Voice Play is a force to be reckoned with. They are known as The Theater Kids. Disney was looking for an acapella group & hired them . Voice Play owns Disney covers.
That brain freezing moment of the brilliance of the arrangement... That feeling is how you discover acapella super groups. Thanks to PTX for jump starting the modern acapella movement.
@@redneckmafi While true, if these were suggested for the near subterranian notes...headless horseman is not quite up / down there ;P On a non related note: his readings of Edgar Allen Poes works are worth listening to too
One of the great things that Voice Play does is it takes your favorite songs, mixes them up, and plays around with them and you end up loving them even more.
Butter is an excellent description of Geoff Castalucci's vocals. He is, hands down, my favorite bass singer currently producing music. (I love Tim, and I love Avi and Matt, but Geoff is my guy).
In the video the one they referred to as ”butter vocals ” was the one BEFORE Geoff -- J None. Personally, I'd describe Geoff's voice as ”treacle” or ”honey.”
Bald guy is Eli and he's great. Geoff (Jeff) is the bass. Lane is the beat boxer. Please react to VP's cover of Tennessee Whiskey. You'll need your helmets!
Geoff (the bass) is a beast! A 5 octave range! He is 🔥! Welcome to VoicePlay! And yes Sam and Dean 4ever! So that noise was from Layne (the beat boxer) the bald guy is Eli (pronounced L-E) and the guy in the fedora, that is J. None. He left for the Navy. Go down the rabbit hole. Oogie Boogie Song, Butter (a BTS cover), Queen in 5 Minutes and Geoff has his own UA-cam channel where he does songs too
Omar's brother EJ Cardona also collabbed with VoicePlay, check out GO THE DISTANCE. VoicePlay and Home Free are close friends, Geoff Castellucci[VP's bass] arranged the vocals for Home Free's Elvira [with The Oak Ridge Boys.
VoicePlay and Home Free met when they both competed in season 4 of The Sing-Off in 2013. That was the season after Pentatonix won in season 3. Home Free ended up winning the season 4 competition. Geoff Castelluci is my favorite bass of all the groups. He can go so low that they can hear him in China.
I love this reaction 😂 one of my favorite original songs these guys just covered Metallica nothing else matters ❤️ I'm sure you already know. but incase you didn't . there you go! Lol love this so much ❤️
From left to right as you are looking at them, you have Geoff Castellucci (bass), Eli Jacobson (tenor), Omar Cardona (guest tenor), Jesse "J" None (baritone), and Layne Stein (vocal percussion and baritone). Both Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix and Tim Foust of Home Free have said that Geoff Castellucci of Voiceplay is a deeper voice than they are (Geoff disagrees), All three are friends with one another. You should check out Geoff's solo cover of the Beatles "Blackbird" if you want to see how huge his range is, and just how low he can go.
I Good thing you strapped in. VoicePlay is addictive. The key to their style is in their name - VoicePLAY. The beatboxer - Layne - does all the cool weird sounds. The 3 top groups have been described as Pentatonix is the student council. Home Free is the guys having a kegger in the parking lot. VoicePlay is the music/theater geeks.
The bass, Geoff (Jeff) Castalucci has his own channel. You should check out some of his solo stuff. Sixteen Tons, Headless Horseman and Blackbird are my favorites.
I listen to Home Free! Have y'all ever noticed the beatboxer's neck (Adam Rupp)? His neck looks like a weightlifter's....he does a 'Drum Solo' during a live show!!
The history behind the popularity of Home Free, Pentatonix, and VoicePlay comes from an NBC singing competition called "The Sing-Off." It was an a cappella only singing competition. Home Free and Pentatonix each won their respective seasons. VoicePlay came in 2nd behind Home Free. After they each appeared on that show, their UA-cam channels just exploded. You should go back and check out some of their Sing-Off performances...they are really good.
If you like the bass sound, you should check out Voice Play's "My Mother Told Me" (The Viking Song). V P find every harmony possible and execute them flawlessly. Take your pick Voice Play, Home free, Pentatonix, they are not your grandparent's barbershop quartet A Cappella. They are all my favorites, different styles, all crazy, next level talented, but always transformative.
Geoff Castalucci (Voiceplay), Tim Foust (Home Free), Avi Kaplan (past PTX), Matt Salee (current PTX) - Excellent bassists all... each with their own strengths and skills. Cool thing is they all know and have sung with each other at one point or another. Entrance to that club is pretty exclusive and tracked by seismologists and vocalists all over the world :D Even when you know a note is coming is still is a bit disturbing to feel in resonate in your bones.
If you want to hear Geoff (pronounced Jeff) the bass singer show off his range go watch Blackbird. If you want to hear another great cover you have to watch Man in the Mirror. Oggie Boogie and Daddy Sang Bass are also great songs. Also all band member info is in description of their videos.
"Help! Help! We need an adult!" 😆 Then your reactions to Geoff, the bass....priceless. As a kid growing up in the 70's, Kansas was one of my bands (still is), and this song is my favorite of theirs....and they freaking NAILED IT!! Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voiceplay - all beyond phenomenal. The Oogie Boogie Song is where you want to go next, but anything they do is worth hearing. Also, for more of Goeff's molten lava and insane range, check out his solo versions of "16 Tons" and "Blackbird." You have a new subscriber!
Supernatural family rocks! Love that you love Voiceplay, I love them very much and I discovered them because of this very song. I was an instant fan. Keep checking out more of them, you won't regret it :)
Every time I watch this reaction I laugh harder and harder at Chris saying "I see a black Impala and on the back there is some license plates." I laugh because most cars have license plates on the back yet every single Supernatural fan knows exactly what he means. It is so crazy. I still haven't watched the last episode. I have seen the last season but not the last episode. I am refusing to let it go. Guys, I just love your Voiceplay reactions!!
What you said about putting time resonated a lot with me. Geoff Castellucci, the bass, used to sing on a Disney park. He sang baritone, because that's where the roles were. He is entirely self taught on how to sing bass, and his own channel has some videos with him talking about the techniques and answering questions, as well as some amazing content -- check Sixteen Tones or Misty Mountain, for instance. But think: he was NOT a bass singer. He worked at it.
also i'm super excited for the future voiceplay reactions!! one of my favorite groups!! Geoff as a bass is AMAZING, and Eli on the tenor is *chef's kiss* and Layne, the one on the end opposite Geoff, is an amazing beatboxer. super excited yall!! and if you want more Foghorn Geoff, check out "My Mother Told Me" !! and if you wanna see his 5 octave range, "The Oogie Boogie Song" legit kills me every time.
FYI. Geoff of Voice Play and Tim of Homefree both have done versions of John Denver’s “Take me home country roads “ excellent. They both have each dropped versions of Misty Mountains from lord of the rings. Geoff just recently dropped his about a month ago. Tim dropped his a few years ago collaborating with Peter Hollens. Note Peter Hollens and Homefree did a great collaboration of U2’s “ I still haven’t found what I’m looking for “. All of these guys are so talented and I love how they all collaborate with each other. Enjoy the rabbit hole
Okay, right to left: Layne Stein, or the human jukebox, beatboxer or when he sings, baritone. J.None, baritone, recently left, but was with the group for 4 years. Omar Cardona, not much to say really, tenor, he was also in their 'Superstition' cover. Eli Jacobson, tenor 2, his name is pronounced like the name Ellie, he is insane in the higher range. Geoff Castellucci, the superhuman bass, has a vocal range of (C#0)B0-A5, he is a bass, but he can also go into a tenor range. He has some solo work on his channel where he sings all the parts, I would recommend Sixteen Tons, Misty Mountains, or Take Me Home Country Roads
First view, first comment!! lol. Thanks for watching Voiceplay!! Another rabbit hole to jump down haha. And yes, first thought is a black Impala haha. Dean's fav song! haha
Definitely more Voiceplay.... Awesome. Geoff (Bass) also has his solo channel. Singing covers like "Blackbird" by The Beatles, "Country Roads" & many more. But the next song should be "Oogie Boogie Song" by Voiceplay, from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Geoff is the Lead Singer for that song... Anyways, ya'll Take Care & God Bless.
That, my friends, was dragon's breath. Also, just to note... Voiceplay's longtime high tenor left the group a while back and they have been filling in with guest vocalists, hence the "featuring" thing. Omar has helped them out on 2 videos.
I'll put it in order of the video Far left: Geoff Castellucci (bass) Bald one: Eli (pronounced "Ellie) Jacobson (Tenor Middle one: Omar Cardona (Tenor/as some comments said he's brother has also colaborated with VoicePlay in Go The Distance) Fedora one: J. None (Baritone/he left recently) Far right: Layne Stein (Beatboxer) (He arranges most of their songs, tho Geoff also does some) I'd recommend the Oogie Boogie Song, Bang!, The Little Mermaid Medley, the Moana Medley, Tenesse Whiskey, Warriors, Frozen 2 medley, Butter, This is Halloween, Phantom of the Opera, My Mother Told Me and their latest Of I were a Rich Man/Girl
Knew you would love them! They are my second fav group (behind Home Free). Fans of the three groups don't even try to compare them because they all have their own style and flavor that you can't compare. I'll be waiting for more reactions :)
You guys are going to enjoy this rabbit hole! Geoff, their bass guy, goes sooooooo low. These guys do themes, too. Their cover of Oogie Boogie’s Song from The Nightmare Before Christmas is crazy and features Geoff. They have a Boy Bands medley and man, I could go on. Lol. Great reaction! Enjoy these guys! Btw, their beatboxer does all of the cool sounds. :) Speaking of foghorns, listen to My Mother Told Me. Geoff gets LOW and the harmonies are sweeeeet.
Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci is the bass here. He, Tim Foust, and Avi are all friends and Tim helped them extend their ranges. They have similar ranges, but very different sounds. Geoff goes into subharmonics whereas Tim prefers the growl technique. I always think of Geoff like a ping pong ball bouncing all over the octaves. Voice Play was on the same season of the Sing Off as Home Free. Many fans cross over between Home Free, Voice Play and Pentatonix. My preference is Home Free, but I do listen to the other groups as well. It's always fun to watch these a capella groups break people's brains with the WTF was THAT?! Welcome to another rabbit hole! Great reaction! ❤
Listen to ALL Voiceplay's videos and enjoy the ride. They are incredibly talented, work hard and they do most of their videos 'in house' because they usually have family or friends do the camera. They usually do their own makeup, costuming and usually Layne or Geoff do the arrangements. Geoff's wife produces a lot of their videos. Do more of their music and you will learn A LOT about their style and energy.
Alright!!! You've now completed the Trifecta of Acappella groups, Don't really want to play the " I told ya so" card but I did say that anything that they do is fantastic! This was an excellent choice as a first exposure to Voice Play, I'm sure that you'll be learning and experiencing more of their works as well as continuing to explore Home Free and Pentatonix. Don't forget that these groups all work a lot together and support each other! Its not uncommon for them to appear in each others video's or for them to do the production and arrangement each other. Like I said Welcome to the Trifecta! Keep bringing honest, no BS reactions.
I'm having a ball watching you two react to this video. Forget the music; you guys are one of the funniest comedy acts I've seen. Welcome to VoicePlay. You've just fallen into one of the deepest rabbit holes around. Your reaction is what the Brits commonly refer to as "totally gobsmacked." I really enjoy your comments and explanations on music technique and technical functions in your reviews. For me, it really adds to the appreciation of the groups or bands being reviewed. Keep up the good work and I'll keep chuckling.
While all of their stuff is great, I recommend VoicePlay's "Kidnapped" story line -- Trapped, Panic in 5 Minutes, Parts 1 & 2, and Queen in 5 Minutes (that's the order I watch them in, anyway). Also, between VoicePlay's "My Mother Told Me" and Geoff's cover of "Misty Mountains Cold"...chef's kiss.
VoicePlay is awesome! You can't go wrong with VP, no matter what you pick! 🔥 Recently they released a cover of BTS's "Butter" and "If I were a Rich Man / Girl" from Fiddler on the Roof. They are both amazing! Other VP favorites are "Tennessee Whiskey", "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes", "Queen in 5 Minutes", "Daddy Sang Bass" ... the list is endless! But please do "The Oogie Boogie's Song" next. Please let me know if you want the links instead of the song names. Welcome to the VP rabbit hole! New sub 🤪
I got out my tuner. D1! Geoff Castalucci. He's literally the only one I know, because I'm just getting into Voice Play. Check out the Oogie Boogie Song, and Geoff on his own doing 16 Tons.
And if you want true terror look up the most recent videos... Including Halo where he hits a c-0... Which is to say four keys above the end of the piano.
All the suggestions below are good, but I would urge you to do a reaction for Queen in Five Minutes. This features there more theatrical side and each one in the group has their chance to shine. Even Layne, vocal percussion, had a small but memorable solo.
I know you guys like 'different' music. I'd like to recommend Panic! At the Disco's "High Hopes," performed by a Japanese group called Drum Tao. They are a stage percussion/visual performance group that does the entire song on traditional Japanese instruments. They do have a guest vocalist that does the lyrics in English. I love a good cover.
Absolutely love VoicePlay. More, More, More. Geoff Castellucci's bass is awesome. He also has covers he's done on his own channel. Layne is the beatboxer. They also go all out with costumes, make-up, sets with a lot of their videos.
Glad to see you discovered VoicePlay too! So pumped to watch you guys react to more of these great songs, cant go wrong with any of PTX, HomeFree or VoicePlay!
I saw that eargasm at 3:05, lol! Then later, Geoff low note flex...immediate pause and meltdown! ROFLMAO! I LOVE watching first time reactors to Voiceplay. You guys are really fun but also knowledgeable about music to catch and point out the technical stuff. New subscriber. ^_^
Voiceplay is overall incredible, and unlike any a capella group out there! Check out their latest performance, If I Were A Rich Man! Also, Oogie Boogie Song showcases their bass' unbelievable talent
I had never heard of this group before this video. Another amazing a cappella group. Just what I needed. As though I don't spend enough time on UA-cam with Pentatonix and Home Free videos and reactions.
You guys are some of the best, most fun, song reactors I've seen. I subscribed after your 1st Pentatonix reaction and I love Voiceplay and Home Free as well. You obviously understand and LOVE music, and you really make it fun to listen to all these songs again with new perspectives. I love how genuine you are, so many reactors ham it up too much or just watch without adding much. You add comments that really give me incite into the music, plus you can tell how much you truly enjoy it! I've actually re-watched this reaction 3 times cause it was so fun (I wish I could give you more than 1 like as well!) Please keep at it. Loved your Pentatonix reactions, too, and re-watched some of them. Voiceplay's "My Mother Told Me" and "Warriors" (by Imagine Dragons) are both great as well. And you HAVE to check out Geoff's solo stuff, especially Sixteen Tons and Misty Mountains Cold.
I am a HUGE Pentatonix fan. I have been since 2011 when they were on the Sing Off. However, I love the other groups, too. PTX will always hold a very special place in my heart, they were there first, after all. That does not, though, take away from my appreciation of what the other groups do. They are all so talented, all so very humble in their greatness, and all so gracious to their fans. The time they take before a video premier, and after, to spend in live chat with their fans is amazing. The members of PTX all do live IG casts pretty regularly where they interact with fans. The guys from Home Free put out special behind the scenes videos, plus will throw out the occational FB live or IG cast for fans... *pants a moment* Breathe...okay. The work doesn't stop with practice, for any of these groups. Almost all of them have side projects they're working on, right along with the work they do in their respective groups, and it never gets in the way of what the group does together. All of them are amazing. What keeps me coming back to your reactions of videos for acapella music, though, is your genuine respect, your true love, for music. The respect for the level of talent in each of the groups you cover comes through in every word you say, even when you're playing to the camera. And, I know how hard it is, sometimes, to keep to any schedule, especially when you've got a life away from the studio and the camera. I understand the commitment the two of you have made to making these videos for us. Thank you for that, as well. Mad respect, all the love, and really great content. Keep being you, fellas.
Black impala was the first thing in my mind too. Geoff, the bass of the group. He is a phenomenal singer. Check out Oogie Boogie song by Voiceplay. That's not the lowest note he can hit. Jay- fedora guy- has left the group and joined the Navy since they did this video
Geoff Castellucci (the bass guy) has his own YT channel with his own mostly Acapella covers. The best one to start on in my opinion would be his Take Me Home, Country Roads cover
Loved this reaction! You guys are awesome! You’re making your way through all of my favorite acapella groups! I’d like to throw Voctave into the ring for consideration as well! Their version of “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” should go on your Christmas list for sure (and I really think you might need more than a week.) lol Their Disney Princess Medley is amazing and also their Great Movie Medley!
LOVED your reaction! The details you guys picked up were awesome. I adore VoicePlay - hard to go wrong with anything they've put out. My suggestions would be either Bang! or Tennessee Whiskey by them, though.
Mi know you do your 2 second system check when you start, so I guess it followed that it sounded like they did a sound check at the beginning of the song! Awesome! I love seeing the first first listen to VoicePlay.
I'm here for Matt's sweet dance moves! Lol great reaction. I would have never listened to groups like this before I appreciate you guys showcasing them.

Geoff, the bass, is a piano player, so your observation makes sense.
Speaking of foghorns, listen to My Mother Told Me. Geoff gets LOW and the harmonies are sweeeeet.
I'm glad so many people are requesting oogie boogie. It's a hilarious piece that showcases a lot of Geoff's range.
SUPERNATURAL!!!!YAY!!😃one of my all time favs!!😊❤✌
They were on the sing off season 4 with Home Free. 2 great groups
I love this song
Geoff is their bass and him and Tim are friends
Check out his bass work onOgie Boogie's song and My Mother Told Me! outrageous !!!
Love the reaction guys! Good mix of shock with a serious analysis. Geoff's "say" on "hear the voices say" is a G1, fyi :) keep it up!
You have been Castelluccied! Check out his cover of Blackbird, 16 Tons, country Roads. He has a 5+ octave range as well.
I love seeing and hearing someone's 1st reaction to Voice Play! It's like...EARGASM!!!!!
Recently they released a cover of BTS's "Butter" and "If I were a Rich Man / Girl" from Fiddler on the Roof.
New sub 🤪
Hi from a fellow Supernatural fan! Glad you found Voiceplay! Love this group and this song!
i just love it when People get confronted with Geoff for the first Time :-D
I got out my tuner. D1! Geoff Castalucci. He's literally the only one I know, because I'm just getting into Voice Play. Check out the Oogie Boogie Song, and Geoff on his own doing 16 Tons.
actually, the note is G1, there are 2 G1's in the video, in the middle and in the end!
And if you want true terror look up the most recent videos... Including Halo where he hits a c-0... Which is to say four keys above the end of the piano.
They covered a song called Butter and it starts with: "Smooth like butter..." XDDD I would recommend that song :D
They just released a cover of If I Were a Rich Man. It's awesome. Almost forgot about their Queen in 5 minutes.... It's a must to check out.
great reaction! And I'm pretty sure that cutoff you spoke go was done by Layne (beatbox man!!)
My first time hearing Voice Play. Thank you
All the suggestions below are good, but I would urge you to do a reaction for Queen in Five Minutes.
Pentatonix, Home Free, VoicePlay, next obvious step would be Voctave.
Absolutely love VoicePlay. More, More, More. Geoff Castellucci's bass is awesome. He also has covers he's done on his own channel. Layne is the beatboxer. They also go all out with costumes, make-up, sets with a lot of their videos.
My recommendations here, 21 pilots medley, queen in 5 minutes, and journey medley. You guys are awesome
Great reaction! I love watching people’s first time hear voiceplay! Amazing
I had never heard of this group before this video. Another amazing a cappella group. Just what I needed. As though I don't spend enough time on UA-cam with Pentatonix and Home Free videos and reactions.
Geoff Castelluci the bass singer also has a video on how to sing low, growls and subharmonic
Geoff is the bass, and he is beatboxing the guitar line exactly. Layne does the beatboxing percussion.
Absolutely 💯 lovely 😍 ❤ 💕 Thank-you 😊
Geoff Castelucci is the bass
Black impala was the first thing in my mind too. Geoff, the bass of the group. He is a phenomenal singer. Check out Oogie Boogie song by Voiceplay. That's not the lowest note he can hit.
Jay- fedora guy- has left the group and joined the Navy since they did this video
I recommend reacting to :oogie boogies song" and "My Mother Told Me" by VoicePlay next
4:00 A-freaking-men, bro. That will now be forever paired with the song for me.
Geoff Castellucci (the bass guy) has his own YT channel with his own mostly Acapella covers. The best one to start on in my opinion would be his Take Me Home, Country Roads cover
Love voice play
Loved this reaction! You guys are awesome! You’re making your way through all of my favorite acapella groups!
I’d like to throw Voctave into the ring for consideration as well!
Their version of “Oh Come
All Ye Faithful” should go on your Christmas list for sure (and I really think you might need more than a week.) lol
Their Disney Princess Medley is amazing and also their Great Movie Medley!
LOVED your reaction! The details you guys picked up were awesome. I adore VoicePlay - hard to go wrong with anything they've put out. My suggestions would be either Bang! or Tennessee Whiskey by them, though.
One song that Voiceplay does, that I think you might like is My Mother Told Me
Mi know you do your 2 second system check when you start, so I guess it followed that it sounded like they did a sound check at the beginning of the song! Awesome! I love seeing the first first listen to VoicePlay.
Please react to You're a Mean one, Mr Grinch. They did a cover to this classic, and it's a masterpiece!
I'm here for Matt's sweet dance moves! Lol great reaction. I would have never listened to groups like this before I appreciate you guys showcasing them.
My date, "So what are your hobbies?" Me, "Watching people listen to Geoff Castellucci sing for the first time."
