Hey Rex, great setup you have going there. Just some suggestions. First, get a portable solar panel and battery charger such as goal zero and some rechargeable batteries. Nothing last forever, but a few sets of rechargeable batteries could keep all of you electronics going for at least a few months. I like olight USB universal battery charger and goal zero AA/AAA battery charger. Second, get a pair of two way radios, preferably waterproof and takes AA batteries and a set of throat mics. You might not be able to use radios regularly, but it's nice being able to radio back to basecamp of incoming trouble or request for help if you go off hunting or scouting. A radio that picks up FM/AM and short wave would be handy as well. Third, get some film canisters for your spices. It sucks finding out your cans of pepper and salt got wet or spilled in the bottom of your ruck. Fourth, get a 4x4 foot section of camo netting and weave some Paracord through it with carabineers on the ends to act as a gear net for storing extra gear and to camo the outside of the pack. Five, get a bottle of "NEWSKIN" available at Walmart in the medical isle. NEWSKIN is super glue made for would closure and it leaves a protective coating over the wound. works great for blisters. Also get a large tube of antibiotic ointment for small cuts and scrapes. Six, get a solar shower($8 at Walmart) or better a dry bag with a Barb and short hose attached to use as a dirty water bag. When collecting water just scope up and drag back into the wood line and attached the sawyer to the outlet hose and allow gravity to do all the work. Much faster then using the sawyer pouch and expands carry capacity. Seven, grabber all weather blanket. This is a 5x7 tarp with mylar on one side and olive drab on the other. String above biv sack, but below poncho to reduce thermal signature from drones or helos. Anyway, that's all I can think of at the moment. If I think of anything else I'll add on. Keep the videos coming and look forward to your next one.

Thanks Rex for this great series! Many great items to consider. Some good comments here as well. A few things to add (based on user's surroundings):
    1) Saw: SOG makes a nice one that comes with two swappable blades: one for bone, one for wood
    2) Leather gloves
    3) Pack Towel: lightweight, dries fast, good for body or gear that gets wet

One of the best things you can do with a bob is to put it on your back and hoof it to your point B. (or a simulated trip of the same distance and similar terrain) This will teach you quite a bit about what you need and what you don't need and how far you can expect to travel with the weight. Adjustments to load out, gear choices, physical condition, or maybe even route can then be made with the luxury of time that you may not have later. Obviously, you won't be testing your defense gear during the trial, but it may make you rethink it.
One thing that needs to be clear; a bugout bag is not the same as a bag needed for living in the wilderness indefinitely. (which is really not a good plan A or B) For example, I don't worry too much about taking game, fishing, or building fires with a bob. It's a lot lighter (and subsequently faster) to carry concetrated food that doesn't need cooking, or even a small stove. Efficient hunting and gear is stored at the location I'm headed to. Lighter is faster.
This video is an outstanding video to make people think about what they might need and what might be necessary in a bugout situation, and it's important to realize that everyone is going to have different abilities and scenarios.

I wrestle with this bug out thing myself. First I'm not the stud I used to be. Carrying my house on my back would kill me before the N.Korean would. I'm not in a huge city...nor near one. I know my neighbors who would help fight. It would have to be super bad for me to bug out...then where do I go? I don't have no secret bug out bunker. Scary subject.

Lots of good kit there Rex... as you mentioned, over the years a guy has to re-evaluate what has changes and update some of his equipment... A few years back I broke away from and old trusted friend ( Short Bolt .308 gun ) in favor of a more versatile weapon platform... A 16" precision AR with a 3X18 Leupold with the Tremor 2 Reticle , Aimpoint 2X 2moa dot ( no longer produced ), but great for movements when you need something better than a variable scope mounted on your defensive rifle. A Bolt gun is great for those times when your in an over watch or more stationary, but just doesn't cut it when you have to move. Along with this platform, a peq-15 and anpvs-14 for movements during low light conditions... Again, if your bugging out, your going to be moving most of the time and would be better equipped to handle those unexpected run-ins with an adversary with this more flexible equipment, especially if under certain circumstances it might be safer to be moving at night and stationary during the day... Another reason for the 5.56 alternative... just like the small .22 RF... way less weight for this very effective cartridge, and with a standard MK 262 or Tipped variant it still enables a good marksman to make hits out to and beyond 1,000 yrds. I almost forgot... I would hate to be carrying my " Primary Fighting Tool " in a Back Pack...! That's for Hunting not Fighting...
Kifaru makes a platform for harnessing a rifle at the ready outside the pack, or you could look at theirs and make something like it...

Pocket Ref 4th edition by Thomas Glover - The concise all-purpose pocket-sized reference book featuring abundant information on many subjects, hundreds of tables, maps, formulas, constants and conversions. Not optional, this book is a MUST HAVE.
Sparrows Lockpick set - Enter locked buildings quietly without breaking glass or kicking doors, opening padlocks.
Estwing camp hatchet/axe - Breaking/entering, processing firewood, making tentstakes/skewers, clearing obstructions in line of fire.
Coghlans featherweight camp/signal mirror - For hygiene/body inspection and long distance signaling.
HAM radio - comms in/out if cellular is down, monitoring weather/emergency frequencies.
Dry pet food or birdseed - a small ziplock bagful to use as bait while hunting.
Repellant/headnet - Prevent infections because fuck mosquitos.

I've found that Ziploc bags are a better option for packing your kit. The vacumn seal bags are great until you open them, then they are loud and pretty useless. Then everything in a waterproof sack.

Enjoy Your Video’s and talks ... as for your talks , since I haven’t seen everything you have recorded . I’ll ask a hypothetical question .. Say the world goes to shit . You and your significant other or one friend have to bug out . You see off in the distance a group of armed individuals trekking through the wilderness . Would you take a chance and greet them . Follow for a while to see if they are hostile . Leave the area without them seeing you . Wait for the right moment and challenge them . Wait till dark and try to take their weapons . Take them out . You don’t know what’s going on in the world . Or how many survivors . How the food situation is or will be . Not sure about illnesses or contagious people . Very interesting to know how you and your buds would deal with this hypothetical situation . Have you thought about sending people a hat or t-shirt with your logo for things you may find rewarding ....

This is a "No more than 500m from the car" loadout, to be honest. About 75% of this would be replaced by water for any scenario where you lose sight of the car you drove to the wilderness in.

Those MREs are far too heavy for the amount of calories. You're much better off using freeze dried food like the Mountain House brand. Other than that a very interesting perspective on a big out kit.

You don't practice with your gear unless it's for a photo op I'd say about a hundred yards at most is all you have ever traveled, most of the items in your pack have never even been opened. Not realistic I see where you're trying to go with this but not realistic
