That wasn't just an aircraft carrier and nato ships, that means there were at least two nuclear ballistic submarines around there are probably some destroyers hiding out too.
The first ship in the video was a destroyer brother. Idk what a strike group consists off but I'm pretty sure it's 1 aircraft carrier, 1-2 destroyers, 1-2 submarines, then Probably more but I can't think of the rest. A Full strike group is big. Just one of our strike groups becomes the most powerful navy no matter where it goes and that's just 1 of our 11. Pretty wild. One can to down and you've still got enough to have two strike groups together in 5 different areas of the world if you want
@@TheAnnoyingBoss It apparently is traveling with 17 ships and one nuclear attack submarine, apparently it's a short deployment and only to friendly countries. @@ericwilliams2546 Its always a good thing to practice and train with Your allies. Having other countries warships train in carrier task forces only strengthens the capabilities of NATO.
@@ericwilliams2546 Less NATO is planning a big war, more encouraging Russia & China not to plan a big war themselves via a show of force. The Ford's strike group alone would have a fighting chance of defeating the entire Russian or Chinese navy, add the Lizzie's strike group & (even with the limited number of F-35s delivered to the Royal Navy so far meaning that R08 would serve primarily as a secondary base of operations for US squadrons off of CVN-78 rather than fielding its own aircraft) that combined force could comprehensively annihilate the entire Russian or Chinese navy.
I brought this up. I've had to scrub paint off my dad's car because the CPOs and Os were taught a lesson by the Battle group's CO about paint, ships and maintenance. He ordered all ships compliments on the ships and had painting details. He waited to order it on a day when the paint was gonna blow onto the CPO/O parking on Pier Dr. And that was for minor rust showing. Quite the sight, isn't it?
The aircraft carrier is just a ship. Its Carrier Air Group (CAG) is what makes it a warship. (I was a crewmember of USS Kitty Hawk (CVA 63) from 1962-1963.)

Got to see this beauty in Halifax on a very balmy 20 degree late October day (Very rare for this time of year). Got as close as we could while not purposely trying to piss off the security detail patrolling the water (I think those machine guns were loaded). Got to see the Eisenhower about 10 years earlier, again in Halifax Harbour . Can't ever say I've seen 13 billion dollars before - but hell was it impressive. And deck was fully loaded (unlike the Eisenhower which was empty of planes - just a few choppers).

My dads dad served on the fdr back in the late 50’s early 60’s. I don’t remember the year he retired, but it had to be close to 68 or so cause I remember a story he told of one of the first few Skyhawks being flown in and landed.. he said he asked the pilot if he could just peak his head into the cockpit and said he did and it was the coolest thing in the world to him at the time..
He later retired and became a merchant mariner, and what we inland river rats call a Shore-tankerman (load/offload Chem barges )
Because of hm, I too became a Merchant mariner
Yeah it is kind of crazy to think how the super carrier Forrestal class was closer in size to the ship I deployed on USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3) then the Ford class.
I have 2 friends that were aboard the Independence... Great stories...
It's sad that all those old ships are gone. My father was a plankowner on CV-66, USS America, and it was a travesty to scuttle a ship bearing the name of the nation just for some weapons testing.

Beautiful ship.
Since it's the Ford, there's probably a Seawolf class sub lurking underneath. That dude is deadly!
@@TheAnnoyingBoss It apparently is traveling with 17 ships and one nuclear attack submarine, apparently it's a short deployment and only to friendly countries. A lot of the ships aren't American though, they are testing compatibility with NATO forces and training them how to work in a carrier strike group. Almost like they think NATO might be involved in some sort of big war. I was honestly kind of shocked this was deployed, I didn't think it was ready yet. This is the only Gerald R Ford class carrier. Right now it is the flagship of the American Navy.

The first ship coming in, the Hughes, needs a paint job. And the GRF is impressive, Very impressive.
Salt will eat a boat up in no time… it really doesn’t take long.. it prolly takes almost as long to paint the mfr than it would to rust
@@MississippiKid96 Thnx Hayden. Good to know.
The Chief Boatswain would've been hung from the yard arm for the condition of that paint. That ship was almost more orange than grey.

It's roughly the same size as a Nimitz class carrier. But because of new efficiencies it needs about a thousand less crew members. And it has two nuclear power plants onboard, meaning a) it can stay at sea for at least 20 years, and b) it has super electrical power potential, and there are probably related weapons on board that the general public isn't aware of.
