    Hey buddy, I know this is a old video but I just found your channel a few weeks ago, I’m now disabled so I try to live through people I watch! I’m am so thankful I found you! From the family time to you praying over meals! When you pray I take my hat off like I am there! Don’t worry I watch the new videos! And as soon as I can afford it I will order some Everglades seasoning! God bless!

      They have those in Montana. We would use them for bait too. Especially when they are small.

    Helpful tip when cooking up catfish when you catch them cut the gills from the bottom across and bleed them out. It makes the meat taste better.

    I have been cat fishing in NC for 20 years and I always was taught to nail it down cut it and peel off the skin like he does. However once I tried a different method and it made a difference. Now i use pliers and snap off the barbs so I can lay it flat. I then go behind the gill at a 45 angle to miss the swim bladder and cut the fillet off, skin on. Then lay it skin side down angle the knife slightly towards the skin, lay my hand flat on top and work the knife all the way down. The difference is you get no silver skin which has the muddy flavor. You can then even pan sear it lightly (with no butter milk or nothing) just a little seasoning and its clean tasteing and no murky flavor. I even used this method with a friend who had only ate salt water fish and hated catfish. It blew his mind. try it!

    Just a tip that I was taught especially for big cats is to hang them and cut the tails off and bleed them out and it turns all that meat pretty and white. Just wanted to share, thanks for another great video! God bless you and your family!

    Bullhead, and yes they bite HARD. There are 3 types of Bullheads, Black, Brown, and Yellow. They're pretty good eating too. The smaller ones also make GREAT Flathead catfish bait. Use them on limb lines, trotlines, juglines. I'd love to see you do a video on that. My little girl Alaina would LOVE to spend a day out there with yall. She loves baby sitting too. She's 10 and She has Down Syndrome and she loves to fish and she wants to go Deer hunting.

      *They were actually catching Yellow Bullhead Catfish. In Florida, they are known as "Butter Cats" because of their sweet tasting flesh. If they're caught out of clean water & not somebodies ole muddy cow pond they're very tasty eating fish. In fact, I prefer them over other types of catfish!*

    When you get finned or stung by a catfish you should rub your sting with the slimy catfish it will take the sting/pain away. It is amazing but it really works. I am 57 years old and just learned that a couple of years ago.

      Horn pouts is another name I heard in Maine for them. Northern Maine has these Lil ugly fish that look like big tadpoles, called Cusk. They are weird! I've caught bullhead in Maine, Montana, North Dakota, and Texas. They must be pretty much everywhere.

    • @MatanuskaHIGH
      @MatanuskaHIGH 7 років тому +2

      cusk are actually what is called a Burbot...or in minnesota cusk are called eelpout same fish and we also have them in Alaska.. they are more closer related to Ling cod than they are catfish.

    • @johnmelland2093
      @johnmelland2093 7 років тому +2

      +matanuska high, I didn't know they had them in Alaska. That's awesome! Thank you for sharing that. I had lived and fished there but never seen one there. I was there 1yr. 9 mo. Camping 9 of those months, well living in a tent. Lol. I first moved to Palmer, then Moose Pass, then Seward. Sure miss that beautiful country!

    • @MatanuskaHIGH
      @MatanuskaHIGH 7 років тому +2

      im right on the border of Palmer and Wasilla here in the matsu borough. my secret Burbot spot is Caswell creek off the Big SU late at night during the silver season..using roe after it gets dark will produce lots of burbot. also in winter ice fishing you can catch them all over the place..long lake is a popular lake for burbot heading out of palmer towards glenallen.

  • @ditchdigger93
    @ditchdigger93 5 років тому

    Here in Kansas bullheads are a lot more yellow than that and the meat is also light yellow and truly does taste like butter. The only drawback to bullheads are they are way to prolific and they don't get very big. I've skinned twenty before to feed four of us as a kid and we always cooked them whole. They will just fall off the bones when they are cooked. I've seen some that might go as much as two pounds but as they almost always over stalk any pond you find them in four inches is a whole lot more common.

    Hi Robert... Those are just butter cats. At least that's what we call him here in South Florida. A lot of times on Sandy Bottom Lakes the bellies will be a lot more yellow then what you've got there but it's a red meat catfish as opposed to a channel cat or a blue cat witch is your white meat catfish. The other red meat catfish is a speckled cat but between the two red meat catfish that butter cats definitely the best. God bless you guys and have a great day.

    Bullheads up here in Georgia too! Sure wish we could hang out some time. Right now I’m busy with NP school but graduation is in December. The 7th to be exact. Anytime after then, I’m ready to fill in my fish deficit. For the past 4 years. Let’s do a catch clean and cook. I can get you on loads of crappie. In March and April. Thank about it Roberts .

    • @gabethomas7803
      @gabethomas7803 5 років тому

      Purpose of said "bones" Is to in fact sting a predator fish when being eating whole and are often spit back out. The reason a catfish "sting" of any kind has lasting pains is because they do secrete a mild toxin that leaves throbbing pains in the inflicted area

      Bluegill have no limits or regulations but for whatever reason bullhead do not like bluegill.. have never caught them on blue gill and my pond is stocked heavily with brown,green/yellow and black such you find most commonly in brackish water and temperate areas like florida. Bluegill and bullheads are good eatera but non the less trash fish in most if not all freshwater ecosystems. Invasive just like carp

    Those are definatly bulkheads and best way I have found to get the skin is put a nail through a board so the nail sticks out about 2 inches and put the fish on the nail so it goes through the head. That holds the fish because there so slimy and slippery.

    Hi deermeatfordinner,
    Next time you want is skin a catfish nail it's head to a tree. You can take a pair of pliers and scan it pretty easy. Catfish is some good eating. I don't keep any catfish over 8 pounds. Best tasting meet is 8 pounds and under. Like Dakota Foremam below says, bleed them out. It makes the meat taste better.

    How are you holding that knife. I'm left handed and learn to filet from you but holding the knife like that sets me back a 💯 years Lol 😂

  • @theoutdoorsman9726
    @theoutdoorsman9726 5 років тому

    I’ve never skinned a catfish in order to filet it. My grandad was a commercial fisherman here and he used to skin them if he wanted to clean them and leave them whole with bones in , but that’s it. If we’re filleting them you just filet it with the skin on just like you would any other fish. That’s Just an extra step you’re adding to the process by skimming them first. A lot faster to cut the filet off the skin after you have it off the fish than it is to make a cut and pull it all off with pliers.
