When I was a child in the 80s I thougt this movie was funny, but it wasn't until I graduated from college and worked as a glorified"executive assistant" that I began to TRULY appreciate its genius and humor...an all-time classic! Thanks for sharing the trailer.
Look, I got a gun out there in my purse, and up until now, I've been forgivin' and forgettin' because of the way I was brought up. But I'll tell you one thing: if you ever say another word about me or make another indecent proposal, I'm gonna get that gun of mine and I'm gonna change you from a rooster to a hen with one shot! Don't think I can't do it. oh i love this movie viva dolly
One of the lines I use all the time is from Margret Foster, the office drunk. Whenever someone is going to Charlie’s to get drunk, she always says “atta girl!!”
I was quite young and working in my first office job when this movie came out, and I can attest that this was so spot on, especially the brazen sexual harassment and job discrimination. Many of us could relate to it, and the fantasy scenes of giving the boss payback was great! No wonder it was such a popular movie of the time!
On this day in 1980 {December 19th} the movie "9 to 5" had its world premier... The title song was written and performed by Dolly Parton and nominated for an Oscar for 'Best Original Song' {lost to "Fame"}... And on Nov. 29th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on Feb. 21st, 1981 it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} and spent a half-year on the Top 100 {26 weeks}... On Jan. 24th, 1981 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on the Country Hot Singles chart... Also peaked at #1 {for 1 week} in Canada...
When making this great movie they needed another to play a part in the movie and Jane she wanted Dolly Parton a country girl because they didnt know each other but Jane loved her music and wanted Dolly and Dolly said yes and this movie became the biggest hit and with Dolly's song 9 to 5 and today Dolly Jane and Lily are the best of friends!!
Great movie... My favorite line is when a flustered Lily Tomlin tells the police officer who wants to give them an escort (!), "FORGET IT MACK, WE DON'T HAVE TIME" and speeds off!
I'm a guy and I thought this movie was hilarious. I just saw it on TV. When they think they killed the boss and took the wrong body from the hospital was the best part.
Growing up with this movie on VHS was great. I didn't understand the ture meaning behind the movie. I just know it was cool and funny. Now that I have a job, it's crazy how accurate it really is. Especially the song.
My favorite is Dolly Parton's fantasy, when she's sexually harassing the boss. He does such a great job. When she ask him the name of the perfume and he says, "stud" all embarrassed. LOL.
This is my first and last comment stating that something has brought me here, but here it is. Not to annoy the UA-cam audience or ruin the 9to5 series. I just feel that I needed to comment on this video stating that House M.D. did in-fact bring me here. I originally saw this show posted on a plaque outside stage 14. Now, House M.D. is up there, great job guys.
Someone please upload the scene when all three are in the car pulled over by the cop. So funny! " My God did you hear that? She's not feeling very well.. I've got a dying woman on my hands and you wanna look for a short in the trunk? LOL
That may be true but that's a moot point; this was made in 1980 long before any of that and on top of that, that doesn't really have a thing to do with the movie. ;-)
Had the pleasure of c n the black version of Guys + Dolls play n the 70s n Philly, starring Robert Guillaume(Benson) +Norma Donaldson(The Jeffersons) R.I.P NORMA
within the same sequence, the one that cracks me up is when Lily says, "I've poisoned the boss. You don't think they're not gonna fire me for something like that?"
Its not even 9 to 5 anymore companies dont want to pay us a lunch break that is forced anyway. Now it is 8 to 5 or 9 to 6 or whatever. If I my schedule is 8 to 5 that mean I have to devote those hours to your company and because I get an hour lunch does not mean I can do whatever the hell I want
Jane was making this movie and they needed to play the part of the sexy one and Jane saw Dolly that was just a country girl and a big hit in country and Jane wanted Dolly in the movie and Dolly said yes and the movie because the biggest hit and Dolly wrote the song for 9 to 5 and it was a number 1 for weeks in country and pop..Today Dolly.Jane and Lily are the best of friends!!
I honestly hated when Mr. Hart said this to someone he was talking to on his office phone: "Listen to me. Ajax is my deal, so you get your money when I give it to you. And don't ever call me at this number again." That was a straight up dick move on his part! He has ABSOLUTELY no right to treat people like that!
Exactly, Mr. Hart was a total dick and yeah, he shouldn't treat people like that. By the way, I have this asshole boss at my job who treats everybody like shit all the time and I can't stand it. Wouldn't it be good if me and my three female coworkers could plot revenge on him like Jane, Lily and Dolly did? I sure can relate to this.
I WAS 10 WHEN I WENT TO SEE THIS GOOD OLD DAYS YES THEY HAD THERE BOSS ALL TIGHTED UP , JESUS SAVES FOR WHOSEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALLBE SAVED ROMANS 10-13
Sooooo disappointed, going to see Dolly here in Australia and looked up the setlist and shes not singin fricken 9-5:(( or Islands in the Stream...... I want a refund!
dude nice job but i dont think you captured the essence of the movie as good as you could have. the movie has strong social implications (dont worry i had to double-check the meaning of the word on gARgle too, ha)
in this movie, why did Dolly Parton (Doralee) tie Mr. Hart to a chair in his office right after she told him that he is rotten and evil to the core? What did he do to deserve it?
He was blackmailing her to sexually submit after his protege Roz was snooping in the restroom, overhearing our terrific trio talking about Violet's putting rat poison in his coffee instea of sugar substitute (boxes look almost the same) by mistake - or was it - since she was fantasizing about oing it when they were @ oralee's smoking pot after the workay from hell. Naturally, spy/tattler/backstabber Roz makes sure to tell Hart all that took place.
When I was a child in the 80s I thougt this movie was funny, but it wasn't until I graduated from college and worked as a glorified"executive assistant" that I began to TRULY appreciate its genius and humor...an all-time classic! Thanks for sharing the trailer.

The 80s version of Office Space. Each as brilliant as the other
I agree with the kudos to this movie...this is in my top three of ALL TIME! Uh...Violet, honey. Could you come here for a second?
¡Omg! It's Grace and Franky! This is awesome, i gotta watch this!
Great movie... My favorite line is when a flustered Lily Tomlin tells the police officer who wants to give them an escort (!), "FORGET IT MACK, WE DON'T HAVE TIME" and speeds off!
I saw the musical, now I REALLY want to see this movie!
What would be funny would be a recut trailer to make "9 to 5" look like a horror movie.
One of the greatest comedies of all time. Second only to Caddyshack. Dolly Parton is awsome.
I LOVE DABNEY COLEMAN! XD
It's Grace and Frankie, just a little younger
Dabney Coleman is one of the most underrated actors of all-time. I loved his work in the Slap Maxwell Story and Buffalo Bill.
I'm a guy and I thought this movie was hilarious. I just saw it on TV. When they think they killed the boss and took the wrong body from the hospital was the best part.
Happy 30th Anniversary to a delightful movie.
Loving this!!!
I so love this movie!
Growing up with this movie on VHS was great. I didn't understand the ture meaning behind the movie. I just know it was cool and funny. Now that I have a job, it's crazy how accurate it really is. Especially the song.
2:09 love this part.
Horrible bosses 2 brought me here lol
My favorite is Dolly Parton's fantasy, when she's sexually harassing the boss. He does such a great job. When she ask him the name of the perfume and he says, "stud" all embarrassed. LOL.
i love that texan accent of dolly
This is a great movie from the best decade for movies the 1980's

"I'm going to change you from a rooster to a hen in one shot." I've never been on farm but I know what she meant.
No disrespect to the movie - I love it, too - but MAN I'm glad movie trailers have gotten better than that.
They should make a reunion stream!
2:09 love this part.
Everybody treats me like a bastard at a family reunion!
Someone please upload the scene when all three are in the car pulled over by the cop. So funny! " My God did you hear that? She's not feeling very well.. I've got a dying woman on my hands and you wanna look for a short in the trunk? LOL

That may be true but that's a moot point; this was made in 1980 long before any of that and on top of that, that doesn't really have a thing to do with the movie. ;-)
That's damn right! Go Dolly!
Great line (but not in this great trailer) - janitress: Hey, Vera - we got another stiff in the john! LOL!
I'm writing that 9 to 5 is my favorite comedy film. I'm also writing that on Thursday May 16, 2024 Dabney Coleman died at age 92.
Had the pleasure of c n the black version of Guys + Dolls play n the 70s n Philly, starring Robert Guillaume(Benson) +Norma Donaldson(The Jeffersons) R.I.P NORMA

I am with you on this one especially when you work for jerks n with them. Maybe we should get a job @ Dollywood she treats her staff good.
I take it you didn't get the job as trailer editor?
9 people were changed from a rooster to a hen with one shot!
Its not even 9 to 5 anymore companies dont want to pay us a lunch break that is forced anyway. Now it is 8 to 5 or 9 to 6 or whatever. If I my schedule is 8 to 5 that mean I have to devote those hours to your company and because I get an hour lunch does not mean I can do whatever the hell I want

in this movie, why did Dolly Parton (Doralee) tie Mr. Hart to a chair in his office right after she told him that he is rotten and evil to the core? What did he do to deserve it?

Not an original trailer
Talk about bad music editing.
Dolly Parton treated that boss with NO RESPECT in this movie!
She gave him the same respect he gave her and the other women.
Worst trailer of all time
