I really liked how Rinrin didn't try to do Connor in a coordinate that was stereotypical lolita and instead worked with his comfort and style. I think it worked way better to show how the style can be used to express creativity than focusing on conforming to a specific Lolita ideal.
I think Connor's comment about the UK & conforming is valid. The reason why punk originated there and has such a strong community is because of the intense pressure to conform, just like how the intense pressure to conform in Japan resulted in Harajuku fashion. While all communities have some pressure to conform, they all have varying degrees of this pressure.
Silly little tea rant here: I believe the blue tea in the video is butterfly pea flower tea, which is a edible flower commonly used in some teas, as a natural dye, and natural ph indicator which is why it chages color to purple. The lemon is acid which causes the change.
Malay traditional cake also used butterfly pea flower as a source of colouring to create the blue colour effect and occasionaly used to coloured a rice dish
Connor is always so respectful to other subcultures, especially since he lives in Japan. I also loved his video where he became a VKei band member for a day :D so wholesome how committed he is in showing appreciation ❤

He speaks using the standard british/recieved pronunciation accent (typically associated with upper classes and the south of england) however I believe he's spoken before about how this isn't his natural accent on the podcast he does. its important to remember that the vibrant alt scenes in the uk are Reactionary to the culture that connor described. they are huge and vibrant and influential in that area for the same reason lolita and other alt styles are huge in japan. that doesnt mean that japans politeness culture is suddenly void. these styles are a response to the culture that limits expression, and i dont think its right to call connor unfair for adressing these faults - especially when punks and goths face major discrimination in the uk to this day
The thing with UK alt fashion is that there is a strong pressure to conform socially because random children will bark at you in the street and call you emo for wearing something as small as black jeans. Some guy chased me down in a train station while I was in cosplay (admittedly in an attempt to get me to join a club but...).
I was trying to think of a way to word this. As an alt person in the UK, most days of the month I'm gonna dress conforming because I wanna be left alone in public. Black leggings and a hoodie most days then when I get like... a few confident days out the month where I don't care what people say to me, then I'll put a look together
It depends on where you live as well. I go to Newcastle often and there is a *lot* of alt fashion in public, even on a casual weekday. A goth friend told me it's a lot better than when she lived in Bristol.
@@Lhene9 Yeah i'm in a village and a woman shielded her children's eyes and crossed the street while giving me a dirty look when i went out in a pretty lowkey casual lolita coord.
As a British gothic and old-school lolita (and grew up wearing gothic fashion) , I've had rocks thrown at me due to how I dress... and I live somewhere with a good alternative music scene. It's rare I see other alternative people let alone jfashion people. Chav culture does force people to conform. If fashion wasn't my special interest I'd have been bullied out of it. I don't feel like Cdawg was wrong when he said that British people just try to conform. Think about the Sophie Lancaster case.
I feel like it's definitely changing now, but I've also been harassed in public due to alt fashion. I wear lolita so i do expect it, but this day it was me in lolita and three other people in other alt clothing walking about a city - we literally got followed around for two hours by these two boys (not only were they A LOT older then us, we were in our mid teens at the time, but they were also saying some really gross and questionable things about us). It took us hiding in a busy shop for them to finally leave us alone.
When Connor talks about keeping the outfit, I imagine it might be that because he doesn't typically wear egl he perhaps intended to sell or otherwise give the pieces to other lolitas once the video was completed. I agree it would be very unusual to return the pieces to the store after wearing them for a full event, perhaps they might get used for modelling in the future because that's rinrin's line of work? That's my thinking about it.
I'm really happy to hear you talk about more masculine styles of lotlita that aren't ouji. I'm nonbinary and have short hair, and I prefer to dress in a more masculine style in my day-to-day life. As much as I love the super feminine lolita styles that I wear, I have also developed a style of lolita that is more masculine. It's hard to describe without photo examples, but I look for jsks that incorporate construction elements like built-in vests or buttons down the front that mimic traditionally masculine clothing and style them with things like caps, jabots, and bishop-sleeve blouses. The resulting look is distinctively more masculine than what you typically see in lolita while still being recognizable as lolita fashion. I have long wondered if there is a name for this, ad it really does feel like a proper sub style of lolita. Would love to see you talk more about options for styling lolita in a more masculine way, if it's something that you are interested in!
This is what I've been trying to do with my lolita style so it's really interesting to see someone else going for the same thing! It feels much more like "me" to try and style lolita in a more androgynous way. Jackets are my best friends fr
CDawg is such a cool dude, and you can immediately tell when he starts feeling comfortable in the clothes. That Moitie outfit with the harness and brown shirt is SUCH a good look on him! As for my lolita goals, I think I'd love to find my local community. I still have a few dream dresses I'm hunting, but overall I'm not sure.
I think the push to conform is what leads to these strong alternative fashion subculture, since those who do want to rebel through their clothing have a stronger sense of community. Kinda like how Japan has a huge conformity culture thing going on yet is the birthplace to a lot of really iconic alternative fashions
As someone who was immensely deep into punk fashion and history as a teenager (especially the England 1977 scene), I get where he's coming from. While on one hand, yes today England is a huge influence in the alternative fashion scene, it's not what's mainstream. Even to this day, English fashion is not Punk Fashion. English culture is hardcore "Do Not Make A Scene". Americans aren't as strict about those rules, especially in major cities. Americans love making a scene :)
If you walk around in the UK you barely see any alternative people. The majority of people do conform. If you don’t people will shout things at you or you get attacked. It’s not easy to be alternative in the UK at all and I barely ever see any alternative people in public anymore. Maybe a bit more when I was younger during the scene/emo times. Also the thing with British accents. There are so many different accents in the UK and they aren’t an indicator of ‘class’ at all. For example an Essex accent is often thought to be a ‘common’ accent (I don’t agree with this). But Essex is a very expensive place to live & has become unaffordable for working class people. Just one example but I hope that helps a bit!
Maybe it’s because I just watched CJ the X’s video on fashion, but I think I know what the person in the interview was trying to get across when they said “character.” Like, in fashion there’s often this idea of reaching towards a platonic ideal in your head. You have an image of what the perfect example of this style is in your head, and this applies to any style whether it be “british punk circa 1980”, “greaser”, or even “college professor from oxford.” Your goal, in order to demonstrate your own taste and skillful styling is to be as close to that ideal in your head. This ideal is you, or at least a version of yourself you would like to be, but depending on how you approach it, yes there could be enough disconnect for “character” to be the word that comes to mind when trying to describe this process off the cuff. 18:30
tbf, i would not be surprised if the fact that there is such a strong pressure to conform in UK society is perhaps why alt fashion has such a rich history there- i've heard japan is similar in that way re: how gyaru was started
I think UK has a strong alternative scene in small sub bubbles, but overall you will probably get harassed for wearing alt in public, especially in a group. I live in a fairly big city where there’s a lot of alt people and we still get harassed at comm meets. Emo, scene, goth etc is fairly common here and generally ignored, but lolita (especially sweet) stands out a lot and draws a lot of attention. Smaller towns it’s pretty common to get harassed even wearing emo.
I would say yes, the UK can be very conformist in appearance standards. I live in south England and the worry of verbal or physical altercations with strangers over my appearance is definitely still there after my 15+ years in alt fashions and subcultures. There’s definitely the most leeway for wearing darker colours in alt fashions here - if I’m in a head-to-toe black outfit, I’m generally safer. When I wear anything bright, and especially pastel, it’s a pretty different story. Most UK people outside of the big cities are dressed in black, navy or earth tones like greens and browns, so it stands out in their minds when someone does not dress like them. Love the video Lor, great range of topics to talk on all together, and love the call back to the scene / emo video (that I was also in!) 🩷
this is so true! i’m in the uk and mostly wear normie clothes just in fun pastel colours and the way people react to me wearing like pink shoes or a cute pinafore dress is WILD lol
On the UK and conformity thing, alternative fashion like punk, emo, and metal styles are really only a thing in a handful of cities (notably not London) and many other subcultures appeal closer to mainstream clothing or high fashion aesthetics. It's absolutely an alternative fashion heartland, but to those not already involved in alternative subculture of any kind its pretty rare to see or interact with.
I have large hips too and the biggest problem I've had is BLOUSES! When they reach even four centimeters below my waist, I'm suddenly in the realm of the unbuttonable 🥲
19:45 - I think what he meant about maybe keeping it is because he sometimes make auction livestreams and auctions off different things he bought for videos and streams (ie. cosplays, stuffed toys from claw machines) for charity
Since Connor himself is a British , of course he would insert a British slangs especially in his jokes , of course can make American audience puzzled with the slangs , especially with context issue
As a trans guy who wears goth Lolita / visual Kei fashion, I do understand struggling to find something to wear that is fem but doesn't trigger my dysphoria. I do sew a lot of my clothes to save money, I think eventually I'm going to start selling some things I make when I can make cleaner stiches/get some new presser feet for my machine like a ruffler to save time because ruffles are SO time consuming. I'm a CDawgva viewer and I watched this video not too long ago and I really liked the outfit, just wonder what shoes he wore with it since I know he mostly wears slip on sneakers lmao X3
really glad to see you cover this video as a long-time viewer of the both of you!! connor has some garbage opinions about innocuous topics that he's personally interested in sometimes, but in the end he's usually really respectful and open-minded when it comes to things that are important to other people. i was really happy when his video initially came out because i knew that it would get a generally positive response from you. :')
19:52 i think that they actually purchased these pieces but maybe if Connor (CDawgVA) didn't want to keep these clothes Rin Rin would give them to a friend or something
You didn't get what point Conner wanted to get across with the " playing a character " statement, because he is 100% right. Although in recent years self expression has become less of an eye turner, you will at the very least be recorded and posted on the internet as a bullying technique for wearing anything that remotely resembles alternative fashion. People are undeniably rude and will judge you for something as stupid as having a fringe. Most people try their hardest to not stand out so they can fit into society. It wouldn't be surprising to get beat up by a bunch of men 2 times your size for being dressed in lolita fashion. Every place has different pressure to conform to a certain standard and to what they would consider normal. In Japan you will see so much more freedom of expression when it comes to fashion compared to Europe, it's a culture shock, honestly. I myself am part of the people who are terrified of wearing what they truly want. I get harassed, bullied and ridiculed by classmates and strangers enough as it is. At least to the eyes of an outsider, America looks so much more tolerant than where I'm at 😥😥
i have to admit that i was waiting for your reaction to his video, i adore Connor ya he is very respectful, and he adores dresses so ya he was vibing in that dress
In regards to the comment about subcultures in England vs him saying English ppl tend to conform I do think alternative subcultures do generate and flourish in particularly conforming cultures such as Japan and England.. an ALTERNATIVE is as needed as the conformity is heavy so he’s not being inaccurate in a sense
As an english lolita, I think we all owe Lor a collective apology for traumatising her so much. That accent tangent is so painful to watch; its really not that big a deal and, frankly lor really shouldn't have to walk on eggshells about an accent. You're cute as ever lor 💓 luv ya.
I love that Lor tries to be respectful all the time and I kind of relate to her overthinking 'am I doing the right thing, is this the respectful thing to do right now'😅 So I kind of appreciated seeing her be worried like that, even though I know it's not a good feeling when you experience it. Felt like representation in a way😂 As for doing English accents (I can't speak for any other nation in the UK) - we have funny accents here. I understand the appeal to tease them a little, or shy away from them too haha. I personally wouldn't be offended if somebody attempted my accent so long as they weren't doing it to mock my community, but my accent isn't well known so I don'tneed to worry about that really (It's a rural one) Oh but I certainly appreciate the lack of overused tired jokes being repeated like 'bo la wa er' or 'shtewpid innit' because those ones may actually be mocking working class people lol
@h0td0gwater not going to lie but given the grand scheme of things, unless the accent being mimicked is clearly being used to mock people, I genuinely don't see the issue especially as we in the Uk mock each other’s accents all the time. Is it cringe to watch? Yeah but its not actively harming people (and before people ask, people have two stock accent jokes about where i live that i absolutely get each time I say where I live so I'm speaking from experience). Context people Context. I swear some people have zero Context literacy and thats the biggest issue that this actually highlighted.
The UK is getting more and more obsessed with being what considered "normal". When I was a kid people just let others dress how they want, so long as it wasn't revving something g they shouldn't. Unfortunately, we are being influenced by the extreme America that doesn't seem to value the joy in differences. At least from what we see in news and media from the states. The UK has become a pretty hateful place 😭
Having the whole disclaimer abt mocking British accents then dismissing Connors opinion on what British ppl wear was kinda funny to me cuz like,, i think a British man would know abt how brits dress 😭😭😭
In defense of the "character" idea, while larping isn't the same as dressing lolita by a long shot, adopting the mindset of a lolita Persona of sorts can help with newcomers trying to ease into the community and help them work out which substyles would work for them. and after some experimentation with what helps them feel comfortable , then they can learn to drop the persona and begin incorporating fashion into their actual wardrobe and only bring the persona back out for special occasions.
17:40 for me, my fear/discomfort comes from the possibility of having attention drawn to me that i can't control. if i'm nearby, people looking at the singer might also notice me, and i don't want to be noticed unless i'm prepared for it. it's the same reason i get nervous around mascots, clowns, and fursuiters. they draw attention, which might then spill off onto me when i'm not ready for it. (i also have severe second-hand embarrassment issues, but it's more the potential for the singer to be embarrassed somehow that stresses me out. you know, a feeling of "you are doing something vulnerable and doing it really well but there is a non-zero chance someone will decide to ruin this for you oh no.")
Wonderful explanation of Japanese sizes are not the only options. When I visited years ago, I couldn't find my size in ANY clothes, even a T-shirt, height was as much of an issue as other measurements.
You can call a macaron a macaroon. Macaroon is the english spelling, it's not specific to the type of macaroon like people think it is. English speakers switching to the french spelling for french macaroons is a relatively recent phenomenon.
100% get you on the irrational "pls don't sing to me" ick. I don't get it either but I've always hated it. (But I also don't like listening to music with English lyrics which is one major reason I like Kpop and hate that English songs are getting so common... (for me I think it's mainly a language cringe/lyrics processing thing, if someone sang to me and I didn't understand the lyrics it would still be embarrassing but probably a lot easier for me to handle 😆)
YES!! I get the discomfort of people singing live, but I feel more desensitized to the discomfort now that I have been a public school general music teacher for 10 years. I don’t feel the same way about instrumental musicians. It is because the voice is a very personal, very intimate instrument, and the addition of lyrics and words elevates that intimacy, more than someone playing a guitar or a violin or piano; a physical instrument is like a buffer between the performer and the audience somehow, and with a vocalist that distance has been removed. Performances are a very social engagement, and are very personal, especially if you are an audience of one or a few. You lose your anonymity. But this is why live music is very special. It *is* very personal on a level that you are never going to get from a recording, and to absorb it you have to let go, and let your guard down, which does take practice.
I know that there's definitely a lot regarding personal style for lolita but having a guide to being more polished once a decent wardrobe has been obtained would be nice.
I love this man!! I was so excited to see him transformed into EGL fashion. I hope CDawg does it again, it really suits him. Btw the blue tea is peaflower tea and the acidity in lemon causes a chemical reaction that turns the tea pink. It’s also a pretty common combination at tea and boba shops.
Lor I COMPLETELY get you on the aversion to people singing/performing live, and I don't know what that is either😅 I don't watch stand up comedy, I don't like to watch videos of even my favorite singers singing when I already know I like their voice, I get anxious even watching live sports. I'm just so worried something is gonna go wrong lol
Hey as a working class Brit thanks for caring about how the stuff you do impacts classism in the U.K., it’s a very nice breath of fresh air from the usual experience
17:27 omg same!! for me there's a sort of "uncanny valley" for performing. if it's unserious enough, I don't tend to mind it (ex: someone singing to themself while doing another task and not paying attention to anything else). if it's a more professional/grand setting, that's also fine. but that middle road?? where it's mostly casual but you're also supposed to be paying attention to the performance?? NOPE, feels awkward. I also feel bad because I tend to get the feeling that the performer is trying to show off even when that is NOT their intention.
10:20 Kind of a personal anecdote: it's interesting to see how attitudes in egl have changed. People were outright mocked and dragged for not wearing makeup with their coords back in the 2000s. You simply Did Not go without makeup (or at least not in a pic you posted). Circa maybe 2012, I remember you could get away with minimal makeup in slightly more casual styles, but I suspect that was only if you were deemed to have good facial genetics. Anyway my point is, the idea of somebody who didn't go completely femme in the face while in egl -- and that anyone would approve of it -- is still a little wild to me. It was such a grave sin lol. Though, regardless of masc/femme/gender, one tip I feel is relevant is how to carry your body while wearing the clothes. Like Lor says about Rinrin being so graceful, it sort of "improves" the aesthetics of the clothes. It's a mistake I see a lot of people make when they "dress up", partly because they don't feel comfortable, but also partly because they just don't realize. I always think egl looks best when the person is like....exuding egl energy iykwim
I think when Connor was talking about keeping the outfit for himself, I believe that he would have actioned it off for charity since he dose a lot of charity’s for the IDF
It's not specifically singing for me, but I don't like people putting attention on me on my birthday. I have a vivid memory I feel bad about where my mother arranged for local radio personalities to hang out with me and her on my birthday when I was like 10? Maybe I was 8... I know I was fairly young. But it was in the middle of a very crowded mall and all these people were around looking at us and I felt so overwhelmed by it I started crying a bit. I felt scared for some reason... I think it's something to do with just not liking being exposed for me, but I did apologize even then to them. I was moved they were there, but it was an uncomfortable place for that to happen and didn't know how to handle it as a surprise especially.
16:36 For anyone wondering, the tea that Conner is drinking here is called Butterfly Pea Tea! It has a very earthy taste and taste very similar to green tea. And it changes to purple when you add an acid like citrus due to a natural chemical reaction. And yes, it is that blue. The flower has so much natural pigment, that many people like to use it as a natural food dye. One of my favorite teas.
As a genderfluid person who doesn't do makeup, and doesn't always shave, i am all for more lolita being more chill with me not looking super fem. I like messing with gender, full beard and a dress.
I just came back from Japan! I found an Angelic Pretty store. And I did want to buy lolita clothes. And the employee was so nice. Most of the clothes there had elastic waists or something about the back to make it stretchy. I bought 6 items. 2 shirts, 1 pair of socks, headband bow, a petticoat, and a pair if shorts. $770 😭
I hope you have fun at haunt this year. I also really liked Connor’s outfit. RinRin ,as expected, styled him perfectly. I love that Connor tried on the dress but I never expected him to wear it to the party. ❤
can confirm as a Londoner that if you go to central - even just Waterloo Station - you WILL see people wearing alternative fashion just like. around. not going to events or anything it's just how they dress on their days out
Idk why but people pulling out an instrument and singing at parties makes me uncomfortable too. Maybe it's from when guys would bring out a guitar and play Wonder wall in highschool all the time
I love what you said about alternative vs mainstream fashion, because that is so true and a perspective that people often don't even see when their not alternative themselves^^
I don't care what anyone says that butterfly pea/blue tea doesn't taste good at all haha! I bought a whole jar and it's been sitting in my kitchen for years.
The uncomfortable vocal performance is so relatable! There's an expectation that the audience pays attention and is quiet and still, which can already be an uncomfortable feeling. Also it's not exactly polite to move away from the performance or try to dampen the sound, even if it's overwhelming. Add on to that when the performance is over, you're expected to applause and compliment the performer. At a concert you decide to opt in, and a lot of times you don't even have to do the social ritual thing lol. Versus an unexpected or small performance... it's really a bit awkward sometimes isn't it? 😅
Btw Connor is a kind of guy who would wear the same shirt for weeks because he has multiple with the same print (purple trash taste shirt). 😂 He is way too comfortable. I've followed him for what feels like 10 years, lol. I know he will not wear Lolita in the future. 🤷🏻♀️
when you talk about more masculinity in lolita fashion, my brain immediately goes to that one drawing someone did of batman in the pink princess dress more of that!!!!!!!!
On the topic of bonnets - just search for "The Demise of Sunbonnet Sue". It's a monologue from the show 'Quilters' and I completely empathize with the young quilter in this number. (no, I do not quilt. I do knit)
the color change blue tea would likely be butterfy pea flower, which changes color with ph. the same effect can be found in hydrangea flowers, although hydrangeas arent edible
Oh my goodness I feel the same about people singing TO you. I had an ex that would send me snapchats of her singing and I would have to skip through them and act like I listened to them 😅 (I always felt bad about it but just couldn’t make myself listen)
Singing live to you perhaps pressures you into reacting accordingly? Kind of like opening gifts in front of others. You're expected to act happy and appreciative no matter what you actually think of it.
But wait!! About Japanese brand sizing! I will CONTINUE to stan for Meta!! YAY METAMORPHOSE TEMPS DE FILLE!! And shout out to Emily Temple Cute for their recent plus size releases and Mam Maxicimam for their lovely sizing!
My sister has Misophonia and that's the reason certain noises can be uncomfortable and even extremely painful for her, including live singing. I don't know if that's what it is for you or not, but that's one thing it could be.
I can understand the bonnet being compared with babies all the time because I myself have 3 pair of bonnets that my mom kept from when I was a baby.. needless to say it’s hard to break away from that comparison
NO BUT REALLL one of my Ex's actually sang for me which made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable for some reason😭 but I didn't want to be rude and tell him that😭
An actual answer about Connor's accent if you want it: Connor is Welsh, not English, but has a modern PR accent. It's regarded as a bit more posh, but isn't really an indicator of class anymore (as a Welshman with a modern PR accent myself, both of my parents are working class). Thank you for trying not to offend anyone by accidentally mocking the "lower" classes, appreciated, but it doesn't usually tend to be a big issue. If you've experienced trouble before, however, then I'm sorry. If Connor did have a more "traditional" Welsh accent, then it would actually be more problematic as Wales has a history of colonialism, oppression and classism. But everyone and their mother does it anyway, and a lot of us are rather chill, so I doubt you'd get in much trouble over that, either.
17:35 it could be the tonal difference in atmosphere. i haven't seen CDawgVA's video yet but based on the clips shown in your video has has a sortof silly comical lighthearted vibe to his commentary which may not match with the sincerity and vulnerability (possibly also gentleness) of the live performance
While all communities have some pressure to conform, they all have varying degrees of this pressure.
yeah exacly.
As a punk i see a very similar connection with Gyaru
Yeah it's also a bit crazy to me she'd think she would know better than someone who lived there most of his life lol

Silly little tea rant here: I believe the blue tea in the video is butterfly pea flower tea, which is a edible flower commonly used in some teas, as a natural dye, and natural ph indicator which is why it chages color to purple. The lemon is acid which causes the change.
How fascinating! Thank yoi for sharing!!

I thought so too! Especially since from what I've seen it's pretty popular in Asia and it's the most common blue tea lol

its important to remember that the vibrant alt scenes in the uk are Reactionary to the culture that connor described. they are huge and vibrant and influential in that area for the same reason lolita and other alt styles are huge in japan. that doesnt mean that japans politeness culture is suddenly void. these styles are a response to the culture that limits expression, and i dont think its right to call connor unfair for adressing these faults - especially when punks and goths face major discrimination in the uk to this day
The thing with UK alt fashion is that there is a strong pressure to conform socially because random children will bark at you in the street and call you emo for wearing something as small as black jeans.
Yeah not the whole of the UK - you’re fine in the big cities.
same hre in sweden. emo or goth and they can not seperation emo or gorh.
Think about the Sophie Lancaster case.
its so sad i hop you are okey?
That's my thinking about it.
yeh he usually gifts to subs when he gets things for videos, or recently does auctions for charity with stuff!
This is so interesting and exciting!
This is what I've been trying to do with my lolita style so it's really interesting to see someone else going for the same thing! It feels much more like "me" to try and style lolita in a more androgynous way. Jackets are my best friends fr
Would love to learn more about this style!
honestly love CDawg, from black butler fan to a real stand up guy
Omg that video is next in my queue! Feel like I jist experienced a glitch in the matrix haha
It's butterfly peaflower tea lol 😂 * choking laughing * it changes color when you add an acidic fruit to it lol.
Lol yes it's not windex at all! Very yummy and it's all natural but it looks artificial 😆
tbf, i would not be surprised if the fact that there is such a strong pressure to conform in UK society is perhaps why alt fashion has such a rich history there- i've heard japan is similar in that way re: how gyaru was started
Yeah its pretty dangerous and/or hard to be publicly alternative here
Connor is gradually becoming one of the most wholesome UA-camrs out there.
"Hip size doesn't matter" MY BUTT! My hips and shoulders have been the biggest issues for finding clothes (even in lolita) that actually fit right!
REAL 🗣️🗣️🗣️
I have large hips too and the biggest problem I've had is BLOUSES! When they reach even four centimeters below my waist, I'm suddenly in the realm of the unbuttonable 🥲
The shoulders omg!
Ayyy I'm trans masc (but not a trans man) and also a gothic lolita! I really hope someday I can sew my own stuff but I am very intimidated by it lol
really glad to see you cover this video as a long-time viewer of the both of you!!
connor has some garbage opinions about innocuous topics that he's personally interested in sometimes, but in the end he's usually really respectful and open-minded when it comes to things that are important to other people. i was really happy when his video initially came out because i knew that it would get a generally positive response from you. :')
I felt the same when I first saw it! "Oh Lor will love this" 😂
19:52 i think that they actually purchased these pieces but maybe if Connor (CDawgVA) didn't want to keep these clothes Rin Rin would give them to a friend or something
He's Welsh
Dunno if it helps, but I thought I should mention it
You didn't get what point Conner wanted to get across with the " playing a character " statement, because he is 100% right.
Felt like representation in a way😂
As for doing English accents (I can't speak for any other nation in the UK) - we have funny accents here. I understand the appeal to tease them a little, or shy away from them too haha. I personally wouldn't be offended if somebody attempted my accent so long as they weren't doing it to mock my community, but my accent isn't well known so I don'tneed to worry about that really (It's a rural one)
Oh but I certainly appreciate the lack of overused tired jokes being repeated like 'bo la wa er' or 'shtewpid innit' because those ones may actually be mocking working class people lol
What you said could mean a lot more or less if we knew what accent you have ol'chap ❤
Yeah, noone really harps on people in regards to class and British accents this side of the century
The tea is peaflower extract! It's actually all natural and reacts to with citrus to turn from blue to purple
Having the whole disclaimer abt mocking British accents then dismissing Connors opinion on what British ppl wear was kinda funny to me cuz like,, i think a British man would know abt how brits dress 😭😭😭
Like😂
In defense of the "character" idea, while larping isn't the same as dressing lolita by a long shot, adopting the mindset of a lolita Persona of sorts can help with newcomers trying to ease into the community and help them work out which substyles would work for them. and after some experimentation with what helps them feel comfortable , then they can learn to drop the persona and begin incorporating fashion into their actual wardrobe and only bring the persona back out for special occasions.
Loved seeing the react content back! I feel like I learn so much about the fashion every time you make one of these.
Connor is Welsh, it's chill
(for me I think it's mainly a language cringe/lyrics processing thing, if someone sang to me and I didn't understand the lyrics it would still be embarrassing but probably a lot easier for me to handle 😆)
omg my favorite lolita content creator making a video on my favorite streamer :DD life is good
Connor's Welsh, not English
It’s also a pretty common combination at tea and boba shops.
time is going so fast! I feel like we just got you back from haunt season 😭. Hope Buttons has a great season of scares.
-but then if I have to perform, I barely get nervous at all. idk i cannot explain it
Hey as a working class Brit thanks for caring about how the stuff you do impacts classism in the U.K., it’s a very nice breath of fresh air from the usual experience
I'm so happy you're reacting to this video! You're always really nice when doing reactions, and you provide so much more context and knowledge.
Yay, I love the react videos!
The alternative ways to wear your cords series was a fave of mine too 🩷
17:27 omg same!! for me there's a sort of "uncanny valley" for performing. if it's unserious enough, I don't tend to mind it (ex: someone singing to themself while doing another task and not paying attention to anything else). if it's a more professional/grand setting, that's also fine. but that middle road?? where it's mostly casual but you're also supposed to be paying attention to the performance?? NOPE, feels awkward. I also feel bad because I tend to get the feeling that the performer is trying to show off even when that is NOT their intention.
Oh my gosh! My favorite youtubers in ONE video!! THANKS YOUUU
STOP MY TWO FAV UA-camRS 😖🙏🙏😭😭😭
16:36 For anyone wondering, the tea that Conner is drinking here is called Butterfly Pea Tea! It has a very earthy taste and taste very similar to green tea. And it changes to purple when you add an acid like citrus due to a natural chemical reaction. And yes, it is that blue. The flower has so much natural pigment, that many people like to use it as a natural food dye. One of my favorite teas.
" blue liquid seems like something you shouldn't drink"
*my 10yr old self downing a gallon of koolaid or blue tampico*
As a genderfluid person who doesn't do makeup, and doesn't always shave, i am all for more lolita being more chill with me not looking super fem. I like messing with gender, full beard and a dress.
I just came back from Japan! I found an Angelic Pretty store. And I did want to buy lolita clothes. And the employee was so nice. Most of the clothes there had elastic waists or something about the back to make it stretchy.
I bought 6 items. 2 shirts, 1 pair of socks, headband bow, a petticoat, and a pair if shorts.
$770
😭
Me to my computer, "Awktuwawy, he's Welsh." 🤓
when you talk about more masculinity in lolita fashion, my brain immediately goes to that one drawing someone did of batman in the pink princess dress
more of that!!!!!!!!
Glad to see Lolita Reacts again! Maybe you could react to Pixielocks' return to lolita fashion
Oh hey! Trash Taste and Abroad in Japan! I wouldn’t worry about imitating Connor’s accent, he is a voice actor so he wouldn’t care.
There are a few youtube videos that talk about the varieties of Lolita fashion and the history.
Rinrin is my beloved lolita queen
On the topic of bonnets - just search for "The Demise of Sunbonnet Sue". It's a monologue from the show 'Quilters' and I completely empathize with the young quilter in this number. (no, I do not quilt. I do knit)
The Moitie coord was so good!
the color change blue tea would likely be butterfy pea flower, which changes color with ph. the same effect can be found in hydrangea flowers, although hydrangeas arent edible
8:58 so true, I’ve heard that Japan is a super homogeneous country as well, so you can imagine,,,
i think it would be really cool to see a video abt masculine lolita style!
We have been blessed with a video in OCTOBER? Wow
I love the red and black Lor ❤️🖤
I love macaron but macaroons are also delicious. Equal love for my sweet treats
The UK has THE BEST goth stores! I am always so jealous! You're so right!!
So expensive😣 i understand why but DANG
@@stitchgor3 Ugh yeah :/ Thankfully goth and most alt fashion is really based on diy/thrifting.
Oh my goodness I feel the same about people singing TO you. I had an ex that would send me snapchats of her singing and I would have to skip through them and act like I listened to them 😅 (I always felt bad about it but just couldn’t make myself listen)
I ADORE CDAWGGG
The only thing I want to say as a semi regular Cdog watcher is that Conner is actually Welsh!
I can understand the bonnet being compared with babies all the time because I myself have 3 pair of bonnets that my mom kept from when I was a baby.. needless to say it’s hard to break away from that comparison
NO BUT REALLL one of my Ex's actually sang for me which made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable for some reason😭 but I didn't want to be rude and tell him that😭
The Gothic to Lolita pipeline is also real, according to the attendees of last big German meet-up....
Conor is definitely middle or high class he’s got the poshest British southern accent but is Welsh… 😂
An actual answer about Connor's accent if you want it:
Connor is Welsh, not English, but has a modern PR accent.
17:35 it could be the tonal difference in atmosphere. i haven't seen CDawgVA's video yet but based on the clips shown in your video has has a sortof silly comical lighthearted vibe to his commentary which may not match with the sincerity and vulnerability (possibly also gentleness) of the live performance
brittney broski is garbo anyway lmao
NO because i also have the aversion to live singing! Especially if i know the person or its a more intimate setting, and i really cant pinpoint why 😅
