What a great find this was, far too few people today have experienced train travel as it was when first comporting with air travel. The ability to move from one’s sleeping. Berth into fine dining cars and. Bar cars to pass away the travel time in elegance and style.
It is unfortunate that this place has fallen on such hard times, it is a throwback to kinder, more gentle time, when travellers were not crammed in like sardines but knew their patronage was appreciated. I have traveled in those well appointed trains with real kitchens and chefs, tables set with fine linen tablecloths, silver plate cutlery,, and private staterooms...and I miss the quality of that kind of transportation.
You two did a great job of documenting the end of an era, as this car was taken off the rails and purchased to offer its patrons a glimpse into a past long gone, along with its gentility. Hope you two are having a great weekend doing what you love and do so well. Peace out...and stay safe out there.🖤🇨🇦

Train cars are typically built using exceptional carpentry the world over. Might account for its longevity and lack of decrepitude.

Great job with the footage and content as usual 😊 this actually made sad... i cant believe people drive by this historic, beautiful train car EVERYDAY and not one person has considered doing something with it. If i had the money that it would take to clean this place and open it back up i totally would. I would ckean it up but design it the exact same way it was.
I really enjoyed this, i love old trains 💗

The building is an old dump. The car should be saved though the restaurant conversion destroyed a lot of historic integrity.

@@MilwaukeeF40C If a person has enough money, old rail cars can be attached to an Amtrak train for use! They're called private cars.

There's no way this building could be restored in any way; it's been empty, and left to the elements for too long. It would have to be completely demolished unfortunately. However, the train car could probably be salvaged, and restored.

100% AWESOME on the meter. So nice to see “what was”. Sad that it is laying to waste. But as in all history, Mother Nature takes her back one way or another. I love the old school 80’s RED! I remember it fondly from many a dive bar visits.
    Thanks Mucho....still obsessed...pr.

It is a shame something like this doesn't exist anymore. Families need these places to come back so they can have chances to experience all the fun and excitement like the generations before had. Places like this made wonderful memories and family bonds were made here. It is heartbreaking to see it just rotting away. I wonder how long this place had been open. Would this idea work with today's kids? HI Kristy !!! Can you please use your pictures to make calendars? I'd buy one especially with the pictures of this restaurant.

Thank God you are not in Detroit. I opened up a Pandora's Box with my comment on that one.
Those coach cars are remarkable and they would make a great home with a little imagination and a lot of money. And Kristy, I don't do instagram but just to see your beautiful face and smile makes life a little better. Like the lyrics from an old INXS song, "There is something about you girl, you make me sweat." And Robb, you are a great guy but you don't make me sweat.
Cheers and have a great weekend.

AT [8;51-19;59] MY LATE GRANDPARENTS HAD THAT SAME CARPET IN THEIR OLD APARTMENT,
HOW COULD I EVER FORGET SINCE MY GRANDMOTHER WAS VERY STRICT ABOUT ANY KIDS SITTING ON HER EXPENSIVE SOFAS, SO ME MY BROTHERS,SISTER AND COUSINS WERE ALL SEATED ON THE FLOOR TO WATCH TV OR PLAY WITH OUR TOYS.
THE REST OF THE APARTMENT APART FROM THE LIVING ROOM AND BATHROOM WAS OFF LIMITS WHILE MY GRANDMOTHER WATCHED US LIKE A HAWK FROM THE NEARBY KITCHEN.
ANY SUDDEN MOVES IN THE WRONG DIRECTION AND SHE OPENED UP A CAN OF WHOOP-ASS ON US LOL....
THAT CARPET SAVED US FROM A LOT OF ASS-WHOOPING'S GROWING UP.
SEEING IT IN YOUR VIDEO I WANT TO GO OVER THERE AND HUG THAT CARPET HA-HA-HA-HA...PEACE GUYS...MEEOWS ۩

What a shame this has closed down and is in such a sad state of disrepair. I would love to go to a place like this when it was open to have a nice meal in a lovely setting by a creek.

  • @KyleBrownx
    @KyleBrownx 4 роки тому

I actually ate here as a kid right before it closed and know a bit of the backstory to it. My dad grew up in a town nearby and thought it was cool. The restaurant was actually open a very long time, back when railroad lines ran next to the river and the road it's on was the main route before the highways existed. From what I was told, they used a crane to lift the car off the tracks and over the river to where it is now. It was quite popular in its day but it had been failing in its last 10 years open. When my dad saw that they were closing he took my family there about a week or two before they closed. It closed just before Christmas in 2006 and we sat at the first table facing the road and were the only people there. It was really strange being the only guests for dinner at restaurant that size. It was falling into disrepair back then and I imagine that also played a part in its closure. So weird to have actually been to a place like this when it was open!

OH WOOOW Rob!! That place is huge. Beautiful location, sad to see to let sit and rot. Too bad someone doesn't get it, gut it out and start from a shell. Idk maybe it's too far gone. That one area is LOADED with black mold. I wish you guys would be more careful about stuff like that. Sad but, awesome find. Have a great weekend you two! The slanting floors almost reminds me of my floors lol they slant from the middle to the left and right, not too super bad but, enough 😂 I'm not near water, just a 100 yr old house on the Florida sand 😂

this might’ve been stated already and i think you guys touched on it a bit in the video but i think they abandoned it because of the river. i recently took a geology class on flooding and rivers are not the best place to build next to. sucks but that’s how mother nature works. however, it’s an awesome idea and i love anything near a large body of water but i’m sure the floods and erosion were really damaging the foundation of it 😔
really cool spot. love the idea of having a coffee near the flowing river.
