I'm reading some of the replies to this video-- which shows a profound reverence, respect and love between two successors of the Apostles--and it is filled with the venom and hatred of the Deceiver. This is scandalous! Our Lord prayed that we might be one as He and The Father are One, yet we bicker and stab each other in the back via an impersonal medium. Why don't all you Catholics who hate the Pope and you Orthodox who hate the Patriarch find a nice dry cave somewhere and hate each other and the world in silence until you wither away or the Lord returns in Glory; maybe in the mean time the Holy Spirit will teach you Charity and Humility. Either way you'll be out of the way so that the work of Our Lord can continue unabated. Lord Jesus Christ, have Mercy! Blessed Virgin Mary, Theotokos, Mother of the Church and Queen of Apostles, pray for us!

As an Orthodox, I think it’s normal to have relationships with other Christians, including the clergy, so why talk so ugly about Patriarch Bartolomeu? These meetings between Francis, the bishop of Rome, and the patriarch are not for finding solutions and compromises for the sake of a formal union with Rome, because we all know that a true union will’ be only at Parousia, they are just meetings, because it’s something normal to not isolate from the other Christians.

But I do not I believe, what you have said that some of the Catholic teachings to be in grave error, NAY! & not Peter the Apostle. louie casper It´s not up to Pope Francis alone. The Orthodox must agree and it is a difficult task because of the different Patriarchates with different points of view. Also some doctrinal issues must be resolved like the famous "filiquoe" clause in the Creed. However we must continue praying for this union since it was what Christ wanted.

@Shao Yu Mai Wang I respect that and I have great respect for the Orthodox tradition. Yet I hope you are not rejecting christian unity to preserve your identity. History shows a unified faith accentuated through diversity. It was how the church grew. But differences also became a scourge when the church grew beyond a certain mass.
There is much consolation that the Orthodox tradition by and large still holds the 4 marks of Christ's church. And the Catholic church continues to fight to preserve the orthodoxy of Christ's teachings in a secularised world.

Here is a synopsis of our exchange, you are confused. You wrote that the Church can breathe with both lungs if the eastern orthodox and Rome were joined. I informed you they cannot unless the Orthodox recognize Vatican council I. The Holy Spirit declared in that council that all souls must be joined to the papacy for salvation. For a Catholic to recognize the orthodox as in the Church the orthodox must accept this. My first post was removed because people didn’t like this truth and dogma.

zulmme in that verse Luke22:31-32: [31-32] Jesus' prayer for Simon's faith and the commission to strengthen his brothers anticipates the post-resurrectional prominence of Peter in the first half of Acts, where he appears as the spokesman for the Christian community and the one who begins the mission to the Gentiles (Acts 10-11).

We know that we are inside the Truth of Christ , we know that inside the true Church we stand on the path of salvation, we live in truth and expect eternal life, everything inside this Truth. Even if sometimes Patriarch Bartholomew is wrong, we must pray to God to gives him wisdom and not muck up Church’s image by insulting him. Heretics are all those who have thrown their cross and left the Church because of Patriarch Bartholomew’s errors or other clergy, and from outside they try to destabilize the church. Orthodoxy is a joint effort of living life according to truth, not an individual isolation in Christ.

***** As far as I know in the Gospels, Peter was the head of the 12 Apostles and our Lord has given to Him the "keys of the kingdom" as Mathew 16 teaches us. Even Paul seeked communion to the pillars of the Church, to Peter then to the rest as Galatians Chapter 2 would mention. James was never mentioned first in the gospels, its is always Peter then the rest of the 12. Peter was the final person to spoke in the dispute in the Council of Jerusalem as to accept uncircumcised gentiles or not...se Acts of the Apostles. They even waited for Peter to go inside the tomb first during the ressurrection. Peter was the first one to proclaim that Jesus is the Son of the Loving God. Whoever is the head does not depend on geographical locations whether its Jerusalem, Istanbul, Alexandria or Rome it is about....to whom Jesus Chrsit has given the "keys", hence Petet is the prime minister of charity for all Christians and not James. Jesus said to Peter 3 times..."do you love me", Christ said...feed my sheep.

The pope exists because he has been a stabilizing influence in Rome when the Western Roman Empire came crashing down and the Romans needed an authority that transcended their new Germanic barbarian rulers. East Roman Empire sought the Bishops of Rome's help and to a degree fostered the independence and growth of the new papacy when reconquering lost Western Roman lands. If any East Roman emperor nipped the papacy in the bud then the Catholic Church would not have existed. The claim that the Pope has rightful reign over all of Christendom is absurd.

Infact nearly 80,000 baptismal certificates were issued by Church authorities to Jews which helped save there lives. And Archbishop Gerlier of Lyons and Bishop Thias of Mantauban, their protest was backed by a highly effective rescue and shelter campaign. 200,000 lives were saved because of this.

We can recognize some cultural or human values in the religions of our co-religionists as manifestations of their aspiration towards the same God.Ecumenism is to consider other religions as God's revelation, to consider that Christ by his concrete and transcendent universality contain them and exceeds any cultural and religious form,so it means an absolutization of relative, which leads to relativization of the absolute,by adopting some ecclesiology concepts and practice of others religious.

You write “institutionalized shame, guilt and anxiety which inherently prevents people from thinking, thus, keeping them ignorant from what is true.” Religious truth cannot be discovered through thinking, encumbered by shame or not.

I don’t believe either that Roman Catholics are truly heretics, although I believe some of their teachings to be in grave error. The differences developed over time and as the result of Roman see’s separation from the Church, transforming Christianity into a political ontology, which is peculiar to both Catholics (the pope assumes the pontifex maximus title) and later on to protestants (the Lutheran and Calvin city).

There is only one revelation, and that is Christ and His teachings. That is exactly what is heretical about the ecumenical movement. The Apostles did not compare pagan practices with what Christ taught and come up with something relevant. Salvation is through the faith and belief in Christ, only.
Bartholomew has met with Vatican leaders and popes before. How many times can he be in the wrong?

This is all so academic. For the schism to end one of two things has to happen. The Romans would have to deny the supremacy of the pope and accept the Holy Spirit does not proceed from Jesus. Or the Orthodox recognizes the papacy and that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and Jesus. A political alliance is not unity or an end to the schism. These two conflicting notions cannot be determined by men but only by an infallible source. Does the east have an infallible oracle?

      Unleavened bread
      Purgatory
      Immaculate conception
      Infallibility of the Pope
      Filioque
The grace of God(what is it?)

I know also that Roman Catholics consider us schismatics, saying that orthodox have separated from the Church, by the fact they recognized the bishop of Rome as the first among equals of the pentarchy and not above all, as the pope would have liked it. After the see of Rome separated from the other four see, primer inter pares become the Patriarch of Constantinople. That’s why Orthodox are more exigent when it comes to Patriarch Bartholomew and critique his slip toward a harmful ecumenism.
