The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES to its friends) may be over thirty years old, yet a good number of its games are still remembered fondly to this day, and held up as examples of gaming’s very best. With over 1,700 games released over thirteen years, the SNES’ offerings are rather lean compared to, say, the PS1’s almost 8,000 in just over a decade. But this was when games were made from the heart and developers were given free rein to experiment - and as a result, the SNES produced more industry-changing classics than you could shake a Master Sword at. Here are the 10 Best Games for the SNES.

I remember my ESO friends always asking me to play every time I logged into steam. I got tired of explaining I only have had a couple hours and just wanna play some Dark Souls! Haha ended up setting my profile to invisible. Fun game, but most MMO's start to feel like a job to me. I'm glad you're getting that Bethesda money!
I better see “The Lost Vikings” on here
You guys really need to redo this video quick smart with the FF3 entry un-botched. It's making you look like a laughing stock, showing footage of FF3 for the SNES (actually the iconic FF6) but talking about FF3 for the NES instead.
None of those words make sense together.
Whoever wrote that was smoking the sex number 469-20
If I wanted to play Elder Scrolls on my phone, I'd call the suicide hotline, because nobody in their right mind wants to play Elder Scrolls with touch controls.
Kids remember that: if your friends start talking about wanting touch controls on classic videogames, you should call someone to get them some therapy. That's called a "cry for help"
@@ajax4165all my MMORPG experience is just everyone using it as a chat room.
Uh oh, I think somebody didn't go back over the entry for Final Fantasy III because that is not the Final Fantasy III that should be talked about in this video haha
Your FFIII entry seems to be muddled up... You seem to be describing FFIII for the Famicom, but showing footage for FFVI (released as FFIII in the West).
Noob-ass mistake on their end. Whoever wrote the script def phoned it in.
@scottmacdonald8990 these are the same people who talk about Star Trek and Star Wars interchangeably. They know exactly what they did here.
This happens for them with that game for some reason. They forgot it on their “best games released in 1994” list as well
I was going to say the exact same thing! Especially when they had a side by side of 6 and 3 DS ha
Thank you! I was very confused lol
Your editor dropped the ball on that FF 3 entry 😂.
Everybody involved with that video did.
#5 turned into an actual Wild Card Entry because of how much of a blunder that part of the video was.
At first I thought the Final Fantasy III entry was trolling but it seems to be actual bad research
Yeah, there doesn't seem to be any irony or satire in it - it just feels like an error - if it were some sort of joke there would be a "verbal wink" thrown in there but it just felt like they didn't know what they were talking about
How did they let that happen haha BIG OOF
I think you are talking about the wrong Final Fantasy 3. The original FF3 was released on the Famicom, not the super, in Japan. Final Fantasy 6, which was called 3 in the US was released on the SNES.
Surprised Donkey Kong Country 2 didn't crack the top ten. Which, according to science, also has the best video game soundtrack of all time
You and me both mate. DKC2 is in my top 5 all time.
Imo the original Country holds up a little better? Just is balanced a little better difficulty wise. But that's just me and it could be nostalgia talking as well and not just facts
Doot dooo, dooooo, doodoot.
@@imjust2white stickerbrush symphony?
this would have been way better than fucking up FF3 🤣
Is it me or was the Final Fantasy III entry confusing at the beginning? It was released worldwide as Final Fantasy III when it was the sixth entry in Japan. The real FFIII would not come to Western shores until much later. So technically, it was localization at the time of its release that can cause confusion. Either way, good list.
They instead talked about the actual Final Fantasy III...which was released to the west originally on the Nintendo DS.
They got us to comment about it, so they won 😂
The SNES version of Final Fantasy III never released in the EU/UK fosho. It did have a US release so it certainly wasn't a Japanese exclusive.
@@frankbrodie5168 There was no SNES version of Final Fantasy 3. That's the joke. They said Final Fantasy 3 while showing Final Fantasy 6. Which was numbered 3 in most territories outside of Japan.
@@ravenebony2267 Yeah I'm from the UK and owned the US release of FFVI(3) from just after it's release. Cost me £65 and a 40 mile round trip to and from the import games shop. Sold it complete boxed, not quite mint condition, for £150 about 15 years ago.
Definitely a booboo on the writer's part for the video stating "not released outside of Japan." Hardly the crime of the century.
You should really pull this video and fix the FF6 gaffe. All we learned from this video is that Ben’s never played FF6 or he would have noticed the problem instantly.
Surprised Super Castlevania IV wasn't on this list
Chrono trigger and legend of Zelda a link to the past are my personal favorites
Your description of Final Fantasy III is absolutely perfect. Don’t change it.
It is as written in the history books
@@Sir_Psych One of the rare cases where it is true and not true at the same time! And both is right and wrong!
I love how all the top comments were talking about your big FF3 gaffe. Nice one there, guys
As I guessed most of the comments are how the FF3 footage is messed up. He's describing FF3 from Japan but showing FF3 in the west, which was actually 6 in Japan. Is this video A.I.? It feels like A.I.
8:58 Ok so who’s gonna tell them
Imagine knowing so little about the greatest Final Fantasy. Yikes.
Not the greatest FF not even close. Ff 7, 8 IV, and 5 are all vastly superior to the grossly overrated FFVI, which quiet frankly is boring trite and absolutely no fun what so ever.
The DKC series would like to have a word with the critics who are responsible for this list.
I’m surprised DKC2 and Mario RPG didn’t make the list.
9:10 Final Fantasy 3 was released in Canada/US in 1994, not 2006. I know because i played it and loved it
FF 3 was 100% released in Canada and the USA, it's FF 6 in Japan, maybe you English peeps missed out!
No Final Fantasy games were released in Europe (yes, including the UK...) until VII on the Playstation
@@occono3543 Yup, VII was the first that got an European release indeed.
@occono3543 No mainline Final Fantasy games were released in Europe until VII on the Playstation. The first Final Fantasy game released in Europe was actually a spin off - "Final Fantasy Mystic Quest" (an *EDIT* SNES game) was released in Europe as "Mystic Quest Legend" in 1993.
You didn't seem to notice he was actually describing FFIII for the NES, not FFVI, regardless of what footage the editor used. I mean, the plot description having nothing to do with the plot of FFVI should have been a big hint.
@ItsMeBarnaby you're right- sorry for that mistake.
Uau... How could a gaming channel mess up the Final Fantasy VI entry so bad?
Lack of Knowledge, Laziness to fact-check, confused by Pre- and Post-"Numbering Problems Era" of Final Fantasy....and probably a few other reasons come to mind
My SNES is 5 feet behind me connected to my CRT as I start this video.
Same here, just that it's 10 meters instead 😋
I'm going to go ahead and say no one at TripleJump has played, or even knows what the SNES Final Fantasy III is.
Pretty obvious
He delivered his script with such conviction though.
Um, how did they botch the FFIII thing so hard? They literally described FFIII instead of American III, which they show, which was actually FFVI and definitely came out in places other than Japan even though the “III” version was Japan only. This is such common knowledge that even if the writer didn’t know if the VO guy is a gamer he’d know or whoever the producer or editor would have spotted it. This went through like 5 levels of production and literally no one noticed? How is that possible on a dedicated video game channel?
Edit: and again the FFIII they actually are describing is a NES game anyway that came out like four years before the game they think they are talking about
"Final Fantasy III wasn't released outside of Japan." Yes it was, it was released here in the US as III when it was originally VI.
"It was remade for the DS." No, that was the original Final Fantasy III for the NES. Final Fantasy VI still hasn't been remade.
Then Ben starts describing the plot and I realize he actually is talking about Final Fantasy III for the NES! 😄
Street fighter 2 was the biggest game of the early 90s. I refuse to believe that isn't a top 10 release.
It is if you discount the JRPGS getting hyped by people who love JRPGS (and no one else).
That game was absolutely huge and everyone who had a snes would get that game. For me it was the first time to be playing an arcade game on a console and it was just as good. I’m really surprised it’s not on this list too.
People obviously rave about the RPGs but The SNES had such a strong library overall. I loved SuperBomberman with multi-tap and 3 mates.
Bold of Bethesda to assume ESO players have 11 friends lol
Uh, Trials of Mana was released to the west about 6 or so months before the remake as part of the Collection of Mana. If you want to experience the original version, this is your best bet.
Also, you described the NES and canonical Final Fantasy 3. The FF3 released on the SNES was FF6 in Japan and FF3 in the west until they fixed the numbering system in the early 2000s.
Um..... the Japan only F 3 was a Famicom game, not SNES, and you're showing footage from 6.
You really fecked up this ffiii entry.
This channel keeps getting worse. Whether they didnt even realize Final Fantasy VI was released as III in the US or they intentionally put the mistake in there to promote engagement in the comment section, its pretty bad. Used to be one of the last quality gaming channels, now they just virtue signal and copy and paste Metacritic lists. Real bummer. What Culture 2.0
What do you mean by “virtue signal”?
@RichardMajor86 bringing on Ashton for DEI (I'm not against women as games commentators but they should at least be funny and insightful). Started saying boys, girls and others, and in a recent video about moments in gaming they discredited gamergate as a bunch of racists throwing a fit, as if the politicization of gaming journalism isn't a serious concern
@@carmawarlock8455 does it hurt you in the fee-fees when you see a girl?
1 minute is all it would've taken to fact-check that FFIII entry 💀
Anyone else catch Antman in the comercial? Or did everyone only notice the final fantasy gaff?
What happened to the writing staff? You really messed up Final fantasy 6. Not knowing it was released as FF3 on the states
Massive fail for your Final Fantasy III entry. Do you guys even watch your own videos? You described Final Fantasy III, which was a game released for the Japanese Famicom (not the SNES!) while showing SNES video footage of Final Fantasy III (titled Final Fantasy VI in Japan). 🤦♂️
What the f u talking about final fantasy? Are these video AI generated in any way.
No, they just obviously didn't know that FF III canonically in Japan always was and in the west was rebranded to VI, and instead they went with the story summary of the ACTUAL, REAL Final Fantasy III, which wasn't released to the west until the Nintendo DS era.
@@Justforvisit so this was a very poor job. Lack of effort and care about the content they spread.
Something something Final Fantasy III
I think the Best 101 Games For The SNES is in order.
Every SNES Game Ranked From Worst To Best.
"Me playing Seiken Densetsu 3 in 2002 via an English translation fan romhack on an emulator" 👀
This video inspired me to go back to my SNES Classic.. I like how its repertoire is so balanced as far as styles.. Question is whether it’s Yosh-I or Yo-Shi
Every Nintendo console deserves two "Best 10" videos: one with only Matio fames and one with the rest of its library:)
Definitely didn't expect Super Metroid to make the #1 spot!! But I'm also completely fine with that. Incredible game. As good now as it was back then.
My first ever games console. Super Mario world, Street Fighter 2, Starfox, F-Zero, Killer Instinct and Sim City were my first games.
ahh the fun childhood memories
Shoutouts to...
Starfox
Donkey Kong Country
Street Fighter II
Killer Instinct
Mortal Kombat 2
Wolfenstein 3D
TMNT IV
Battle Clash
And while I would never expect it to grace a top SNES games list, I personally think Jurassic Park is underrated as an early action/survival horror/open-world "where fo I go?" game
i had to look at the date, make sure it wasn't april fools, when the first entry on a video called "10 best games for the SNES" was a game that never came out on the actual SNES
Pretty big blunder with entry #5. The script's talking about the wrong game lol
It is to the eternal credit of the quality of SNES games that I would only put 2 of your list in my top 10 SNES games. (FFIII and SMK)
Zelda LTTP would be close but not top 10. I never got on with Chrono Trigger due to already being a Final Fantasy fanboy (fanman I suppose. I was almost 30 by the time Chrono Trigger released.) by the time of Chrono Trigger's release.
Super Metroid I always found to be 'meh?' Maybe it's just me.
Greatest system of all tike ever. Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Link to the Past are all works of art.
Ugh the fact that Donkey Kong Country isn't on this list is a damn shame! I have some of my fondest memories of childhood playing those 3 games on my SNES! You hit a lot of the greatest in this list but on my list DKC2 & 3 would have been near the top for me.
Am I one of the only people who really does not like "Super Mario World 2", but who loves the first game?
I agree with you on that one. SMW2 just didn't click for me, and SMW is one of my all time favorites.
I love MK II , Super Street Fighter II , The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Super Mario World , Super Mario All-Stars, Doom, Street Fighter II : Hyper Fighting , Killer Instinct
Instead of using average scores you took from the internet, how about a list based on your own actual opinions? Also, Total Carnage should've totally been #1.
Oh Ben...you done goofed this one.
P.S. How'd you get footage of both Mario and Luigi playing in the castle simultaneously in Super Mario World? That shouldn't be possible.
There are bazillions of mods for Super Mario World out there, one of the most if not THE most hacked video game of all times, probably one of those hacks / mods or maybe even an official later re-release where that's possible, since of those there also exist quite a lot, adding a few features here and there.
@@Justforvisit You'd think they would've just used SNES footage for a list of SNES games.
At 10:24 they show Mario and Luigi on screen in Super Mario World, am I remembering this incorrectly or was there 2 player co-op in SMW? I thought that game was turn based 2 player like the NES series. I might be wrong here its been many years.
Iirc it was turn based in the original and the co-op was added in a later version, but I don't know which one. Maybe in All Stars? Maybe in a re-release on newer console?
For my taste somewhere in there need to be Secret of Mana & Secret of Evermore and a DKC game (propably part 2, but I really like all 3).
There is a serious lack of Super Mario RPG and DKC2 on this list.
100% agree with Super Metroid at #1 though.
I would have put Secret of Mana on here instead of Trials but overall, great list!
I bet they don't even know that Super Mario Bros 2 was ACTCHUALLY a game called Doki Doki Panic
I’m surprised Castlevania IV isn’t here. Glad Super Metroid is #1 though. If you experienced this as a teen when it released it was the best! I agree with everyone else on the FFIII/VI part. We had this in America.
I understand that your FF3 entry/name is correct: The game launched as Final Fantasy III in USA. But in the video you said that it was never released outside Japan - which is incorrect.
Final Fantasy III on SNES, was Final Fantasy VI in Japan. The Final Fantasy III your describing was on regular Famicom not Super Famicom. The whole reason I watched this list and you get it wrong lol. Also it should be #1 and it's better than Chrono Trigger.
Yeah- this is pretty embarrassing.
It’s still rated highly in most rankings in the west and Japan and one of the best FF. It was ranked 3rd best FF and around 33/100 best ever games in a national vote for a Japanese channel in 2021. For a 30 year old game to have that kind of lasting power is phenomenal.
Final fantasy 3 got a remake as final fantasy 6 on the ps1 in the final fantasy anthology since the third game outside of Japan is the 6th one
Not to pile on but wanted to explain my thumbs down: that FF3 bit is unforgivable.
I'm so happy that you included Seiken Densetsu 3 or Trials of Mana on this list. The game was a masterpiece by Squaresoft (Square Enix). When I played this as a teenager, I was shocked how good the story, art, graphics, and characters were. I had borrowed the game from a friend who translated into english, and when I asked why it wasn't to the west, he answered because Secret of Evermore sold like crap.
Crazy there's no Super Mario World or Donkey Kong Country entry.
Seiken Densetsu 3 has been my favorite game for more than 20 years! I give it 100/100 =D. Glad it made this list =)
My favourite SNES game got done dirty in this video :( Final Fantasy 3/Final Fantasy 6 on the SNES is one of the best RPGs of all time. It's too bad the script talked about the NES Final Fantasy 3 game. It is a bit confusing that FF 1 was the same world wide, but then FF 2 and 3 didn't get released outside Japan, which made FF 4 get renamed 2, then FF 5 didn't get released outside of Japan, and FF 6 was renamed FF 3. They at least corrected course with FF 7 and onward.
Wow, can't believe you haven't done this before now : )
Best NTSC-U Super Nintendo RPGs By Year
1991 Soul Blazer
1992 Final Fantasy IV
1993 Secret of Mana
1994 Final Fantasy VI
1995 Chrono Trigger
1996 Lufia II Rise of the Sinistrals
I recently won a Super Nintendo in a raffle, and I thought this would be a good way to see which games I should pick up for it.
Sadly, despite Triple Jump being based in the UK like I am, a lot of the games on this list - especially the JRPGs - never came out here, making the video a tad useless to me as a buying guide. 😢
Some additional games that could have made the cut:
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Legend Of The Mystical Ninja
Super Ghouls And Ghosts
Donkey Kong Country
Contra 3
Shadowrun
Super Bomberman
Did absolutely no one in this entire office ever play either FF III or FF VI? Insane mistake
No Super Castlevania 4 ...sad
Amazed street fighter 2 turbo missed out
Got your final fantasy games messed up. Played the Famicom version on an emulator and its a solid game
Someone needs to be sacked for that FFIII debacle.
Civilization on snes is awesome. It is the original game with graphical tweaks and fixes the game breaking overpowered chariots. Hard as balls
Great job with the FF3 (FF6 in Japan) entry. Crack work by your writers. Who let that nonsense past editing?
The SNES in a nutshell: 1st-party Nintendo titles and JRPGs.
And it was fantastic. Also loved street fighter 2, 4 player superbomberman, mortal combat, the Mega man games, super castlevania, super tennis…
Man- there was so many great these games on the SNES.
The "ff3" entry was very confusing haha
Yeah your FF3 entry is wrong.
Just starting but I'm SO excited to see Earthbound at #1!! Love you guys/gals/others!!😊
Yall should do like a 2 player snes games go. My sister n I used to play a lot of Mickeys Circus Adventure and Goof Troop.
Oh boy how do you make a mistake so bad as getting final fantasy 3 and 6 confused ff3 is an NES game the SNES game is is final which was called final fantasy 3 because the west didn't originally get to or free but we did get 4 and 6 survey just decide to change the name around because otherwise people will be confused by why they jumped straight to 4 and 6
Please, pay attention to the intro of the video before you start complaining that your favorite game is not on the list
Except it is contradicted by adding final fantasy 3 which is an NES game describe the NES game and over all mess it all up
Well my favorite game aint in the list😫😫😫
My favorite game is on the list but it's the wrong version.
Wrong Final Fantasy III
Super Mario Bros the lost levels was the US version of Super Mario 2 (Japanese Version)
Did Chat GPT write the script?
Yeah the "Final Fantasy III" entry is completely fucked up and should be taken down. The game you are describing is "Final Fantasy III" on the Famicom, not "Final Fantasy III" on the SNES.
This is a bad enough mistake that I'm just going to block this channel ...
The number one spot going to the exact right game.
Oh Team Triple Jump, you and your ker-azy research blunders. I'd say 'never change' but no, please change. Please. It's getting worrying now :/
Is Samus Aran’s last name pronounced “ah-Ran” or more like “Aaron”? I’ve always pronounced it “ah-Ran” and have never bothered finding out if I’m right.
The final fantasy 3 thing here is so full of wrong information it kind of ruins the whole video.
Who's only here for delta games
One of first remakes of games too Mario Super all stars
First!, love you guys and your content, and the SNES, keep up the good work!
How about a list that's the 10 best games for the SNES that doesn't include crummy JRPGs
Most people loved them, i guess. Or maybe the held up better than other genres.
@makasete30 Nah. They were extremely nisch. You could go to anyone's house and you'd find platformers, fighting games, beat em ups, shoot em ups, adventure games etc. But you'd only find JRPGs in houses where the owner was a fan of JRPGs. They were never pick up and play-games that appealed to everyone.
They don't know the difference between Final Fantasy III (famicom) and Final Fantasy III/VI (snes).
we want lists based on your opinions, not statistics.
