It's Mode Change Monday! And in honor of seeing Radiohead in concert in KC, here is my No Surprises cover, converted to a minor key (ish).
So about the "ish," I made a few creative decisions. Firstly, this song really isn't in any key. It hovers between F and Eb major, but that's a story for another day. Relatively speaking, it's in a key (pitch shifted up or down a quarter step).
Secondly, there are sections at the beginning, at the end of each phrase, that sound like they're in the relative harmonic minor. These sections I left alone, because it flowed better then some of the other options I looked into. And at the end, the song switched from "F major" to "F minor" of it's own accord. I treated the "F minor" sections as the relative major (Ab major), and converted it to "Ab minor" (7 flats! Argh!).
So there you go! Radiohead No Surprises from major to minor-ish. Enjoy!

Oh what's this? How interesting and solemn version! It reminds me the sound of a church choir (I'm not religious but I enjoy a lot that kind of voice ensamble), this is not what I expected to hear but it really opens my ears to new places.
Yeah, so! This was a bit of a weird one, because it wasn't fully in a "major key." So I had to do my best to put it in a minor key, while also changing the mode of the mode change that it leaps into on occasion. I don't even fully remember what I did. XD But I was pleased with the results. I did mode changes for this and "True Love Waits" back in 2017. :)

I like it, but it takes the beauty of the minor fourth that is in the original: F - Bbm
This version: Fm - Bbm, now it's just an oridinary chord in the same key.
Yeah, had to make some weird decisions for the "minor-ish" cover, as it didn't easily fit into a niche. Glad you liked it nonetheless. :)

Interesting. Sounds somewhat more... dunno.. Serious ? than the original. I like it !
Right? It has a more somber tone to it...it's more like a dirge, and fits the original song less ironically than the actual version.
why so sad and scary? :( the power of the original song is in making listener peacefully, calm and refreshed... the original song is like lullaby and ya made horror.
True, that's what a minor key will do. :) I think it actual brings out the darkness of the lyrics, and echoes them more plainly.
Yep, it's supposed to be a soothing lullaby--but a depressing one! So it's cool hearing a different tone.
