If I remember correctly Cicero’s reaction to Caesar’s death was anger because they didn’t kill everyone. Which was pretty spot on considering Antony had Cicero’s head and hands nailed to the doors of the senate.

If there's one thing you can always count on James Purefoy for is to take his role seriously and give a good performance.

True. He basically stole every scene he was in in that HBO thing.

James Purefoy is a great actor. His best role is Solomon Kane. Wish he got to make more.

hes not evil in the slightest, hes one of the all time roman legends, he kicked an insane amount of arse then met his waterloo, as happened to most of those romans- antony put it all on the line as was expected of a roman nobleman in politics and war, but octavian beat him, cest la vie. a roman who liked a drink and to fornicate, party and indulge himself- well i never.

Cato was, Brutus's uncle, and I am pretty confident that during a senate hearing (this was during the Catiline conspiracy) Caesar was in good standing with Catiline, and Caesar was given a message, Cato saw this and demanded that it be read to the forum, it was then revealed that the message was from Cato's sister and that Caesar was sleeping with her.
I also find it interesting that Brutus stabbed, Caesar, in the groin.

@@TonyAlloa Yes, that was very below the belt from honourable Brutus, in multiple ways.

antony , JC and octavian ALL had total physical courage, they all put their lives on the line repeatedly. they were playing the highest stakes game there is and antying up your life was the price of entry,

Excellent post. Basically a put up, or shut up stance. I love Roman and Greek history, but it is all a little fuzzy to me.

    JC saw something in Octavian

With out seeing the rest, didn't he try to steal Octavia's money from JS? Who later became Augustus. My Roman history is sorley lacking.

well more or less- caesars wealth was going to be divvied up and antony wanted as much of it as possible, so if he could get some of what was gonna be octavians inheritance he had no qualms about taking it.
