Great video! I had no idea all this happened back when the movie was released. Crazy!
For all of his infamous emotionless zombie like demeanour, Lucas gives new meaning to the expression "passive aggressive".
Being from Australia the earliest Star Wars merchandise available here were the Topps trading cards that began appearing in December 1977. The movie itself wasn't released here until February 1978. It's a long story but I never actually got to see it in a cinema until it's third release here in August 1982. In July 1978 I did get The Star Wars Storybook from my local news agency and with it's two page spread of the Cantina, that was probably the first time I knew about it.
We did have 10 mini posters we could collect from Cornflakes packets but nothing from the cantina. I've never really thought about it up until now but it must have been that way for sure. And the cantina figures never hit the shelves here until May 1979...
This series of videos is great, thanks for putting the effort in to create them 👍🏻
You're welcome! I originally intended to just make videos straight from my book, like a script, but these videos have worked in a completely different way, and even pointed out some errors in the book, that I'll have to fix. Someday!
Cant wait for your holiday special cantina videos ;)
Thanks, I am working on it at this very moment! Should be interesting!
Brilliant history 👍 thank you for an entertaining and informative video
Thank you! This particular subject never gets talked about, that's for sure!
Very interesting
Awesome video as always 😁👌🏻✨ Will you be talking about the cantina from the Richard Pryor show?
Yes, absolutely, in Chapter 10. I wish I could show the whole thing. It MUST be seen.
Good stuff
I have the Topps series 1 set and it never occurred to me that the Cantina scene was excluded. I've also heard there was some sort of image rights issue specifically regarding the Tonnika sisters actors, but if true I guess that's been resolved for the HasLab.
Yes, one of the two ladies had never signed away her likeness rights, but apparently everything's resolved now, to our great fortune!
maybe George didn't want Rick to get any money from any action figures, that sucks for us
The cgi replacements in the newer versions, just don’t look as good or have the same charm. And really look “alien” next to all the other practical effects, and really memorable aliens.
I agree completely--with the excessive over-abundance of CGI added to the Mos Eisley streets, it's as if Lucas was thinking "I gotta do SOMETHING inside the bar...oh I know, I've always hated those wolfmen that caused me problems..."
@@sampoernaquatrain1710 I have the feeling you’re right.. what HE forgot was, people love those wolfmen 😄
