This album came out in 1987 or 1988, Carlos Santana was at his pinnacle, he won the grammy award for the first time in his career in 1987 for the instrumental track Blues For Salvador, no wonder he's on fire on his guitar leads on the track Fire At Night, i always loved Greg Rollie vocals and keyboards playing, he sang and played in some classic albums in his career, he has also some great solo albums, cheers to Greg Rollie for outstanding career, thanks for sharing.
14 TIMES 1975-1976 I SAW JOURNEY AT VENUES THROUGHOUT THE LOS ANGELES AREA, COULDN'T GET ENOUGH OF THEM, AND THEN HERE COMES THAT NEW GUY, CERTAINLY A WONDERFUL VOICE BUT STILL NOT MY STYLE, THANK YOU MR. GRINGO, A GREAT LIFE'S EXPERIENCE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH...
So as a opening act you seen them that many times ? Interesting, because B4 Perry that's all they were, & about to be dropped from label, If not for Steve Journey would of been history after their 3rd lp failure, who were they opening for back then ? But it was them you wanted to see & not the headliners 14 times ? Sets werent to long back then, what 5,6 songs maybe for opening bands, then what stay & watch headliner or leave ? Gotta say, you have to be 1 of their biggest fans of 1st 3 lps I've ever come across, will say though Schon is 1 of the best & underrated players ever, when you get to be a prodigy of the gre@t Santana to start your career, can't be anything but great
Some of the best singing and writing Gregg has ever done. Melodic, interesting, adult oriented, love the keyboards too. For those of you who think Rolie can't play a modern keyboard sound, this album proves he can.
@@MrNexus68b Marlette is only listed as playing on 3 of the 9 songs where Greg Rolie plays keyboard on 5 of the 9 sharing keyboard duties with someone else. I happen to also not care too much for 2 of the 3 songs Marlette is playing on here. Also I recommend the album before this. More of a rocker and Rolie plays much more of the keyboards. Yes, synthesizer too but not as pop as this. After the first three songs, this Gringo album is awesome.
I haven't listened to it yet, but the first thing that jumps out at me is that the cover looks a lot like Steve Perry's one for Street Talk released three years earlier (same pose, font choice, three colors...). So: pastiche, involuntary inspiration, or do both have an older common reference?
I still own this record on vinyl, purchased it at a used records store maybe back in 1994-1995 I guess. Back then I have always wanted to hear more from Gregg Rolie besides Santana and Journey. I absolutely loved it from the very first spin! Thank you for sharing! As far as I know this was re-released on CD on the Wounded Bird record label.

This album is incredible and all Greg Rolie music is so tasteful... these songs on this album are especially special as Greg Rolie's neighbor Melanie Lydecker was my girlfriend at the time. Greg had just recorded this album and gace a cassette tape to Melanie, so we had one of the first releases in the world!!! These songs always take me back to north lake tahoe with melanie riding in her blue convertable bug driving around the lake on a hot summers day singing all these songs!! Great times... Great Girl... Her dad Fred was the most incredible guy and i have so much respect... a capt in the san francisco fire dept. I hope Fred is doing great where ever he maybe. I have not seen or heard from Melanie in 40 years....
I got one of those too. She canned me when I got orders for Vietnam in 69.Kinda acted like she wanted me back when I made it home but by then I had enough sense to know it wouldn't work.
Old Soul anthems. Love it!! Thank you for the upload! Memories of hearing this in 90s laying in the back of the car at night falling asleep, with my Dad taking me on holiday to Scotland. I was born in 86 in Essex. Good fucking times Love ya Dad. Xxxx.
Fire at Night with Santana and Schonn is my favorite on here. Coincidence? I really liked Journey much better their first 3 albums and the first one with Perry and Rolie singing Journey songs together before they went full bubble gum (Perry writing) and Rolie gone (they have never been the same). Good business decision tho!
"The Hands Of Time - sounds like a Mashup between "Mike & the Mechanics -Another Cup Of Coffee" and "Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight" - well this Album is a nice 80's Soundtrack - unknown to the world and deserved to be a big one but missed it then - sad
It was a delight to listen to Gregg when he played the Hammond at SANTANA, then JOURNEY, now wow, his music has evolved a lot, awesomeness. Grrrrrreat sounds of 1987!
This album is absolutely fantastic, I agree, the songs, the singing, the melodic songs are amazing, nothing like music from the 80's, a great album for a midnight drive!!!
If you really want to hear Greg’s vocals at his best, check out Abraxis Pool, a band with former Santana members, less Carlos. But Neal at his best too.

Underrated album, what a line up of guitar players. Carlos Santana, Neil Schon, Dan Huff....unbelievable
Gregg and Neil played with Santana before they formed JOURNEY, there is the connection
Santana played in this album???

Amazing. The 80's and 90's had the best music

An overlooked gen from 80's - what else can one say?...
TY for the upload, I never heard this album, and it's great !!!!

Carlos Santana y Neal Schon, cada uno con su estilo y sonido inconfundible...
Can someone suggest more music like this? thanks.
Try Fahrenheit by Toto, Frontiers-Journey, Agent Provocateur-Foreigner
And Crimes In Mind by Streets, all are excelent AOR albums!
