Sleeping beauty is definitely underrated massively. It’s a work of art and it’s simple story can’t help but be charming. It’s perfect for literally all ages and both boys can get behind the sword fighting scene and clearly the girls are all for the beautiful princess

While I wouldn't consider "Sleeping Beauty" one of my top favorite Disney films, there's still plenty of elements I love about it. First and foremost are the visuals, which are absolutely gorgeous. You explained very well how amazing the backgrounds are, and I really love the character designs, particularly for Aurora and Maleficent. The former has such elegance in her movement, from her dancing in the forest and walking up those dark stairs, to the flowing locks in her golden hair. Maleficent perfectly represents 'all the powers of Hell' with her sharp lines and dark colors, and her dragon form is one of the coolest designs of any Disney film. Not to mention her final battle with Prince Phillip was one of the best Disney climaxes.
The other main aspect I enjoyed was the three good fairies. Not only were they entertaining to watch (fairy or peasant), but they were also endearing for acting as mother figures for Aurora. I like how compared them aiding the prince to a video game character giving the player a tutorial.

I remember the animator in charge of Maleficent said something like going from Maleficent in her detached elegance to Cruella DeVille's in your face attitude next on Dalmatians was a fun contrast.

I’d say that Aurora should be given a fair chance when it comes to her Disney colleagues. Consider that she was cursed as a baby to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die. Her parents send her into protective isolation for 16 years, with only the three Good Fairies and a few forest animals to give her any resemblance of loving care. That takes a toll on a person. I think anyone that’s been in isolation for any amount of time can sympathize with that.
On her sixteenth birthday, she happens to meet the man she’s always dreamed of, falls in love with him, and invites him to meet the fairies at the cottage. She rushes home ecstatic, only to find a birthday cake and a beautiful dress (which should be blue in my opinion), which her caretakers have made to soften the blow of the real truth. Aurora is actually a Princess who is betrothed to a man named Prince Phillip. Aurora must leave the cottage without ever seeing the man she met again, and go back into isolation for the good of the country. Destined to marry a prince that she’s never met (the audience knows that Phillip is the man she met), and having virtually everyone look to her as their leader, Aurora believes that she will always be alone for the rest of her life. This makes her almost inconsolable, and an easy target for the evil Maleficent.
The fairies sneak her back into the kingdom by night, and put her in her chambers, with a crown on her head. Aurora breaks down again, and the fairies let her have a moment alone. That same moment is when Maleficent, who is maliciously hiding in the fireplace, hypnotizes Aurora against her will, leads her to a room with a spinning wheel, and forces her through the power of suggestion to touch the spindle.
Were it not for Merriwether’s gift of slumber changing the curse, and Prince Phillip’s valiant effort to wake his love with true love’s kiss, Princess Aurora would likely be dead, or at least never wake up. But Maleficent is defeated, and the Prince and Princess marry, living happily ever after.

You need to look up the word animated. But I understand what you mean. Hand drawn animated. That would not be economically possible today though. Or, the art style has died out. Either one. I don't think it is fair to compare hand drawn animation w computer animation because they are 2 completely different art styles and both are supremely specific.

Some animated films under Walt seem to be misunderstood in modern times. Just like in Snow White, the princess and prince are not the main characters of the film. It’s all about the Dwarfs and the Queen fighting over her. In Sleeping Beauty it’s the same thing tho with the 3 good fairies and Maleficent being the key players. When the princess has less screen time than the comic relief that should hint at something.

My dad introduced me to Sleeping beauty as a kid, telling me I'd love it. My Grandmother gave me the 1983 Ballet by the Kirov Ballet and you had better believe I watch both of these, and listen to the music, regularly. I quote along with Maleficent and sing along with Aurora and I love the art and every rewatch always has something new I didn't notice last time.
The Maleficent movies can go burn in the fires that spawned the original Maleficent for being a travesty and an insult. The only reason I did not walk out of the theatre was because I paid top dollar for luxury seats.
This original timeless classic will be my favorite Disney movie forever and a day, and the music, the ballet, the fuhnny scenes and all the mistakes I've seen in the film (and the missing sound FX, that bothers me) will always be a part of mt life until my last day.

I remember always telling myself as a child that I'd never watch Sleeping Beauty because I assumed the whole movie was about a sleeping princess. I convinced myself that nothing happened in the film... anyway, this review is kinda intriguing because I'm a sucker for graphics, and seeing how pretty they are makes me want to watch it.

You should this was the most expensive Disney movie that almost got them bankrupt. They hired fashion designers, expert painters and argued about almost everything about this movie. They’re was even an intervention with the painter(who did the entire background of this movie), that he was making it so good that they were afraid audiences were going to focus only on the background and not the actual movie. If you want I can send you the link where some of the creators of this movie and others(like Aladdin, beauty and the beast, etc) all talked about this movie in extreme detail. And behind the scenes.

Rite Of Spring is my favorite part of Fantasia (always been a dinosaur nut). Originally, the segment was going to conclude with the Ice Age, showing Humanity's primitive, caveman beginnings. The visuals are amazing, and the three good fairies are a delight. Maleficent is the standout of the movie, but the reason it doesn't get more love is 1) The story wasn't compelling. It's too run-of-the-mill. 2) There is no memorable song. The film needed its own "Under the Sea" or "Colors of the Wind" to be the next level.
