Well spoken honesty. It is refreshing to hear him say painting isn't always that easy or fun, but when it is, its worth endeavoring through the frustrating time.
Big fan of his work for over 20 years now! I think this is the first time I heard his voice
Oh my god! Diebenkorn speaking!! He was so great artist and so beautiful person!! Thank you so much for the
Oh my god... Thank you so much for this... it's the first time I've actually seen this artist... One of my absolute favorites... Actually speaking in front of a camera.
Love his work !
The Diebenkorn survey exhibition at the Royal Academy in London, a year or two ago, was my viewing highlight of the decade. So wonderful.
What a GREAT artist and what truths he says, it feels so good to hear that even very good artists struggle and sometimes don't enjoy doing their art! This is about BEGINNING a painting, for me that is SO easy: I start WAY too many, for me it's FINISHING them that's a real problem - plus I move onto new ones and lose interest/change styles, but I'm only a beginner!
I too 'violate the canvas in some way or another', that bit is easy for me!
I too 'don’t enjoy it all the time' and sometimes I actually HATE it, especially when I'm trying to finish one that because I chose (silly me) a too-detailed style = it's a real slog and takes SO long, is exhausting. But you can't see that when you look at my art that's like this (maybe?).
He says: 'when I do enjoy it it’s marvellous' = I agree, it's WONDERFUL!!! I need to find more ways to do my art that is FUN!
He says: 'there are times when the inertia is very resistant… they get going sort of… or slowly and badly and this isn’t fun really...' YES!!! Oh THANK YOU for letting me know I'm not the only one! Maybe ALL artists struggle only not many talk about this?
Many thanks for putting this up and Richard Diebenkorn I love your work!
I completely agree Jenny. I am not a beginner, but I am great at starting, and that is the part that I most enjoy. Finishing is usually hard. I am a professional artist, and my home is littered with unfinished or unresolved (in my mind) pieces. I'm always seeking that perfect painting, and perhaps I will never find it, but it keeps me moving forward. Keep at it Jenny, hope you find rewarding moments in your artistic journey!
Yes! Love it. Wonderful insights. Honest too.
This is the difference between a creative act and consumerism. His painting come from life from his imagination not from a photograph.
YEEEEEES!
b rilliant brilliant man!
On point
when is this?
Upload!
This video says absolutely nothing about beginning a painting.
***** Did you miss the part about violating a canvas or the inertia being very resistant, or continuity materializing, or the locale of the artist… Sienna… Florence. Do you need it spelled out for you?
juanlambda27 Well obviously you'd love to, so fire away.
Al Coffey Oh that's right, we met the other day! Now you know all about me. Amazing!
Whatever...
