You do know that Daddy's Lessons is off her Lemonade album. The Dixie Chicks loved it so much that they started covering it on their concert tour. When CMA's contacted Beyoncé to ask if she'd perform it at the 50th celebration, Beyoncé had a condition that the Dixie chicks will play it with her. They haven't been invited there since they criticized Bush Jr. for his presidency. They got together and did a pre recording of them doing the song, so right after the show aired, Beyoncé released the sale of it so people could buy and upload it right away. The CMA's b*tched up and took this performance down on their website because too many racists jerks were leaving racists and bigoted comments about her performing country on their show. CMA's said that Beyoncé called them and told them to take it down so they won't cause controversy. I think if they had the balls to put her on the show for ratings....cuz let's face it, if you put her on your show, her fans will watch and your ratings skyrocket, then they should have had her back and the Dixie Chicks. None the less, she got her money and advertisement for new fans that didn't even know about that song. She was paying tribute to her country roots too. Country music was founded in R&B (rhythm and blues), gospel and negro slave songs. But country music listeners today want to ignore that fact and deny it.
If I'm not mistaken country music first started taking shape from black communities/performers in the 1920s. Many artists of the time would co-write songs with black artists but because of the obvious racism none of the black pioneers of the genre were ever given the credit. 😮💨
Good.. the chicks...were already not liked very much bc they didn't support George Bush jr.. so... they double didn't like it after they brought beyonce... I love love love love beys new album. It's tear inducing amazing ....
@@OphepheVanessait’s not disrespectful. I love both but Beyoncé is so versatile and she’s a star rated vocalist on top of being an amazing performer. It’s deserved
@@OphepheVanessa I mean ofc she wouldn’t she would never lol 😂 but I think the argument can be made for both and I don’t think it’s really disrespectful. She loves MJ and he definitely loved her when she was coming up and it shows that she took his torch. But I think it can go either way
The fact that this whole performance is pure activism (on many different levels) makes it even better. Seeing the angry people in the audience is no coincidence, they knew this performance would ruffle feathers and cause an outcry. Beyoncé is not just a pop star, she is a complex, conceptual, multidisciplinary artist with undeniable impact not only in the music industry but in the world. A lot of people won't realize it until she's gone. She will leave Michael Jackson level impact on the world once she's gone.
It's so funny because the women in the crowd are LOVING this, because they know what Beyonce and The Chicks are at the tops of their respected fields and this was a BARN BURNER of a performance. The men hated it because The Chicks were 'trouble makers' and Beyonce was black, and out performing them.
Yep, lots of controversy. Many country music artists & listeners didn't like Beyonce performing at the CMA's. Some said she isn't a country artist so shouldn't have had such a spotlight at a show to honor country artists. But Chris Stapleton performed with Justin Timberlake & everybody loved it. They said she was too sexy but Shania Twain performed in some pretty sexy outfits leading to many female country artists to follow suit & nobody's complained. She's black & singing country? Well, Charlie Pride, Ray Charles & Aaron Neville sang country & Darius Rucker does today. I'm sure some have never forgiven Natalie for saying she was ashamed that then Pres. Bush was from Tex. Then, after shunning the CMAs for years, The Chicks come back with a black "pop" singer?! I see sexism here, too. How could these 4 WOMEN have had the effrontery to do such a thing?! Again - Chris & Justin? Even a song about shooting somebody couldn't make everybody happy!
Beyonce is from Houston Texas half of the people that made country music is Not from the south and second country music comes from the black community third if Beyoncé wants to dance around in a tight dress so be it she has every right to be there
Beyoncé experienced extreme racism after this performance because they didn’t want her to perform at the country music awards. I think you should check out more of Beyoncé maybe formation (music video) or beautiful ones/sex on fire live
Her bringing in the Dixie Chicks, and in Texas of all places, was a monster statement! (look up Dixie chicks controversy if not familiar). Props to her for doing that. And yeah, amazing performance from the queen as always.
Sal, I’m so glad you did this reaction, you would be surprised how the Country Music artists in the audience didn’t know how to react to this performance, but I thought it was great, Country and Rhythm and Blues definitely go together
He's making that face because a lot of people did not want her there! And I believe there's some controversy w/ the Dixie Chicks as well....Beyonce faced a lot of racism and sexism due to this performance, from saying she was too sexy in her performance to saying she shouldn't be allowed to perform country music, etc. But they killed it anyway!
Yeah the Dixie chicks were basically blacklisted after the critisism on W.Bush. and the Iraq war. This performance was more than just a brilliant piece of art, it was quite the statement. Obviously not very well recieved with the bigots, racists and assholes.
Glad you enjoyed it. Daddy Lessons was also on MMXVI by the Dixie Chicks, the Chicks played during their 2016 concert tour. One fact Beyoncé is top female Grammy winner, Alison Krauss is #2 they swap place every year or two. The country artist in the red shirt was Kenny Chesney, he wasn't enjoying it but his date sure was. During the 2016 Chicks Tour they did this song as well as Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U". The Chicks had swore never to perform at the CMAs again due to the reaction of the country community along with other things. Beyoncé called them up to help her with a performance they agreed even though it was the CMAs. This performance was edited out when originally released by CMA as they claimed they didn't have the rights to all of the songs. Weeks later it was released. When the performers are walking down to the lower the stage, the snippets are from the Dixie Chicks' song "Long Time Gone".
I love how Chicks used part of their song with words: Now they sound tired but they don't sound Haggard, They've got money but they don't have Cash, They got Junior but they don't have Hank... Total middle finger to CMAs and country music industry... because country music today is pure horse s*it.
Long a time Gone in general too as a reference to The DIXIE Chicks being gone for a while. What a poignant moment in its totality. How anyone could be mad at this performance and her presence absolutely blows my mind.
I don’t know what people were making a big deal about we need to come together and LOVE 💕 ONE ANOTHER and RESPECT EACH OTHER FOR GOODNESS SAKE WE ARE ALL PART OF THE HUMAN RACE ✝️🙏💕
Her performance was amazing. The facial expressions of country music artist in the crowd looking displeased was due to nonsense that had nothing to do with her. Mainly Racial/Political nonsense not her performance. 👍👍🤣🤣
This is why some people need to lesson to some of her albums she has sprinkled country or rock in certain song letting those know that she can sing in that genre, this is not her first rodeo in any genre. She was doing rap while in Destiny's Child.
A lot of people didn’t enjoy the performance and we all know why. 🇺🇸 I’m not a super beyonce fan but she puts on a show every time! The haters haven’t stopped anything for her.
Rewatching this back she kept telling people to clap in the crowd and they weren’t clapping :( this is why she felt unwelcome especially with CMT removing her performance online bc of the racist that were upset (they put it back up after 24 hours). Thanks to them tho we got the new cowboy carter album ❤

Sounds very jazzy. Well performed song…but the only thing Country about it was the line “ my daddy said shoot.” 😂
