How does the HRU work?

All Seafarers know the HRU or the Hydrostatic Release Unit and how it works. But, do they know how it really works?

@@amirkargari4883 asked myself the same thing. There's no clear description of what it's intended. But, i think it's for the air inside to escape once the diaphragm is pressed. That's my hypothesis 😅
