OMG ME TOO!!! I just heard the song on TikTok and I had a flashback and came to UA-cam and typed in the song followed by “puppets” HOLY 💩😂 it’s traumatic nostalgia 😆
That was my exact thought process! I’m so shocked that all the people here had the same traumatic experience I did 😂 Green Hilda haunted my nightmares as a boy
Looked this up because it terrified me. Glad to see I’m not the only one who has the same “saw-it-in-music-class-and-was-terrified-of-Green-Hilda” horror story. I remember thinking that she was in my closet or something.
I can still remember my music teacher showing us kids this in either 2nd or 3rd grade! This and "Hansel and Gretel". *Edit* After all these years, Green Hilda still creeps me out...and still reminds me of Fiona from "Shrek".
I remember watching this in music class back in 2nd grade. I had nightmares of that green girl. She was so scary. Anyways, for years I thought I was crazy cause I never knew the name of this show and no one knew what I was talking about. I was like "I know I wasn't dreaming about watching this!" Lol
Elementary school music classes were wild. I remember my music teacher having a composer of the month and at first she talked about Bach, but eventually at the end of the year she was just talking to us about the Eagles and how they all hated each other.
I have thought about this for many many years. I'm in my twenties now but I saw it when I was in maybe first grade maybe second. I wasn't scared the way many people were. But It did stick with me and I have spent many nights looking for it. I think the last time I looked was four years ago but at least once a year I think about it and just last year I asked around at my old elementary school and no one knew what I was referring to. But this is definitely it! I'm so thankful you posted it. I always wanted to rewatch it. For a while I thought it had been a weird fever dream or something really wild I had come up with but that I felt was real. Thank you thank you thank you
The same thing basically happened to me. I started thinking it wasn’t real and just my imagination. It’s almost otherworldly seeing it now after so many years
I was never scared by it either but I knew it was weird, haha. My mom got it on tape at a curriculum fair and my sister and I watched it pretty regularly as kids, I loved it
@@sofiarodriguez6768 did u go to bryon kibler in WA? I remember watching this internally freaking out but the rest of my class was fine. Took me 15 years to find this again🤣
I'm so glad I finally found this! I remember watching this in music class as a kid, and being terrified of the storm scene with Green Hilda. I've been looking for this since I understood the Internet.
I just flashed back to all the nightmares I had as a kid, Green Hilda has haunted many of my dreams growing up. xD I've been looking for this for so long. Thanks for finding and uploading this video!! You're amazing!
I just spent like 30 minutes googling creepy puppets and shit trying to find this just to realize I’m not the only one who was forced to watch this in elementary school
i have been looking for this video for around 15 years now. I was highly convinced that this was a weird fever dream that I had. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! lol
The amount of nostalgia this just brought me. Last time I saw this was in elementary school. Now I’m a senior in high school. Man, I wish I could go back to those days.
My father owned many of Gamble’s productions on VCR. Growing up in a musical household, I watched these plays as a young kid. Pretty sure the first time I saw this one was when I was 3 or 4. And god DAMNIT it scared the ever loving shit out of me. I still get uneasy every time I hear that laugh and see her face. It’s like I turn back into that little kid again. I’m a professional musician now. Hopefully I do not have to play Hall of the Mtn King at any point in my career 😂
Saw this in art class when I was in elementary school. Had flashbacks to it because of one of the songs from it also being used in Mouth Dreams for Ain't. Just looked up 'puppets in the hall of the mountain king' and it came up.
I have been terrified of Green Hilda since I first watched this as a kid, but I have to admit I laughed when the camera pans over the kids reacting in sheer horror at her appearance on stage.
After I watched this I had to go potty but I was scared to go!!!! My mom took meh I’m not a baby though LOL it just gave me bad ideas so I’m 8 in real life wut the heck
I didn't see this in music class. My music teacher mom showed it to me. While it kinda scared me, I actually thought it was cool. Hearing In the Hall of the Mountain King has given me nostalgia ever since.
This is giving me Vietnam flashbacks. The shots from behind the puppets don’t help, either. I guess they’re supposed to immerse you but all they do is reinforce the fear that the puppets are moving on their own because the legs of the dude are supposed to be there. I’m glad everyone else is as scarred by this as I was.
Wait…so this *wasn’t* a weird fever dream I had as a child?! Edit: 11:37 holy f- that was actually one of the coolest puppetry-effects I’ve ever seen! That transition was so fluid!
Everyone saying that this scarred them from elementary school and then worried that they made it up somehow is validating my experience and I appreciate you all 😭💖
Thank you, thank you. I heard the music as a child of the 60s and played this video (VHS) for my daughter in the 90s. She just found you and harkened back to a pleasant memory of us watching this together.
I saw this guy when I was 11(?), in LA... 1989? Same puppets, same everything... I didn't want to go because I thought I was too old for "puppet shows", but we had free tickets, so there I went... It was really actually pretty cool, but what I remember most is really having to pee as soon as it was too late to get up and move around... I'll always associate the music with that feeling of having to pee at a bad time.
I remember watching this in Elementary school too!!! We would always watch these weird videos of the composers. It didn’t personally freak me out. I was more intrigued lol 😆
This has been in the back of my mind since elementary school but did anyone remember when it was like kids playing drums then a green hand print showed up
I remember seeing this back in 2004 on a CRT TV when I was in grade 1. It made for quite a bizarre memory, but I remember being fascinated by the complex marionette controls. Some of the introductory narration coming back to memory, "Henrik Ibsen" and all. We may have watched mainly for general education regarding puppets as opposed to a focus on the music. The main thing I learned from that "lesson" was that I find traditional marionettes rather "hideous".
This confirms for me that marionettes are truly magic. I understand that it be solve this in the wrong mind space right a really young age it could be scary. But by the looks of the kids waving at the end some of them really fell for the story and characters.
OH MEUSOSH WHENCTHE DANCING GUY AT 17:01 TURNS INTO GREEN HILDA THAT FUCKED ME UP AS A CHILD. also i completely forgot about how the whole segment with the dancing women is so sexual 😬😬
My god, I remember watching this in Elementary during music class! I was so fascinated how they could move the puppets so breathtakingly and the story to me was very interesting!
We watched an old slideshow of an animated version of "In the Hall of the Goblin King", where the teacher would narrate the story a bit then click the next slide, it was terrifying. Her version was him slowing running up a massive dark stone staircase as more and more goblins gave chase until they all erupted out the top like a wave and then danced. I forget all about it, but hearing the song still makes me a bit uneasy.
Hey everyone. I just uploaded another Jim Gamble Production. This time I was able to get a copy of The Nutcracker. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/JnBq1TLoTUo/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for uploading this! It feels so weird watching this again after seeing it in elementary school. I never understood why people were fearful of Green Hilda; she was, and still is, a great character in this story.
i finally found this, i knew that unexplained anxiety i felt from hall of the mountain king existed for a reason. i must have repressed that it was so effed up looking but i knew it was unsettling
Does anyone remember the Peter and the Wolf video? There’s that part in it, where the wolf ate the conductor- and Peter was a violin for some reason. Both of these moments traumatized me as a child.
i had completely removed this memory from my brain and then last night he and my friend were talking about things that scared us as kids and i dug this shit up from my deepest darkest corners of my consciousness and flipped the fuck out. she sent me the link and i couldn’t sleep.
We watched this in music class and this kid named cam said green hilda was beautiful and months later he got married to a model magic green hilda my friend made for him!!!!!!
I'm very glad to see I wasn't the only one traumatized by this vid as a kid in elementary school. First grade me got so scared of In the Hall of the Mountain King cuz I would think of Green Hilda XD

i remember this in 1st grade and i saw this in music 2 i was deadly afraid
I could not stop laphing
That stuff gave me nightmares!
Omg me too!!!!! Horrific
I’m shocked by how many of us had to watch this in like 1st grade because of our music teachers and just never forgot about it. 😭

Alexandra Rickheim meeee
moi! but like then i forgot the name and looked for it for 7 years straight and i think i regret it...
I used to think Green Hilda had a parade in my room at night
I hadn't seen this one, unfortunately. Where I grew up, I was quite used to puppet shows like that.
Is this show from 90s?
I've seen this in music class in elementary school. I didn't feel comfortable with Green Hilda myself. She gave me the creeps.
Her appearance and face were so ugly. It made you wanna look away like Medusa from Greek mythology.
OMG!! I have been looking for this for so long! I swear this thing has haunted my dreams for years, ever since my dang music teacher made me watch it!
Hays~ my teacher too!my music teacher let me watch too my teacher is Mrs.Sarti
Hays~ same
Shoutout to the music teacher who showed me this in elementary school and I still remember it 20+ years later lol

WHY DO MUSIC TEACHERS LOVE THIS SO MUCH
That deer puppet is frickin adorable. Don't ever remember watching this in music class. I'm glad. This is NIGHTMARE FUEL!!!
Cute!
ive been looking for this FOREVER and i’d always watch it in music class in elementary school
Why did they have us watching this is my question. Its so strange lmao

Honestly my music teacher from elementary school showing us this and The Magic Flute proved that whole class was a huge fever dream
I have been looking for this video FOREVER! I THOUGHT IT WAS A FEVER DREAM CAUSE NO ONE REMEMBERED IT.

If you are 23 and up you remember this from music class you are old my friend😭 my music teacher the goat for putting this on 😂🔥
I have been terrified of Green Hilda since I first watched this as a kid, but I have to admit I laughed when the camera pans over the kids reacting in sheer horror at her appearance on stage.
Like, who thought showing this to children was a good idea?!
ur gonna tell me other people watched this in music class as a kid?? I thought it was just my teacher holy hell

Ragen Morgenroth I remember my music teacher drawing a lot of attention to that puppet. She kept pointing out that it was made from an egg.
Spaghetti-Spider Its so weird, especially because the second belly dancer has a full body haha
Do we all have some strange memory of watching this in elementary school? I seriously thought it was just me
I remember watching this in music class and crying so hard that I was scared to go back to school the next day
Why did I randomly remember this almost two decades after seeing it? Should out to my first grade musical teacher.
