Omg thanks for checking out Day6 , one of my all time favorites. This group was probably one of the first in kpop that drew me in ,The fact that they are a band who write, compose , sing and play instruments in all the songs they produce is just amazing. Not a single bad song, i know that's a stretch saying this but truly they have very beautiful songs, some might be better than the rest but none of them are bad. If you could check out their killing voice it would be great , you would totally enjoy it !
yes! of course! I had to get to them regardless! I need more too! thats the way I like my bands! self made is just *Chef's kiss!* I will do their killing voices!
Yes more Day6!!! I'm very new to them but I've heard some of their most popular songs (I'd swear you did Zombie once) and their Killing Voice earlier this year was fantastic. I hadn't heard this song before but I loved it.
yes!! they have quite a lot of amazing songs. especially in 2017 you'd see that they released a single every month leading up to the singles compiled in an album on june, and the rest of the year compiled in the december album. tbh my fave songs of them come from around that year! my faves from 2017 are What Can I Do and I Need Somebody! but besides that, i think you'd really like Shoot Me
Well well well... looks like the stars finally aligned for Day6! You promised me 6 months ago (your words were literally 'I promise' lol) that there would be a Day6 OWC 🤣 Anyway, thank you for checking them out. I don't necessarily think of Day6's genre as rock. I think a lot of people come in with that set expectation for their sound and end up unhappy when it's not met in exactly the way they thought, so it's nice that you generally like to be surprised. One thing I’ll say about them is that they’ve been in a bit of a difficult position from the start. They were the first band from a 'big 3' kpop company like JYPE, and as such they are not really idols, but they are also not-NOT idols. They’ve been expected to straddle a tough line and cater to the GP with sometimes very poppy title tracks that can played on the radio and they promote on music shows alongside idol groups, but never really get the same investment and resourcing. They were basically hung out to dry for several years through the bulk of their career; having to do their own songwriting and composition from day 1, doing a lot of busking, festivals and any little opportunity they could get to perform live and hone their skills/ promote themselves. Also Twice debuted a month after them and in typical JYPE fashion, the girl groups get the company's full focus and resourcing. But the upside is that we have such a well-documented journey of their growth! At least 3 of the members were idol trainees and had no idea they’d end up in a band! The drummer is classically trained and went to university specifically for drums, but Sungjin the guitarist hadn’t ever touched a guitar until just 3 months before their debut. This particular song is from about a year or so after their debut and marks the start of their 'EveryDay6' project where they wrote and released a title + b-side track every month during 2017. They've always liked to explore and pull from different influences and they have a lot of fun with their music. They would go out to public places like parks or near the Han river to record sounds to incorporate into their music. And sometimes they play rock paper scissors to decide who gets to write or compose which part of a song 😂 You're probably gonna get a bunch of title track recommendations from viewers, but tbh their b-sides are where the real interesting stuff can be found! Their discography runs the gamut from a bunch of rock subgenres, jazz, blues, quite a lot of funk (more than one would expect! lol) that sometimes skews towards a very Motown soul sound a la The Temptations, to ballads, synth-pop, industrial, heck even bossa nova- There is SO MUCH COLOUR in their discography! One of my fave things is how much improvisation they tend to do when performing live, they switch things up so much! My brother actually likes to call Young K a show off for all the vocal acrobatics he tends to do when performing in more relaxed settings lol. Most people will agree that besides their vocals, one of the best things about Day6 is their songwriting. They draw inspiration from almost anything and the messaging is just always so relatable and accessible no matter who you are. They also do this thing quite often, where they have a very lively / upbeat melody and instrumentation paired with the saddest most devastating lyrics you’ll ever hear and it’s a super interesting juxtaposition lol. Young K is known today as one of the most prolific songwriters in the k-pop industry and he usually sits at the number 3-4 spot on the KOMCA list for idols with the most song copyrights registered. There was a video I suggested many moons ago about Young K's voice and how he wields it. It kinda gives a sneak peek into the versatility of their music as well, but maybe I'll send the link again if you'd be interested in checking it out.
Ohhh man! I am so sorry! I guess my brain just shut down, I am so sorry! Yes, in fact if you send me a link I'll do it this week, I want to make it up to you! I would like to do a OWC for DAY6 this was pretty awesome!
I was just about to write, typical JYPE, lol! That sucks though, honestly, if they are this good on such little time, they must be really good! Yeah, I noticed that like almost immediately, there is a huge huge HUGE songwriters feeling behind this, they really hit the emotions. I would like to keep getting to know them!
@@fact.check. Um no, sorry. I grew up on pop-punk, and I can honestly think of maybe 2 songs in their whole discography that would fall under pop-punk and it’s probably Get The Hell Out & Sad Ending, which both came out only this year and then maaaybe Sweet Chaos based on the riffs at the beginning, but tbh the actual melodies in the vocals are far too jazzy to solidify that. Xdinary Heroes veer more towards pop-punk sonically with their latest 2 albums but also thematically with the anti-establishment messaging they’ve had as part of their concept since debut. Day6 is 1 of my 2 ult groups, so I absolutely adore them. My not wanting to box them into the rock genre is not a diss in any way. Like I said they do explore different rock subgenres, and based on their most popular title tracks, many would consider them pop rock. But such a massive percentage of their music explores other genres, that it really doesn’t feel like an accurate label and it just sets them up for new listeners to call them boring for being more vocally and lyrically focused instead of instrumentally like they assumed.
what a coincidence! I was mentioning day6's bassist under FT Island's reaction because of his new guitar and soon after I see a whole reaction to them 🤭 I was surprised~ it's interesting how your first introduction song to the group because "I wait" with more rocky sound ^^ it's not unusual per se, I just remember how I also decided to check their discography more and dive deeper than casual listening after "I wait" was released
thats kinda what I am hearing, haha! yeah, its always a bit of an interesting mix when we do the randomizers like this, I think it paid off, I am feeling pretty interested in them, I will be covering them again tomorrow
If you want more rockish style here are my list : - I need somebody - Warning - Rescue me - Headache - Shoot me Hidden gem : (many musicians reactors love it) - Afraid - So lets love There's a live performance video of my all the time fav : - Better better (great concert vibes song) - I'll try (it's written inspired by the love of wonpil's mother, very angelic song) ua-cam.com/video/Mi5LSZods3Y/v-deo.htmlsi=5jk10hFtIt1OU4sC I hope you can check on these and continue to love day6❤
Day6??? As in, the only boy group I actually know??? Surprised to see me on a non-girl-group video? 😅 I don't know their entire discography inside and out, I mostly know their earlier stuff and this is definitely one of my fav songs! I think this was a good introduction to them indeed! Without knowing nearly as much about music theory (or instruments) as you do, Led Zeppelin does have a lot of blues influences especially in their earlier stuff, and didn't early metal evolve out of groups like Led Zeppelin? So that "blues-to-harder-rock-and-metal" stuff made sense to me I guess haha 😊
heeey! yeah! that is pretty different haha! interesting, you are the second person that has brought up their earlier songs, sounds like a strong debut! yeah! the truth is all metal stems from blues! you ready for this, Muddy Waters plays in England where He met and performed with harmonica player Cyril Davies and Alexis Korner, the latter whom was born in the 1920s and is often referred to as the Father of British Blues. Around the time Davies and Korner met Waters in 1961, they had a band called Blues Incorporated, a loose-knit group of musicians that included at various times Ginger Baker, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Rod Stewart. and before you know it, Cream, Led Zeppelin Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix all started playing, Tony Iommi was inspired by their blues riffs then BOOM Black Sabbath was born along with metal

And speaking of Lay, it's kinda funny because when I got into EXO, he was already in China, but all those old clips and his love for EXO are just so wholesome! Sorry, I got a bit carried away😭😅
you are absolutely right, I think there was a lot of things going on behind the scenes, I saw an interview with him, at least I think it was him and he talked about his time there and he was pretty emotional about it

good idea!

haha nope! I did Zombie from Everglow and Purple Kiss though lol! I do need to do more, I might need to do a battle of the best Zombie lol
Thanks for checking out day6! they got a ton of variety in their songs so hopefully you can dive into them more!
that is the plan for sure!

Honestly, that way is the future of album releases, they are ahead of the game there too! Good to know, I will keep that in mind
yessss day6 has literally no bad songs

They did a killing voice which is honestly amazing in my opinion and gives a small peak of their huge discography (small haha)
probably should start there then eh? haha sounds good! thank you!
Thanks for reacting to them, I hope you’ll react to more of their stuff !
absolutely!
My fave band and I'm in UK, they've got so many good songs, seen them live as well
