Sympathy points: seeing someone "attacked" on tv always makes him more endearing to the public. What he didn't consider was his natural repulsiveness and "guilty as sin " face. Also he was unaware of the format of the show.
Ian is just great! It‘s one thing to be forcefully honest and straight forward in writing or when talking ABOUT people… It‘s another to be so forcefully honest and straight forward when talking DIRECTLY to people.
I don't know much about the backstory to this guys, so I'll leave an opinion out of this... But I do have to say, "Lord Conrad Black of Crossharbour" is a freakin' awesome name.
Conrad Black was convicted for 3 counts of fraud and 1 count of obstruction of justice , but the Supreme Court found that the charges given to the jury was 'unconstitutionally vague', and ordered a review of his convictions. It did NOT find him innocent or dismiss the charges. The review of his convictions eventually overturned 2 of the 4 convictions, and he was resentenced to 42 months for one count of fraud and one count of obstruction of justice. Hence his pretence of being acquitted is completely ridiculous.

Personally I think Ian is hilarious and I'm glad we have people in fleet street like him who keep the satirical (and both actual and physical) 'Eye' on the political scene. Provided there members of the fourth estate like Ian we won't entirely descend into the tabloid hole we are generally known for in this country.
It's interesting to compare this clip with the episode... makes you realize how much editing there is. I wonder what the original footage was like - probably a lot was taken out even in what made the episode.
@David Gonzalez Being 'pardoned' means he was guilty. You can't be pardoned for something you never did in the first place. It confirms Conrad's guilt.
Much as I respect Mr Hislop, he should have known better. After his experience with giving "a fat cheque to a fat czech" he should know that courts and verdicts have very little to do with justice.
is black guilty of what he was convicted of? i have no idea. but just because you were never convicted, doesn't make you innocent. just because you were convicted, doesn't mean you're guilty. there are people who are innocent and get convicted anyway.

he is usually extremely good at debating if you look at his talk with paxman but in this situation he cant compete with comedians because the debating requires a different kind of knowledge and skill
