I think this is the first time we’ve seen Yoongi depict his past self as a caring and innocent person who experienced suffering (rather than a dangerous enemy that needs to be destroyed), and wants to save them.
In the Daechwita and Haegum MVs, we see this repeating theme of trying to kill off your old self when they become too dangerous or hurtful. Amygdala breaks that cycle.
The Yoongi in the Amygdala MV is very connected to his ‘past self’ who had the car accident, and even tries to reach out to him. Right at the end, when the rain starts, the past self sees him and runs to try and rescue him (although of course it’s impossible - the accident is set in stone and neither of them can escape it. They're stuck in their timelines, on opposite sides of the same door).
They fail, but both the past and present versions really care for and try to help each other, which makes me think he's come to see himself in a more compassionate way over the years. I hope so.

Roscoe is one of my favorite reactors on UA-cam. He found BTS when he was in a bit of a funk and trying to get out of it, and then he did an amazing job building up a great community on the platform (lovingly known as the Couch Crew). He's fun to watch and a great case study for building an audience, imo. Incredibly smart, empathetic, funny dude.
Ahh the Agust D trilogy. Definitely watch them in order, and then definitely look up some explanations. I don't recommend DKDTV's "Daechwita" explanation though because while they get a lot of the historical references, their interpretation of the meaning of the MV is not what SUGA himself has said. Bookish Theories is probably better. The MVs represent his inner struggle with his darker inclinations - anger, greed, etc - which he's channeled into his Agust D persona. He's so creative.
Also - always watch BTS stuff 'til the end haha. You never know when there's gonna be a nice lil surprise.

Yupppp... the d day was a masterpiece 🔥 every song was so beautifully written , suga finished his solo world tour also called as DDay where at the last show he could get out of his trauma by opening the door which he couldn't in the amygdala mv (must react to the d day concert last day it was an epic show where he emotionally broke out) it was a rollercoaster ride 🥺🥺 💜

This is so painful to watch Amygdala😭😢 i can’t even imagine the pain this man went through🤧 this Yoongi’s life story his Mom heart surgery, his dad’s liver cancer and Yoongi’s accident while working as delivery back in his trainee days 2012 and broke his shoulder and he couldn’t tell the company because he was afraid them to kick out and then he kept his pain to himself so he not disturb the group’s work but later in 2022 he did surgery😍last day d-day tour the stage the Amygdala door was there and Yoongi opened it and left with a smile😭 finally Yoongi is healed and free from all his painful traumas🤗💜

Amygdala is amazing to me. We learn about Yoongi's struggles & his desperate efforts to overcome them. But it means something in my life as well & it took a young, brilliant Korean musician to teach it to me in my 50s. This song made me cry my eyes out at first, because of Suga's past trauma & my own, but it gave me sort of an epiphany.
I went through repeated childhood trauma decades ago & despite my best efforts to move forward, sometimes the bad memories still threaten to derail me. This song, more than any other song, book, movie, or therapy session, shows what my head feels like when the memories replay over & over. The feeling of being trapped right back in my childhood, does make me feel very desperate to get out of my cyclical thinking. I don't feel this way all the time thankfully, but when it comes, it's very jarring & feels much like this video.
The epiphany for me is this... As an adult, I've always felt that I bore a responsibility to somehow save my child self, because nobody else did. In a way, it feels like I left that child behind, trapped in terrifying & confusing circumstances for eternity, because I've tried to move on. In this video, Yoongi's younger self tries to open the door to save his older self. It is the first time that I've ever considered the idea that maybe my child self does not hold me responsible for abandoning her, but rather she wants to help me & come to my rescue. It is a very powerful idea to me, that I ponder often & it gives me some kind of relief even now. Thank you Yoongi, for your ability & willingness to "go there" in your music.
Sorry this is so long, Cyrus, but I thought you might find it interesting, since you have studied psychology.

What's impressive with Haegeum is that if you see the credits he's the only one there, yhe songwriting, the music production from beginning to end was all him and he actually had written the storyboard of the MV since right after Daechwita ! Absolutely love the social commentary and his song Polar Night expands on the idea !mean so much to talk about but I'll try to keep this comment short😂
And I'll always remember the incredible emotion of the whole fandom when Amygdala dropped!
He was inspired to write this song while he read the book Almond by won pyung sohn

Yoongi's musical & lyrical cinematic universe is just beautiful..🥺
    *Haegeum means 2 things*
    - a korean 2-string instrument w/c yoongi used in the production
    - liberation from prohibition
    *Some interpretations:*
    1. It's a commentary on the abuse of "freedom of speech/opinion" or freedom in general, society's discretion on good & evil, capitalism
    2. this is agust d in a diff timeline, sequel to daechwita, the thief agust d vs. the cop agust d
    *My takeaways:*
    1. "we must differentiate freedom from self-indulgence", a translator's note is that "differentiate freedom from lawlessness" is more accurate... yoongi's point is that if a person's kind of freedom is that w/c harm others, can you still call that freedom? it isn't freedom when you strip other people of their freedom...
    2. the blatant explicit MV considering he's an idol (k1lling, smoking, stealing)... idols are criticized for the smallest of things like for example seeing an idol smoking just like some other people do, he will be hated, insulted by the public and sometimes even punished by their label as if they committed a crime... they're like the fish in the water dispenser yoongi was watching (he & other celebrities is the fish), that depiction is worse than a fish in a fishbowl, coz they are not just simply being observed but also being stripped off the water that make them breathe...
    3. "Endless influx of information prohibits freedom of imagination/thoughts, and seeks conformity of thought"... nowadays people have been so comfortable being spoonfed w/ information w/o putting effort in fact checking and critical thinking that always triggers controversy and results to confusion and judgment... take for example when BTS announced they are taking a break from group activities, the headlines were saying they will be on hiatus or they are breaking up and people just blindly ate that news, if journos really watched the dinner and reading the subs they clearly said they are just resting frm grp activities and will come back.. so clearly those journos chose to write those headlines for their own gain just like the verse on haegeum says, "slaves to capitalism, money, hatred, prejudice etc."
    4. think of the red chopstick as the "capitalistic society"... that chopstick is a tool to get what we want whether what we want is to resist this kind of society or submit to it, in the end we are part of the society and it's what puts food in our mouth to survive... This is the harsh truth that we can't really escape from it, this is how society was built. But, there's a clear difference between functioning in a capitalistic society vs. actively participating in it and strip others of their freedom. So what should we do?
    5. Agust D is part of yoongi, his inner dark psyche that portrays his conflicting thoughts, and Agust D also splits into micro-characters (the rebel, the boss, the peasant, the king, the thief & the cop) that expresses each of his stance. The blonde agust d in 2016 used his anger (song: agust d) and greed (song: give it to me) as a weapon to rise from nothingness and people's naysaying. In 2020 (song: Daechwita) the blonde agust d who achieved his goals and success was consumed by his greed and became a tyrant king w/c was later k1lled by the rebel/boss agust d (one who's followed by people).. In 2023 (song: Haegeum), the scarred cop agust d seems to be on the side of justice and a man of power but actually the bad guy who pocketed that bag of money while the tangerine thief and boss on that turf was actually the agust d who's trying to catch the evil cop. The greedy agust d is always k1lled by the other agust d, but see how the king and the cop was still smiling and never runs away when the other agust d is abt to k1ll them, it's because they will always be back, it's a constant cycle of making sure that our greed is being keep in check, a constant contemplation... this is the answer to #4.

The things in Amygdala are the real things that happened to him and the reasons for his past truma. The Car Accident was far worse then depicted and it's the accident he couldn't mention at the time because he had the fear that BigHit would not let him debut and might let him go. It cause damage to his shoulder that he never got sorted out until recently and cause him to be in a lot of pain to the point he couldn't even hold his mic in his hand on that side. He did tell the company in the end what really happened. At the time he said he'd fallen down stairs and didn't tell them how bad the injury really was.
Both is mother and father recovered and are now doing fine.

The thing with UA-cam views nowadays, at least when it comes to BTS, is that they filter their views extremely through the algorythm. Sometimes you can even watch how the viewer count sinks because UA-cam deletes them when they think it's from bots.
When you for example watch the same video more than one time after another it isn't seen as "organic" by the algorythm and streams have a higher chance of being counted if you are substcibed to UA-cam Premium. Also if you don't interact with the video, like pausing, rewinding, liking or commenting it is often seen as a bot view and gets deleted (it's not like there are people who just want to watch the video - UA-cam thinks ...).
The same happens with BTS on Spotify for example. But for some reason BTS' filtering rate on all these platforms is one of the highest of all artists, there are statistics on this and it's really ridiculous at this point.

That number you saw at Roscoes is the number of views for Amygdala, not Roscoe. 😄
He is one of the majority who started with BTS.
Amygdala is part of the brain that manages emtions and feelings.
    This is a triology.
    Daechwita
    Haegeum
    Amygdala
The last one is more like a prequel to the other two.
The wound down his eye is present prominently in the two Yoongis of Daechwita.
In Haegeum its healing in the policeman/ gangster yoongi and absent in the other yoongi.
In Amygdala we see that the wound was his own doing. He let his life's negative happenings create a wound.

17:41 celebrating smoking?? Isn't that quite funny how "Heagum" a Koren instrument also means "freeing what's forbidden"?. So him as an "IDOL" smoking in the MV, is a taboo by itself. Idols should be perfect, they should not smoke, curse, drink, have tattoos or even talk about political/mental health problems.
But BTS not just broke 1 or 2 but they broke all of those things.
So in that sense BTS shouldn't be considered an idol. So maybe that's what he mean by freeing what's forbidden? He had said before in an interview that he's already in his 30's, if he gets hated if he smokes. Just because he's an idol, that means there's something wrong with society.
We're the ones putting shackles towards ourselves. So this song is a new type of Heaguem, liberation of what's forbidden, but one must not forget to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence.
Anyways, I'm just probably talking nonsense here.

@@Cyrusyami3:24 I'm not sure if you notice this little foreshadowing but pay attention to the scene: when the police descended to the stairs he was clearly on the phone.
It makes you think the police just received a report of theft so he quickly left. But in reality if we replay the scene a little bit we can literally see who's calling him. 3:22
So if someone noticed that tiny detail, one can understand that the place being plundered was in fact the police's hideout, and the one calling him is his bald underling.
Which means just from the beginning scenes, one can actually conclude that the police is not the good guy as one might automatically assume.
(Which is why in the lyrics it says interpretation is free for all) 3:33 (Cause we are conditioned to think the thief is always the bad guy & the cop is the good guy)
So by that logic we immediately assume the real bad guy is the police himself since he's with the people underground and the stolen money is probably what he got from corruption. Therefore the thief is actually the good guy confronting the corrupt cop. Not to mention the fact that if we watch the whole thing, the cop literally just stole, smokes, torture, and kill someone without remorse. So he's definitely the bad guy.
But if we just pay attention to the lyrics, it literally just says we shouldn't put judgement on something we just speculate.
3:44 Cause if we rewatch the scene again, notice how the bald guy made eye contact with the thief Agust D in just a split second? But that split second is enough to tell they aren't enemies at all, and that they actually know each other since the thief Agust D slightly nods towards him.
Basically the beginning scenes again foreshadowed how the thief Agust D planned this whole thing. From the start of the plunder, he's after the cop, why you may ask?
Watch the ending scene, the moment he killed the cop, you might think he got arrested cause he's in a police car but he didn't, instead he was just being escorted back to the hideout. Which means the cops, or whoever those people are, are now his underlings.
Cause right from the start it's the cop's position he's after. (That's why he's carrying the cop's jacket) He's the actual villain, he's the actual mastermind. There was no good guy from the start. If we really think about it, he's exactly the same as the cop, he kills, he smokes, he plunder, etc. so how is he any better than the cop?

    • @rafaelsmith5737
      @rafaelsmith5737 8 місяців тому

@@CyrusyamiLastly, if you notice Haegum & Daecwhita literally has the same plot. It uses 2 main characters, One on power and one who isn't, both MV also has an underling who will betray the Agust D on power. The only difference is the settings (Time & place)
In Daecwhita, there's the tyrant king Agust D, & there's peasant black haired Agust D. Daewhita is also a type of Korean traditional instruments only played in 2 separate occasions. One is when the King arrives, & the other one is when an Army arrives.
So when Daecwhita is played in the MV, one should ask to whom it's for, is it for the king? Or the peasant who has support behind him?
Anyways just watch Daecwhita again, you'll see the parallels, in the beginning shots, even the way the king descended on the stairs in Daewhita is exactly the same as the cop descended on the stairs in Haegum.
Both characters are in power & both have scars on their faces. Even the way they leaned on the balcony is exactly the same. Even the way they were betrayed by their underling & git shot by a lower class Agust D is exactly the same.
However, Suga is actually not repeating or re-using the same plot, cause Haegum is the continuation of
      Daewhita.
And even though the tyrant king & the cop are extremely alike, they're not the exact same characters.
The cop in the current MV isn't the tyrant king being reincarnated from Daecwhita but the cop is actually the black haired peasant Agust D who killed the king in the previous MV.
Which explains why the cop is black haired & has the exact same scar as the previous peasant Agust D.
Cause they're the exact same person.
Once the peasant Agust D killed the tyrant king in Daecwhita, he became the new ruler of the kingdom and after being on top for so long & gaining such power, he too became corrupted just like the previous king. So it becomes an endless cycle, the villain is on top, then a new hero arrives to slay the villain, then the hero becomes the next villain & the cycle repeats again.
Cause once something beats the system, it will become the next system.
So at the end of Haegum MV, when the thief pointed the gun towards the cop, notice his strange smile? 5:43
The cop just smirks at the thief cause he already knows what will happen next, cause he has already seen this film before.
      His smile literally says
"Do it, in the end you'll just become another me"
So that's the end of the story.
Except it didn't, though you'd expect the cycle to repeat again, like the shooter becomes the next villain next.
But- plot twist. The thief also smiled back cause he already knows what the cop is thinking. Meaning, him as a character is an anomaly since out of all Agust D's, he doesn't have the exact same scar as the rest.
Meaning the cycle already ended cause you can literally see a dead body lying on the ground. One might not understand but that's the biggest reveal.
In the previous MV, after the king was shot, it was never truly shown if the king was truly killed or not, cause in Daecwhita MV, the ending scene was cut exactly the moment the shot was fired, so there was no corpse to be seen. Symbolizing the villain isn't confirmed dead yet, which means the cycle will repeat again.
But here, we can clearly see the scarred Agust D is truly dead. So the cycle won't repeat since this anomaly version of Agust D that has no scar is too aware what kind of monster he will become.
Basically, this character is too aware of what he is, 6:44
At the end he even breaks character and breaks the 4th wall just to look at us straight in the eye. (But most people won't even begin to think how bizarre that move was, cause most of us are too focused in deciphering what the chopsticks even mean). Without us realizing the character itself is monitoring our own existence.
You see, plot twists aside, though this Agust D is certainly not a good guy, he's not a bad guy either.
4:25 You see when he's being chased by cops, he's carrying a bag of tangerine (Yoongi's favorite fruit). You can only receive the bag of fruit if you specifically bought it.
So he's not really a thief.
Nor is he a greedy person hungry for money. Though he stole the stolen money from the cop, it's not because he wanted the money, cause if that was the case, he wouldn't have burned it. So he's clearly just using the money as bait.
Lastly, he does not kill nor plunder for no reason, so he's not the villain nor is he the hero. So I must say he's a perfect character cause he's neither good nor is he evil.
