Hello. I just happened upon your video. If I may, I would like to suggest a few enhancements to how you prepare your beard balm. I make all of my family's hair and body products and have been for many years. I make my husband's beard oil and butters too. When melting down your ingredients, it is much more recommended to use the double boiler method...direct heat is always a no-no. This helps to preserve nutrients, keeps chemical bods much more stable and predictable, and stops the chemicals in your pot from reacting with the ingredients. Next, you may want to think about whipping your mixture after letting it completely cool. This introduces air to produce a much lighter, easier to handle product. It will also give you more yield per batch. Hope this helps. Happy beard growing!
Casandra Smith Thanks so much! I have seen people use the double bouler method and always wondered the difference! Now I know 🤣 Haven't tried whipping it yet however I def plan on it!! Thanks Again!!
If you do the 'whip after completely cooling' step instead of pouring into the tins to cool and set, how do you manage the tinning process to still end up with neat tins of set product?
Great video! I am a soapmaker- I use shea butter in a lot of my products. I saw some of the other comments... I would also suggest using a double boiler. Also, shea butter loses its beneficial properties when you heat it. (It can scorch at a low temp.) I would suggest melting your beeswax with your carrier oils and then adding in the shea butter once it has been removed from the flame. It melts at about 82 degrees. I hope that helps. :)
Soap maker here and exact comment I was about to make. Only add on, be careful of what essential oils you add for this. Lime and sweet orange are two that are problematic with the sun. To be safe, read up on your essential oils first.
So I am trying to make my own beard balm but mine don't really have that much smell? When and how much oil should I add? I am wondering if I am doing something wrong.
thanks for the recipe. just made my first batch. only change i made is that i subbed the carrier oils for Jojoba oil and castor oil, and used peppermint essential oil. can't wait to try it. cheers.
i have been making beard balm for a while now. I've learned using mango butter instead of shea butter helps the balm feel less greasy. i have some customers that don't want the oily feeling after applying beard balm. i aslo add kaolin clay to make it even less oily. just don't use raw beeswax with kaolin clay...it creates a "honey" scent to it. not sure why.
Hi there, great video! Might I suggest using a stainless steal double boiler, I make my own products and find that the stainless double boiler works the best. Thank you for sharing
You can use a fragrance oils instead of the essential oil he used. The sky is the limit...you can find them on Amazon or most soaping supply companies. Hope this helps. : )
This video is the balm! haha sorry couldnt resist. Can you, or did you, do a follow up on the smell using the 10 drops of essential oils? Was it enough? not enought?
Anthony Villa yes it kind of does which I actually don't mind, but one commenter mentioned using mango butter instead of Shea butter for a less oily/greasy feel..
Hey there! thankss to you I've seen beard balm for the first time ever in Turkey. And guess whos product is this? Yeah, you guessed right. I made it thanks to you! But I've got one question. While I was shopping in the store I smelled the orange oil but didn't fit for my tase. I wanted a smell more manly or some smell like we always want to have but couldn't actually find. So what else would you recommend me? No lavander :) Great beard btw! Thanks in advance. :)
I would look for a Essential oil or Fragrance oil company that is near you or ships reasonably. You will need "usually" not always, but 2 times or 3 times more Fragrance Oil than Essential oil in products. Add a little then stir, then add more if needed. You can always add but not take away. Good luck!
Hi 🙂. I know you have probably figured it out by now but I make these for my husband and small business and I have used frankincense and sandalwood. I even sometimes mix them together and makes a good manly scent.
On the manliness kit page you recommended, none of the recipes they mentioned followed the one you did. For example you used 2 tbsp' of beeswax and Shea butter, yet the closest recipe on their site used 2 tbsp's beeswax and 3 tbsp's Shea butter. Was there a reason you went away from their recipes?
kyle baxter Good Call! Yes, the reason I chose to cut back the Shea butter is because I want a little more hold from my balm! I have been playing alot with my ratios in hopes of finding the perfect blend for me!! Thanks for watching!
thefamilymixx yeah I followed your recipe and I found that I wasn't in love w the texture. Kinda like a smidge greasy when I press into the top of it. And it was a lil difficult to press into. But I did enjoy your video nonetheless
kyle baxter Thanks again! Awesome that you made your own! There was a commenter below that shared some great ideas that I am definitely going to try as well.. Thanks Again! Glad you enjoyed
AWESOME. Keep up the great work. Lots of good corrections noted here, but overall great job. And your beard IS evidence of this. Looks lush and healthy.
What would its shelf life would be? I would like to get into making my own balm, but I would be worried about the left over ingredients going bad before I get a chance to to use it.
Use a double boiler!!! The bees wax will be horrendous when trying to wash it out of the pot you are using. Put a pot on the stove and fill it with some water (about 2 cups of water) let that simmer and then put a glass bowl that fits over the lip of the pot! It works amazing and is much more easier to work with! I make homemade natural products myself and using that method always does the job 100%. Cool video too btw!
Hi, thanks for the video. I want to create my own beard balm, but I don't want to use the beeswax. Do you think the ingredients (butters and oils) will harden anyway, once cold, without beeswax?
Was there any hint of separation of ingredients, as it cooled? (like maybe the top or bottom having more oil versus wax or butter) Faster cooling in the fridge, just to make sure it remains a consistent solution, might be something to try.
Hey there new viewer here. Glad we found your channel and look forward to more videos. I have never grown a beard before. I am 32 years old and never done it. Maybe it is time!!! I dont know that my wife will like it.
I'm self employed I make natural bar soaps whipped soap scrubs lip scrubs and now I'm adding Beard Balm to my collection. I'm glad I watched this video you reminded me I need BEESWAX
This is a fabulous video! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and being open to suggestions as well... that is a rare combination in a person! Keep up the great work! Liked and subscribed!
Great video. Save yourself even more time and money, just buy a jar of virgin coconut oil for 5 bucks. Hands down the best thing for your beard. Just saying.
How to make a best balm for get white beard to black ? Coz my some beard are going to gray & i want to stop & reverse or colour by home made balm. Answer me please. Thank you.
Hey, Thank you for the video. I hope, meanwhile, you're realized that you ad the essential oil at the end. Because they evaporate and lose the properties. Tip: squalan
I stayed tuned and you showed me! Thanks for this! I've been wanting to get out of the beard balm industrial complex (haha, kidding) and experiment with some of my own products.
I tired doing it at home , I bought all products oil, butter , wax , you named it they all cause me dandruff and oily skin I stopped it I just let me beard grow
Liked and subscribed! I've been giving it some serious thought into making my own beard butter. I think this pretty much just made up my mind. Cheers to you Sir, thanks for the info on how to do it.
hello great video , i am looking to mix the carrier oils - Argan, olive and jojoba oils (mixed with some essential oils for scent) can you please recommend what percent of those 3 carrier oils will I need to use please.. thanks love from London
Love'em. Thank you. Noticed that some of them cool in different shades. (Darker/lighter circles). Any thoughts onwhat causes this? Or it's normal? Thank you.
To consider..the nutrtions in the oils and butter gets lost if they are too warm. I mean if one goes back and starts re-melting the stuff. Its only the beeswax that needs longer time to melt. Around 60 C I think.
Can I substitute shea butter with coco butter and would it be the same quantity with beeswax.would leave your beard style and hold not freasky tingled hair .nice introduction thank you
Thanks for the great video! I'm wondering what are the quantities for larger batches? and is the beard balm much different from the moustache wax? I'm trying to start a business selling beard grooming products by doing it myself. Thanks
Mansour Barri Thanks for watching! I tried doubling the recipe for a couple batches and it worked great.. check out themanlinessskit.com link in the description for the other recipes.. they should work just fine by bulking all the ingredients to make however much you want! Good luck!
You listed jojoba oil in the description, but never showed you adding it. Also, what type of carrier oil? You mentioned it, but never showed you adding it.
Thanks for a great video with instructions and source of products. I just started my beard, 6 weeks ago, I’m older. Always had a mustache. I make my own oils, probably just need beeswax and Shea butter.

@@thefamilymixx hey did you ever get around to trying to whip it? Id be interested to hear your thoughts on this
I wonder how the body gets rid of the beewax. It is naturally waterproof and can't be washed off or absorbed by skin.
@@aykutdizdar if the body can't absorb it or wash it off, it'll be removed when your skin is replaced.

Oh my gosh, you got me with that opening line ("What's more manly than growing a big, beautiful beard? Well...nothin')! 😂😂😂
Mother Esque Bath & Body haha thanks.. it took me a couple takes to get it right.. kept laughing before I could get through it 🤣

What’s your brand called?
OMG, the intro almost killed me. "What's more manly than growing a big, beautiful beard? Well...nothin'
Lol
Ha thanks!
Great video I used eucalyptus essential oil
A real man would show us how to get the wax straight from the bees, not get it out of a packet?
Hi there, great video! Might I suggest using a stainless steal double boiler, I make my own products and find that the stainless double boiler works the best. Thank you for sharing
Great intro. Funny, well done.
Do you know music 🥰...
I’m excited I’m a soap maker. I make beard oil, beard soap so now we are on to beard balm :)
You sir have a glorious beard.
8krpm Thank You Sir!
You should make an updated video of this but use the double boiler method
Looks legit. Wish we had smellavision.
Lol not sure what you mean..
@@thefamilymixx Smell-o-vision, where you can smell what you watch.
I want to smell that balm too.
Man I like your balm video... I am from Brazil and i wanna know if you can do a beard oil video... That would be great thanks
Brunno Parana Thank You! I will be filming a beard oil video soon!
thefamilymixx that's nice! I'll be waiting! Keep the great job
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, Aloe Extract, Vitamin E , Beard Oil . Lust Bath Luxuries
Awesome "how to" video. What size containers did your combination fill.....2oz?
Lionel Myers Yes sir they were 2oz containers!
too bad i can't grow a beard to save my life. pretty cool that you made that yourself! do you sell all the extra ones that you made?
Look Who's Blogging Thanks for stopping by! No I gave a few of them out.. It'll get used up I'm sure 🤑
Badass would biotin be a good addition in the blend?
I love your beard 😍 ❤ 😍🥰
Can I just use vitamin e oil instead of all the carrier oils? Tia
Great video!! What would you suggest to give a balm a leather smell??
Dimebag4510 I think it's a great idea...
You can use a fragrance oils instead of the essential oil he used. The sky is the limit...you can find them on Amazon or most soaping supply companies. Hope this helps. : )
Dimebag4510 There is a fragrance oil called "Wild West" that smells like a saddle. . www.indigofragrance.com/
I wouldn't used unrefined shea butter. The dirt/smokey smell will over power virtually any essential oils you add.
This video is the balm! haha sorry couldnt resist. Can you, or did you, do a follow up on the smell using the 10 drops of essential oils? Was it enough? not enought?
great video I subscribed!
Mishka Moreno Thanks so much!
I don't see the link
Hey brother so were do you get all the stuff?
Hey. The recipe on that website says 1.5 table spoons of butter but you used 2. Does it make a difference?
Next on your list, make homemade hair pomade
does this mixture leave a very oily feel afterwards
Anthony Villa yes it kind of does which I actually don't mind, but one commenter mentioned using mango butter instead of Shea butter for a less oily/greasy feel..

Ugh! The music is so annoying! Good video though.

Hi, thanks for the video. I want to create my own beard balm, but I don't want to use the beeswax. Do you think the ingredients (butters and oils) will harden anyway, once cold, without beeswax?
You can try substituting the beeswax with coconut oil (which is considered a carrier oil). It will harden below I certain temperature.
Where can I buy supplies to make my own beard balm
Was there any hint of separation of ingredients, as it cooled? (like maybe the top or bottom having more oil versus wax or butter)
Faster cooling in the fridge, just to make sure it remains a consistent solution, might be something to try.
Amy way of making this have more hold?
I followed this and for some reason my final product was very stiff.. hard to the touch
I have been looking to make a balm for my beard and my wife has all the ingredients from her candle and soap making.

Mustache was has more beeswax in it...beard balm is normally at 1:4 ratio/ beeswax to oil and mustache wax is 1:2...based on what I have researched.
Never put it directly on stove, you need to do a double boiler method. Add it in a safe glass bowl and Put it in the hot water
anyone knows of a (oil/balm/butter) scent that comes close to the "Aveda Men Pure-Formance Grooming Clay" scent?
I'm just finding this video, but I'm excited to give it a try. Thanks.
I just bought the white ivory beeswax 1lb bag for 10$ a 7oz shea butter for 10 and 12beard balm tin for 11 if that's a good deal
anyone knows of a (oil/balm/butter) scent that comes close to the "Aveda Men Pure-Formance Grooming Clay" scent?
Would the balm expire?
I would have used the balm for a bit before making mass quantities of it, just Incase you wanted to change smell or consistency.
Nice! But is it not more expensive as you've to buy all of the ingredients?
You listed jojoba oil in the description, but never showed you adding it. Also, what type of carrier oil? You mentioned it, but never showed you adding it.
He used Argen Oil as the carrier
It sounds like you are saying beard bomb.
Thanks for a great video with instructions and source of products. I just started my beard, 6 weeks ago, I’m older. Always had a mustache. I make my own oils, probably just need beeswax and Shea butter.
Both shea butter and and Cocoa butter can clog pores.
How did you like the balm? Any suggestions or changes?
Respect from jamaica i really want to sell this in jamaica
You should try cedar wood essential oil it is amazing for hair. I use young living brand when I make it😊
Does the beardbalm come off with bodywash or shampoo?
Straight forward amazing recipe. 👏 that saved us time. Thank you
The beeswax that I got is a solid 5oz stick how do you store it
Richard Reynolds I'd probably just wrap it in plastic wrap or put it in a Ziploc..
Mine is literally just sitting in my pantry in a wicker basket and has been for 2 years. it is very resilient. :)
Hey this is a Great instruction on how to make my own beard oil...damn I just left the stores to get all this stuff ..where do I get the tin cans
Do a search for "balm tins" at Amazon.
