It's between Jordan and Gretzky. I would give the edge to Gretzky because his records are impossible to beat.

Anyone who picks Jordan can only back it up by saying hes more'' Popular'' than Wayne..People who pick Gretzky back it up with ''Statistics'' MJ has a mere 12 NBA records Wayne over 40 NHL records..Wayne 1st in all time Points MJ 3rd all time in points..its not even that close..Wayne wins

nneevveerrmmoorree jordan has way more then 12 so don't talk like that hockey doesn't need as much athleticism as basketball

Jgc 2310 hockey needs more athleticism. It's harder to skate backwards than it is to run backwards. You use all your muscle groups in hockey. Basket ball you just need some cardio and some good leg strength to slam dunk.

99 had 1700 points as an oiler think about that 66 had 1751 points in his career

What do Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, and John McEnroe all have in common?
They all appeared in Bo Jackson's commercials.
Making the all star game in two different pro sports in the same season is pretty remarkable. And don't forget that Bo won the Heisman in '85, so it's not like he was doing nothing from '82-'86.

No one comes close to Gretzky. If he had of stayed in Edmonton with that team in tact he would have 8 rings.

Looking at the records of Gretzky (check wikipedia) the only person who can come close to being considered a serious challenge is Mike Tyson. Micheal Jordan's stats are not really as impressive as Gretzky's. Gretzky had 215 points in one season that is 4x the point total of most other super stars of that period.

Dose the title say best athlete or most dominant sports player because jordan has more athleticism in his left hand than gretsky had in his whole hand

the best athlete of the 80's?then why is jordan here,he turned pro 1984 and the bulls where were just coming up.
in place of jordan u have to have Magic Johnson or Larry Bird,u could'nt NBA without mentioning Magic and Bird in the same sentence.
call Jordan for athlete of the 90's.

Jordan wasnt even the best player of 80s in NBA... If we are talking about only 80s, i will go with Mike Tyson... what he did from 86-89 unbelievable, he was viewed as superman.
If we are talking about legacy that these athletes have left, i would say Jordan is the one! The best!
