I have the OGIO bag, and I totally have to disagree with you about the hi vis color. It makes it so much easier to see your stuff in the bag, especially versus a black lining.
I agree, 100%. In fact, since I carry so many cables around with me, I will take hi viz duct tape or bright rubber bands and wrap the cables in either of those two so I can see the cables without having to hold the opened bag right next to a light to see better on the inside. It saves so much time and frustration.
High visibility red on the inside of the backpack is used to easily spot your items inside. It's easier to see inside than black interior.
I don't know, I think the hi-viz red would make it easier for small items etc. to stand out, to more quickly find them.
They actually have a Blue and Red one too and both of them do help with visibility at night, I own both.
The high viz of the Ogio helps finding your stuff. Especially in low light. (versus black lining)
all of your videos that i've seen are incredibly well-researched, fast paced, honest & informative... as a brand new rider (and as a viewer with ADD), please keep it up! (already subscribed because i don't wanna miss a thing *cue aerosmith*)
I have the Kriega backpack 20liter...I love this bag as I'm a commuter and getting groceries, going to the gym...this bag holds a lot and it feels great no matter how much I have inside
Just came across this channel and wow you make the most detailed and informative reviews, im surprised this doesnt have a ton more views. subscribed
I'm just getting into motorcycling and your vids are great help! Keep it coming mate
I bought an Ogio Mach 3 (plain black) and absolutely love it. I looped my bike and it took the hit like a champ. Crushed the hard cover a bit and scratched it up pretty bad but it popped back into place and I still use it. I bought another Mach 3 (the one made for KTM with black, white and orange) and will be buying the new Mach 3 bag made for KTM (all black).
I've rode through pouring rain and never had anything inside get wet even though it isn't even rated as water resistant.
The Icon Urban is an incredible tank bag, the shoulder straps are just for convenience. The magnets held it to the tank of my SV650 no problem, even stuffed with 3 college textbooks, 2 binders, a notebook, ipad, and a set of gym clothes, running shoes, and small towel. If you pack smart, you could do a short tour with it as your only luggage and a tent and sleeping bag tied on the back seat.
as a product reviewer myself, I am very impressed! Very nice 'finish' on your vids and professional. Had to subscribe! Keep them comin!
I use a Chrome Motor Citizen messenger bag. They're designed for motorcycle users though a bit on the heavy side. I really like mine. It's big and easy to get in and out of. The water proofing has also come in handy quite a few times and I've only had it for a couple of months. Worth a look.
Missing a Kriega backpack
+DodgeSkitz87 I ordered one before making this video, and I really liked it! Unfortunately the price tag was just a tad high for what it offered. Will try to throw a Kriega into the mix again next year - I know they have a really good reputation. ~RyanF9
For me, the real advantage of the Kriega is the strap arrangement. On most back packs the straps cross my shoulder right at the rotator cuff of my arm. This tends to cut off circulation to my arms and hands causing me discomfort. The Kriega moves the straps inboard so the pressure is distributed closer to the center of your chest. This makes a big difference for me.
+FortNine You should order a boblbee megalopolus back and do a review. It a CE rated hard shell back pack. Trust me when I say it works. I went down 8 months ago with 1 on. It saved my back Andy lap top. They ran 1 over with a H2 and all it did was tear the corner of the shell a little.
The Dainese version of the Mach5 comes with a rain cover. Made by Ogio, same damn backpack, it just has the Dainese logos all over it.
Dainese uses the mach3, with rain cover... so its about $70 overpriced. id rather have the mach5
+Vverzo is correct, I almost buy the d-mach version, thanks God realize this fact in last minutes
I got the mach 5 for almost 250 canadian dollar in store. I used wish and ordered a dainese (it's the mach3) for 50$...the mach 5 is really better and in store they sell the dainesemach3 for the same price of the mach5
IF you have a CycleGear near you check to see if they have any extra Rain covers laying around
You do a good job with these videos man! I just placed an order from your site for the torrent waterproof backpack. Its just what I've been looking for on my enduro rides.
Keep up the good work with the videos!
I like that back door entry 😂
The Nac Pak is great that avalanche probe side bit works great for tent poles that don't quite fit in panniers.
I use the Kriega R20 on my Bobber for light touring and the Klim NacPak on my WR450F for enduro riding and go between both on my 800 Tiger depending on if I'm on or offroading. Both are excellent.
I love the buckle that doubles as whistle.
I have owned an Ogio for a couple years now. The model I have doesn't include the fanny pack or the inner webbing, but is otherwise the exact same. I really like it for carrying my laptop like you mentioned. It has been a great pack and very durable so far. I have a rather large Lenovo laptop but despite that it still fits well and can fit all my accessories. It also is very comfortable to ride with unlike previous packs I have had.
Great reviews though, I am kinda interested now in that icon one for the tank bag aspect.
excellent production value. concise and on point. it has been my experience with camping gear that hi viz insides aid in making objects in the bag stand out for easier identification. in the case of the Mach thought it doesn't make sense. you wouldn't want loose items rolling about. always a please keep up the great work
Damn, just stumpled over your channel and gotta give props for that production quality! Great work :D
Great video mate! Keep them coming :)
Got myself the Ogio Mach 3. Although it's not waterproof, the top she'll definitely is. I just sprayed the under textile part with boot protector. I've ridden in torrential rain and most of the water just beads off. The top of the inside was damp but none of my stuff was wet. I actually spray all my gear with this stuff. Helps bead off water and also protects my gear colour from fading.
Alpinestars aero. Small but effective. Make sure you get the older version that has the strap that unbuckles.
Just bought one on eBay for $142.00 brand new for the Mach 5. A must have for everything you never know when you need pockets.
The Ogio no Drag is also great against pick pockets.
would love to see Boblbee bag in the mix ... 😄
I think a high Sierra backpack would work as well because I have 2 one that I use for school and one that i will be using for riding and they have chest straps and straps that go around your waste and have a small compartment that holds a waterproof cover for if it ever rains
So glad i live in Ireland, you know just one hour to anywhere 🤣wait 😮 didn't really prepare for my trips abroad just went but i will now 👌☺️
I recommend wound seal powder for the first aid kit.
good video quality and reviews. subscribed 😀 more quality content please 😊
what about the boblbee people's delight or the boblbee megalopolis? (they've changed it to point 65 Sweden now?)
Cool review !
well veryyyyyyyyy informative, Good job
it's not particularly a motorcycle bag, but it's the bag I ride with. the 5.11 rush 24 is amazing for riding and shooting
see i just bought a cargo net i strap to my pillion seat. so i just put my regular back pack ive been using since highschool under there and ride like normal. and i dont have to worry about the added weight on my back impacting how i move on the bike. sometimes the best option is the simplest. and cheapest.
I actually prefer the no drag mach 3 over the 5 due to how it fit on my back with a Klim jacket one (I wear a weird combo of gear that just works for me)
Okay, good to know. It shipping to me... I went with OGIO Mach 3 coz of the price diff. I have shoes + uniform I need to put in there. I was using an Acerbis pack and got tired of the wind drag when I'm riding all highway to and from the job. I'm a tall but small gal and considered the Mach 5 would be huge on me. I wear size small pants and medium shirt so I can't wait to see my pack finally ship to me, been 1 day lol..
"External cargo pocket"
Proceeds to shove in backpack
Hi can you recommend any back pack for trades men preferably for an electrician, there are lots of electrician back packs but I'm worried about coming off with tools strapped to my back.
Kriega R25 and R35 are the best IMPO. My R25 is about 20 years old and is in perfect condition and still 100% waterproof. Quality is remembered long after the cost is forgotten...
I just use a $30 Daypack similar to the Klim... been using it for a few years now and it's great, no issues with it. Sticks to me like glue any drag caused by it isn't noticeable. I've lowsided, due to user error(I was a novice rider then) and the only damage to the pack was to the quick release buckles on the straps, I did not feel like it would cause any issues with survive-ability as it helped keep me on my gears integrated armoring and, also slid up enough to help pad and support my head/helmet during the initial fall and during the slide.
If I were to upgrade I'd go with the Klim or the torrent, the Ogio's hardshell design(all hardshell's actually) scare me as I feel it would cause injury to the neck in the event of a crash and the icon just looks poorly made and I dislike how small it looks.
Actually hardshells are good for crashes because it allows you to slide on your back if you are ever in a crash and not get caught on the ground and cause you to start rolling which can result in more injuries.
dude i really like ur video, i will suscribe
The BMW Function is missing ! I've been owning one for over a year now and I gotta say it's awesome. You should review it !
thanks this video was very informative -
Nice reviews, like that you are not afraid to point out the short comings of products. No Kriega bag review (the best bags IMHO)?
+3N1Motorsports.com Thanks! I did order a Kriega bag for this video, but I was actually underwhelmed for the price point. I'm hoping to try a few more of their packs this year, because people always rave about them! ~RyanF9
+FortNine Just to be clear on my comment above. That was not meant to come across negative but as a complement. Too many "reviews" on here, at least the ones that are well put together, read more like an advertisement than an honest review. Kriega is pretty spendy but well worth the money. I got one for Christmas and one mis-labled on ebay for cheap.
Would love to see a review on motorcycle cell phone holders. Like the xgrip by ram vs techmount vs Rokform vs techgripper preferably for sportbikes that don't have room on handlebars.
+3N1Motorsports.com Ah yes good idea on the cell phone holders - I'll add it to our shooting list!
Would the Ogio Mach 5 fit ok with racing leathers? My leathers have a hump. I commute to track weekends and desperately need a good pack that will work with my race gear
You forgot Alpinestars. I have an older version of the Tech Aero I think. It was almost $200. I bought it for the helmet bag. It was kind of a busy bag and I removed a bunch of the front strap pouches originally. I just put the Velcro map pouch back on. The phone pouch is laughable bcuz Apple's phone was new when I got it. Cue intense laughing... Still a great bag and has a rain coat to boot. I will prob keep it until it gives up the ghost. I'm not ready for saddle bags but a tank bag or passenger seat bag might hit the spot. Suzuki used to sell a passenger seat bag for the Hayabusa. It was discontinued like 6yrs ago. Random thoughts and opinions. I'm enjoying your vids. Not bad for a canuck. 😂
Missing the Megalopolis BobleBee backpack.
Ogio no drag actually gives me like +5mph give or take so I'm pretty satisfied with that.
I got myself the Ogio Mach (add any number here) Dainese Edition and even the pocket side is complete fluo red.
(Which is awesome as many stated already, because you can find your stuff more easy)
The good thing is that it already comes with a rain cover 👍.
Most of the time the dainese version costs more but I managed to get it for a lot less then even the normal version.
Downside: it does not come with the visor pouch and the divider inside neither does it have the fanny pack (the Last I didn’t care for anyway)
I was riding with it and came into a heavy rainstorm and with no options to make a stop and throw the cover over,
I just went for it in the hope that it would at least withstand some of the rain.
In the backpack were my rather new iPad and some papers,
so when I arrived home I was even more shocked to see that I forgot to close the zipper and had just thrown it on loosely.
On a side note: I was so soaked that my boots were filled about 15cm with water even tho I had tucked them under my Kevlar cargos
(just for a quick reference as to how heavy the rain was)
Now for the big surprise:
Except for a little 1-2cm area on one of the papers the inside of the backpack was basically dry.
Even my back was dry because it was sitting so snug against it.
The only slightly wet area inside were behind the ogio sign as the bolts are not sealed which led to a few drops getting in.
Maybe this helps some people with their decision making.
Me for my part am totally happy with my choice of buying this backpack 🎒
What up man, I'm new to all this motorcycle stuff. Was curious to know if you can do a list of safety instructions/rules on how to pack a lot of stuff into your backpack, and what you would do if someone like me was going to carry a lot of stuff with them. I would usually go to work and carry my spare clothing and mma/muaythai gear, and go to the gym after work as it would be easier. I usually carry with me my big soccer or swim bag, but was curious to know if big bags like that existed in the motorcycle world. Peace!FYI I usually carry my boxing gloves + gear, Muay Thai shin guards, and Eskrima sticks for stick fighting classes etc.
Hey! Cool idea for a video - I'll add it to our shooting list. And there are a few huge motorcycle backpacks out there. But if I were you, I'd consider getting a *snowmobile* pack. They usually have sleeves on each side for an avalanche probe and a shovel. In your case, the sleeves would be very useful for keeping Eskrima sticks. ~RyanF9
I had to look up what a 'bear banger' was. I am NOT disappointed!
Maybe ins't safe, big, confortable or the best, but i love to use my backpack JDM Bride blue Sparco
the high visibility red in the ogo is probably so you see the items in it easy
Hey I like your videos, and I expect they will get even better, but I have a quick suggestion. As you are describing something you often jump around the room in different clips, while still talking about the same thing. Try staying in one place and finishing your point, before jumping across the room to add something else. 👌
PACK HACK - Use double sided velcro to tidy up your straps. Stop flaps, velc straps. Electric tape is all well and good but means you cant adjust anything without sticky annoyance.
hello, compared to mach 3, do not you find the mach 5 too big? Is there more function than Mach 3? thank you !
Ryan, why a V Strom and not a triumph 800 xca? I am looking at the triumph 800 and wanted to know why you went with the V strom.
More backpacks videos please :D
what about the American kargo trooper? I've been looking at that one because it's covered in Hi viz yellow and reflective material for night riding. also has wide shoulder straps and a nice chest closure that's supposed to help keep so much pressure off my shoulders.
The Trooper is great. I've actually been testing one for our 2017 backpack video. My only major complaint is that the bag is pretty damn heavy, even when it's empty. If you're planning to fill it with a lot of stuff anyway, that's not such a big deal. But if you only want to carry a few things around you could get away with a lighter bag. Cheers! ~RyanF9
FortNine thanks for the input. I'll be keeping an eye out for that video too. I've currently just been using a normal school backpack without any kind of chest clip and I found that my right shoulder gets really tense and sore. I dont carry a ton day to day but as I start doing more rides and longer rides I've begun carrying more along with and cramming it all in a typical school bag is annoying.
keep up the great work. thanks for the reply.
Does the Icon bagpack when used as a tank bag stay up with a laptop in it? Even with strong magnets, the effect of wind will definitely be greater than the magnetic force as far as I can tell. A bulky 15 inch laptop and other stuff will weight at least 6-8 pounds.
I know someone who rides with a 15" laptop in his Icon Urban, and he doesn't have any problems. Although he is on a sport bike, so the bag is somewhat shielded by the fairing. Personally, I wouldn't worry so long as the force of the bag's weight is perpendicular to the surface of the gas tank. I.e. if the bag is mounted on an incline (like in this video) you might have troubles. ~RyanF9
How to get my camera gear on my bike ... What bag should I use ... Or how to strap my existing bag to my bike
lol. the knack-pack is a life hack... =mind blown
U forget the Boblbee backback. Great videos btw :)
As a new rider, I was wondering if you could use like just a regular school backpack on some occasions, like say going to and from school on your bike. Is that okay or is that just unsafe?
You should check out Chrome Industries Backpacks. Originally designed for Bicycle Commute, I found that they're incredibly sturdy and reliable for motorcycles as well.
Alpinestars Tech Aero backpack wins for me.. in my case it works better than a kriega.. the kriega i noticed it's difficult to breath sometimes due to the chest harness
the magnets pick up tiny bits of grit and metal, they are great if you don't care about your paint on the tank
Doesn't OGIO come with helmet strap as well. At least the one I have has it. You also missed the R25 from Kreiga or their whole range.
I normaly ride with a US Military backpack.
Works fine and I can fit two helmets Insider it.
I have the Firstgear Torrent. Love it except the bottom rips easily if thrown onto concrete a lot :(
The Nac pack is basically a sword holster...prove me wrong..... seriously tho, I'm ready to buy it just for that reason
Anything I put in bag will be waterproof. What if I pour water in the bag will it stay dry in the bag?
Didn't someone make a video on UA-cam reviewing three different versions of the Ogio backpack? I'm pretty sure it was Ryan but I can't find it wtf
I died when he said "perfect for my treasure map"
Anyone know re Ogio Mach 5: is the rain shell only made to fit the Mach 5 ... eg, can it fit the Mach S as well ... ?!!
man id like to see a hardshell backpack with a built in tailbone protector.
My camera bag is a backpack. The downside of having a professional set up. Lol. I'm actually trying to figure out a good set up for touring so I can bring my photography gear and luggage for extended stays.
What rain gloves are you using?
OGIO: 200 bucks.
XL Moto (or Moto XL?), here in Italy 30 eurodollah.
Guess what? It is the same exact product.
hi from colombia, my name is sebastian an in weird way i had bought a backpack very similar to Firstgear Torrent Waterproof Backpack, was so cool looking that was a good option (Thing that I had thoungt before.)
Hey awesome vid! can you tell me what your camera bag is? looks like exactly what i need for my camera gear. Thanks
Thanks! It's a Lowepro bag, but quite an old one. We think the modern equivalent would be something like this: store.lowepro.com/ca/shoulder-bags/edit-140-ca ~RyanF9
How do you forget boblbee? The highest rated spine protector. Yeah it's crap for storage but damn is it cool.
Hi there! Looking for those PDX bib but can't find them anywhere :( Any tips? XL is out of stock with canadian motorcycle. XL option is stil available tho, hope you guys will receive more before making me purchase those PDF 2 :( Love those video, really helpful. Cheers!
Hey! Looks like the PDX bibs are disappearing fast, especially in the larger sizes. We still have some of the jackets available (www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/icon-pdx-hi-visibility-jacket.html). With the bibs, you might have better luck finding a hi-visibility option (www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/icon-pdx-hi-visibility-bib.html). We don't have many left, but some of the other distributors in Canada and the states might have a few in larger sizes. Good hunting. ~RyanF9
Nice thanks! (sorry, just figured out that I post my comment in the wrong vid ;) )
Cool, but I'm still gonna go for Direct Action Dust for the sake of ergonomic and durability
hi I'm from tamilnadu India
do I can get these things in Indian markets
Oh Ryan, why the internal hi-viz hate. I think it is an awesome idea for finding all those farkles that hide in my bag. High priority for me!
+Jason WD Ahh yes, I knew people would disagree with that one. Not sure why, but I never have a hard time seeing things in my bag. I'm glad it's useful for some people though! ~RyanF9
Ahhh yes young ryan
What about fanny packs.. i dont wanna ride with a big backpack
How about a review of bags I can carry a helmet in...
Not much in the way of large capacity packs here.
Ich verwende einen Turnbeutel. Selbst bei Agility-Tracks oder 300km/h spüre ich nicht, dass er dabei ist. Kostet wenig und super praktisch. ;D
Cancer joke was unwarranted my grandfather lived one of the healthiest lives possible and was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer a month ago....
Kriega > all others I've tried and cannot imagine how they can not be on this list. I have the Ogio Mach 5 and a Kriega R25 amongst a few others, and I can't even ride 30 minutes with the Ogio with a laptop in it before my arms and back hurt. They way it loads weight onto your shoulders is seriously the worst, whereas I can easily put 10kg in my Kriega R25 and ride all day. Even fully loaded, if it's adjusted properly there is no weight on your shoulders - you can fit a finger between your shoulder and the strap. The other manufacturers have a long way to go before they catch up to Kriega's quadlock system...
I will admit the Ogio has a pretty decent capacity once it has been expanded but I would never want to carry a load that large longer than down the road with those horrible shoulder straps, also my phone doesn't fit in the top phone pocket... I do really like the visor pouch though and I like how it sits at the top of the bag so anything heavy is less likely to damage it, again; not that I want to carry anything heaving in this stupidly uncomfortable bag!
The Kriega still wins on capacity though due to the ability to strap a US5 or US10 drypack to the front of the bag.
Go to Walmart and buy a 20-30$ bag. Works perfectly fine
Realy like your comments. But back pack are no on long rides. Drive it on the beast..

Any suggestions for a college student? I'm currently looking a getting the American Kargo Trooper.
