitation too, I think they also play a combination of grindcore with gore metal, thats what I understand from the term Grindgore :)
I love all types of music,I might get hate for this, I can go from Kid Cudi to Death to Slayer to Frank Sinatra to kreator to pink floyd to exodus to machine head. I like the old school death metal like Death, possessed,Celtic frost but I also love thrash metal like exodus slayer kreator sepultura Pantera
Omg. Death's one of my favourite bands. I'm real excited for their Death To All tour coming up. Anyways, i've never run into these fans you're describing. I think you can find these kind of people within every band and sub genre, people who can't accept other people's opinions as just that, opinions. Even though i'm one of these Chuck worshipers you reffered to, I understand a lot people aren't going to agree with me. Radiohead fans are way worse in my opinion.
Wow..Death sounding..."generic"..? I had to grit my teeth and say to myself in a meditating fashion "Its only opinion, its only opinion" lol, great vid dude ;)
Hey Count, 42 year old guy here who was around in the very early days of thrash. so yes, of course that is my favorite genre. Love hardcore and crossover style from those years as well. And of course death metal from late 80's 90's. Personally, i find so much of the metal coming out to be rehashed and tired. Its all pretty much been done before, But im not an elitist of any nature, and realy could care less what others opinions are, nor do i think mine is the "end all"opinion
I was so sure I would listen about thrashers on this video.I listen to thrash for about 5 years now and I generally prefer oldschool thrash. I can see your point when you said that we are stuck in 1980's but I just don't get what's wrong with thrash till death?I am not posting this comment in order to get a response like don't watch my videos but just to get your opinion.I really enjoy your videos and I think you are a nice dude so please don't get this comment wrong...
I have watched a ton of these "top worst fan base" videos from several different people. I think what it really comes down to is not the fan base but people as a whole, from every walk of life, seem to be too close minded and/or afraid to experience anything other then what they are used too.
Totally agree with you on just about every point, and I love Radiohead, black metal, old school DM, and Death. In my experience however, the most annoying fanbase is probably...Tool's. That hurts too, because I love Tool, but they seriously have some of the most obnoxiously pretentious fanboys and girls I've ever encountered in person; even rivaling black metal fans on the internet, which is saying something.
How do they contradict each other? I love Mastadon (the Hunter was a massive letdown to me). I'm pretty sure I can like progressive music and not like late era Death.
I agree with all of your points here Count especially concerning the Radiohead fans. When I was in my first year of University me and some friends who were Radiohead fans were watching that Thom Yorke improvised dance shit video. I said I didn't enjoy it and immediately was accused of being 'not open minded enough to appreciate it.' Radiohead fans are a joke
I love Death but I understand what you mean. It's kind of strange that you enjoy their first 3 records which are considered their worst, still awesome though.
Death fans are probably the worst, but I've always found Cannibal Corpse fans to be very bad as well. They just refuse to accept that CC has always been generic, and not to mention they are the most ripped off recycled bands ever! They're even guilty of copying themselves! Also, I'm a thrasher and I can agree with what you said about the majority of us. Every fucking word! I've seen it so much! Glad to say that was never me!
Man, looking back, do you now hear any contradiction in your video? I have yet to meet a Radiohead fan who made a video for UA-cam judging and putting down that which you dislike.
The worst of all in my opinion are thoose who say: "Real Metal".
Dude those are the worst
@No One how? Bruh I listen to thrash, death, doom, black, slam,Crossover thrash.etc etc. And most of the dudes in Exodus threw me the horns

I agree with Death fans too but its really ironic because Chuck was such a friendly open-minded guy unlike most of their fans

Exactly what I was thinking, They are more related to metal so they should have been the 5th spot.

i just like all kinds from death metal to doom metal and black metal and so far and so forth i cant agree with you more oh and do you like carach angren?
hey dude just wanted to let you know ur one of the coolest dudes i've seen on youtube totally agree with your comments here on the various fan bases (except death, love their stuff post scream bloody gore but ur entitled to ur opinion)! i remember talking to a dude with a tsjuder shirt, told him thats a great band, and he was like shocked and when i was telling him about the last show i was at (hate eternal, obscura) he was like "those bands are shit get lost" i just laughed at him haha
I find that the most metal "elitists" come from the black metal genre.
I'm not into Death at all, and I don't know any Death fan, but damn you described the Cliff Bourton situation well when you talked about that...
What shirt are you wearing?
Death is one of my favorite bands, but I definitely see where you're coming from about the fans. I don't particularly care who "created" death metal, but I enjoy Death more than Possessed.
Totally right on black metal fans. I'm a drummer and you gotta admit most black metal is very repetitive when it comes to drumming. I'd also put slayer fans up there and probably my most hated is the newer fans of hardcore aka acacia strain fans with their hardcore gangs and jerseys who stratt fights with everyone at shows
I take it you didn't listed to the part where I said that not everyone is like that?
I don't really consider myself to be a huge metalhead, but I love watching your videos, dude. I really like your attitude, it's nice to hear opinions from someone who isn't a douchebag lol
sry to ask but what was the number 5? Is it a band or a genre cause i've never heard of it before.
I'm quite a huge death fan myself, but I lean towards the older stuff from the newer stuff (not that it's bad, but I just prefer the classics because that contains some of my favorite death metal songs).
if you were to name your favorite thrash album and your favorite black metal album what would they be?
I like all the genre's you said. Favorite bands are Agalloch, Darkthrone, Sodom, Pantera, Voivod, and Destruction. I also love Spiritual Healing by Death. I agree with everything you said, My next door neighbor is a die hard thrash fan, he says my musical opinion doesn't count because I like Whitechapel and A day To Remember. Wait for it...His two favorite bands are Death and Slayer.
i like your opinions dude..its very rare to find a open minded metal head ..haha keep up the cool videos!
metallica fans
pantera fans
avenged sevenfold fanns
five finger death punch fans
slipknot fans
lamb of god fans
The Sound of Perseverance is worth another listen man. I've never heard another album like it
nice video though
Dude, you are so lucky to have not had to deal with ignorant Thrashers and Death fans irl (at least at the time of this upload). They definitely are no better than they are over the internet. Got swarms of them down here where I live, and I must say, they only contribute to the negativity associated with the metal culture. I find it sad.
And what you just said proved my point about Death fans.
But yes anyways thrash metal fans are annoying and hard to put up with
THANK YOU FOR PROVING MY POINT! THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT!
For the record, I have heard Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir on the radio, as well as bands like Satyricon and Immortal. But good video.
I'm the same way, even down to Symbolic being my favorite.
I'm a death fan and I'm not like that, but I encounter SO MANY people who refuse to accept that some things, like the band death, are taste specific and won't appeal to everyone. Actually that last part might sup up the video; certain people with specific tastes hate that you might not share those tastes.
why he is always sound like he about to cry?
1. Directioners
2. Beliebers
3. Hip Hop fans
4. Scene kids
5. Katy Perry fans
I had to grit my teeth and say to myself in a meditating fashion "Its only opinion, its only opinion" lol, great vid dude ;)
haha, love watching you talk about random crap haha , some truth behind the Radiohead shit though :p
Haven't encountered a Death fan that you described, but other than that I agree with everything else you said.
That flag at the upper left-hand corner looks like Hypnosia.

radiohead too deep? HIM has deeper lyrics than radiohead lol
Those statements contradict each other :p Do you dislike the progressive stylings of Mastodon as well???
If Tools on this list. YOU SIR NEED TO OPEN YOUR THIRD EYE! I will now watch your video.
I cry all day, every day.
What you think of Slayer, Metallica, and Pantera fans?
Death fans are probably the worst, but I've always found Cannibal Corpse fans to be very bad as well. They just refuse to accept that CC has always been generic, and not to mention they are the most ripped off recycled bands ever! They're even guilty of copying themselves! Also, I'm a thrasher and I can agree with what you said about the majority of us. Every fucking word! I've seen it so much! Glad to say that was never me!
What you said about the thrash metal fans is so true. They're afraid of change.
So glad you said that. When a metal musician dies he becomes a demi-god.
Man, looking back, do you now hear any contradiction in your video? I have yet to meet a Radiohead fan who made a video for UA-cam judging and putting down that which you dislike.
