'Journey toward Abraxas' for Haegeum and Geomungo (2023)
I was inspired by Hermann Hesse' Demian, "Birds struggle to get out of their eggs." The struggle performed in this work breaks the existing world(eggs) into a new world. It means our own gesture to move forward, and our own efforts to hear my inner voice.
The struggle of this work is both inward and outward. The struggle to get out of the eggs has opened up the possibility of Haegeum and to do so, I attempted to use Portamento, a strength of rubbed string instrument, controling its speed slowly and quickly, and to make various raw sounds, making the most of the open strings.
The struggle toward the inside is about the melody that contains the Jangdan, and rather than the method of simply putting Haegeum melody on Jangdan, I already considered a method to include Jangdan in the Haegeum melody itself.
Like in another sentence in Demian, "Those who want to be born must break a world," I hope that Haegeum's Jangdan can open up its new possibilities and that all these efforts can be my small gesture to break out of my own eggs.
해금과 거문고를 위한 '투쟁' (2023)
‘새는 알에서 나오려고 투쟁한다’는 『데미안』 (Hermann Hesse)의 한 문장에서 영감을 얻었다. 이 작품에서 그리는 투쟁은 기존의 세계(알)를 깨고 새로운 세계로 나아가려는 우리 자신의 몸짓이며, 내면에서 솟아나오는 나의 소리를 듣기 위한 귀 기울임이다.
이 작품의 투쟁은 안팎을 동시에 향한다. 밖으로 나가는 투쟁은 해금의 가능성을 열기 위한 것으로, 개방현을 최대한 활용하여 날 것의 소리를 내거나 찰현악기의 강점인 포르타멘토를 느리게 또는 빠르게 속도 조절하여 사용하는 등의 시도를 하였다. 안으로 향하는 투쟁은 장단을 내포한 선율에 대한 것으로, 장단 위에 해금 선율이 얹히는 방법보다 해금 선율에 이미 장단을 내포하기 위한 방법을 고민하였다.
‘태어나려는 자는 하나의 세계를 깨뜨려야 한다’는 또 하나의 문장처럼 해금의 가능성이 새로이 열리기를, 또 나의 알을 깨기 위한 작은 움직임이 되기를 희망한다.

Lee Go-woon's Focus Project 2 - Jangdan LAB
The Focus Project's second challenge, Jangdan LAB, is an attempt to explore new possibilities of rhythmic language. It aims to compose five works for Daegeum, Haegeum, Gayageum, Geomungo, and Pansori, and to experiment with and utilize the rhythm in various ways. In particular, this performance created and composed three categories of the use of rhythm (the rhythm of the melody instrument, the rhythm reinforcement of the expression and percussion instruments, and the melody of the rhythm) and experimented more with the process of creating the 'Jangdan-fully used' rhythm, disassembling the rhythm, utilizing the nuances of the rhythm, and overcrossing the level of the beat.
이고운의 Focus Project 2 - 장단LAB
Focus Project의 두 번째 도전 장단LAB은 리듬적 언어의 새로운 가능성을 모색해보기 위한 시도이다. 대금, 해금, 가야금, 거문고, 판소리를 위한 다섯 작품을 작곡하되, 장단을 다양한 방식으로 실험 · 활용하는 것을 목표로 했다. 특히 이번 공연에서는 장단의 활용에 관한 세 가지 카테고리(선율악기의 장단화, 발현 · 타현악기의 리듬성 강화, 장단의 선율화)를 만들어 작곡했으며 장단의 생성 과정, 장단의 해체 과정, 장단의 뉘앙스 활용, 박의 층위 넘나들기 등을 실험하였다.
