Charlene, I have fished many many times off the jetty where you are now during my travels. Super good sized squid to be caught off the jetty. Go to the bait/fishing shop in town where you are and purchase a squid jig. Just cast it out as far as you can and slowly reel it in with an occasional quick jerk. Also from about October to end of Feb are Blue Swimmer Crabs there. Stay safe and enjoy your travels.
Best times to fish are early morning or late afternoon and around the high tide peak. If you're fishing on a beach, look for gullies because that's where fish congregate.
I'm glad your back and feeling great. I loved my van life time, I now live in a nice 3bed apartment in Rainbow Beach but I will still take my van down the beach and watch the footy with the other vanlifers... I honestly miss it, there's just something about no boundaries or the freedom or whatever it is we love about it.
