It's always a pleasure to see more games fill the Siege defence genre, this one is really promising, what looks like ballistic physics in particular. I can imagine how satisfying artillery salvos are going to be on massive waves of enemies.
catapult shots into a pile of enemies is fantastic you're correct :D
Both a Watermelon and a Pumpkin is a type of Berry. So are Tomatoes, Cucumbers and even Bananas.
Amusingly Blackberries, Raspberries and Strawberries aren't a type of Berry at all lol. They're a type of aggregate fruit .
Pineapple is also a berry. I believe they call it a complex berry or compound berry, something along those lines.
Lol I came here to make the same comment. And the worlds largest pumpkin was 2624.6 pounds. So thats a berry that weighs over a ton

It's really a sight to see "They are Billions" being used as the foundation for so many games like this one lol! But so far, Riftbreaker and this game have the highest potential out of all the games that I've seen so far with this kind of uh.. genre.
riftbreaker does look pretty damn sweet. can't wait to see reviews and stuff of that in late october
Yeah looks good on both of these games so far.
I would say that riftbreaker is closer to factorio.
JunK I think They Are Billions jumpstarted the genre pretty well. There is ine game that's basically a medieval They Are Billions where you fight the undead

I can't believe it, a Stronghold inspired game that looks the part after so many years. I HAVE A STIFFY! But I do be missing the rich overdone isometric graphics.
I believe these are the syntystore assets or derived from them. see plenty of games with them these days.
seriously though I have forgotten about the Stronghold series after Stronghold 3 and in fact just remember it with the release of Stronghold Warlords which I bought and played... and thought was terrible and I seriously miss/want a new "modern" Stronghold game.

The game looks pretty neat, too. I'm not quite as big on the endless defence genre as you, but I reckon I'd dig this one.
The graphics/atmosphere gave me a foundation vibe, and i like this kind of cartoon-ish animations!...great looking game, awesome review!...thanks for sharing mr splat!
Totally agree with the Stronghold sentiments. I loved the originals so much and was devastated when the later releases were so bad. "*snort* I win! I win! No one beats the PIG!!" :rage:

Aside from Stronghold, this reminds me a lot of Castles, which was a pretty old game that I used to play on the Amiga 500
And the available buildings and calling the castle the town center reminds me of Age of Empires. I'm pretty sure all 3 have been some inspiration to the game.

I'm 35 myself, and I had 500 aswell, with an extra disc drive attached, pure luxery, a little less swapping required 👍

Starting a brewpub/ wine/ meadery is a big deal. Hope you've got some experience running a restaurant or other small business.

I'm surprised that I don't see anyone mentioning Kingdoms and Castles as an inspiration for this game. The blocky style, gameplay, and medieval fantasy theme make me think of it instantly.

I have had this wishlisted for quite some time and have to say I am very happy with the demo thus far. The only things I feel need tweaking are the ability to have more sustainable food production aka build farms, smaller housing space/or ability to upgrade like in Kingdoms & Castles, larger granary storage/universal addition of space for all granaries (right now they are independent buildings and don't add to the total food storage, only local), and a more efficient logistical network for porters.
Overall though, VERY happy with the one man dev and can't wait to see where this game goes!

At this current point, only the first "tier" of buildings and research are available, so if you survive for roughly 40mins-to an hour, then you will find that expanding your population and army are hampered by a lack of consistent food given that both the berry bushes and fishing spots run out.

for the fruit context, a berry known as an indehiscent, which is a subcategory of fruit. So all berries are fruit but not all fruit are berries. It would still be a berry no matter the size, as long as it has a single ovary and the whole wall is fleshy.

Me: Wish they invented some stuff where you could put more. Like it would be a big square with elevated stands. Something that would be more durable than a wood wall. I got a good idea for the name too. We could call it a tower. It could hold up to 9 shooters or 1 war machine.
I know it's a crazy idea. Not sure if this game thought of that.

I both like and dislike the consuming of the forests:
Like: Realism, I can clear space for biulding(it drives me nuts in they are billions when a single tree messes up my whole build)
Dislike: It places a finite limit on the resource and as such a finite limit on the time on the map, I like being able to use forest boarding as choke points

I love myself a citybuilding survival game. Doesn't matter if its armies, monsters or the elements. I love building cities and optimizing building chains, but there has to be some kind of threat to make it interesting. :)

@@moto_kattie8088 I just played the demo and I think I could sink dozens of hours into it... seems really cool and challenging. Wave 3 kicked my ass. I like the minimalist artstyle.

This would be soooo cool in multiplayer. I can imagine either sending armies to fight each other or seeing who can outlast the raids and trying to mess the other person up by destroying resources

Hey Splat, about the berry thing.
A pineapple is technically a berry (well berries). There are a few others as well, along with a ton of different kinds of pineapples. Some even have the consistency of marshmallows and the flavor of vanilla. You a always have fun facts for us that id never find on my own so I thought I’d share my random fruit info. Check out Miami fruit if you want a solid place to get foreign interesting fruits 😊

I wish there would be games with real diplomacy. Not just a trade window, but with real intel, leverage, high-stakes short term rapport building, long term planning based on different personalities, but as a game, so that trying different things doesn't result in real-life negative consequences.
