    Just found ur channel from the US & the top looks adorable on you.
    Here’s a tip on your pocket placement .... save the pocket pattern to be cut out after u sew the darts in > place fabric (right side up) in general area of pocket matching the pattern up (boats) > then lay pattern on top of fabric taking in account where you fold for finishing & other markings > slightly pin pattern in place > remove, fully pin & cut out. WALA there you have it perfectly & professionally matched.
    Happy sewing in 2021 !!

    Loved the sew along. Made mine yesterday. I extended front facing to include the tie bit so when you tie fabric with obvious right side and wrong side when knotting it is better as both right side. Works great! Love Bentley!!! 😁😁

    I'm dreaming of a beautiful pink linen with pink glittery buttons! To be worn with a white or blue denim skirt or jeans 😍 I have been freezing cold in our winter season here in Australia and am preparing ahead for warmer days. ☺️

    The print on your Gilbert top is just too cute. I’d probably choose a double gauze or linen, something light since I live in very hot and humid area. I’ve seen a few Gilbert’s done in leopard print, and I’m loving that as well.

    • @SewingBunny
      @SewingBunny  4 роки тому

      Yes those fabrics are a good choice! I would like to make a linen version! Or you can get the double gauze with a leopard print on too which is super nice! X

    I think this is so cute made up in the sailboat fabric! It looks lovely on you. The only method for pattern matching pockets that I’ve found successful is to place my front pattern piece over the fabric on the side that the pocket will be on. Then I centered the pocket pattern piece over the pocket markings (accounting for seam allowance), and I then trace any major designs onto the pocket pattern tissue. For example if I were using your lovely fabric, I would have traced an outline of the larger sailboats. Then I take that pocket pattern tissue and overlay it on the same design on my leftover fabric. After I have my pocket constructed, I then glue the pocket in place with a washable glue stick. (I find this so much quicker than basting.) I use a warm iron to dry the glue, and then I sew. It sounds way more complicated than it actually is.
    If I were making this pattern, I would use a large scale gingham in a beautiful blue color that I have in my stash. I think it would look lovely made into a Helen’s Closet Gilbert.

    I've just seen a rainbow multicoloured Lady Mcelroy cotton lawn that would make a fabulous Gilbert top! I would definitely stick to cotton because I'm pretty new to buttonholes and wouldn't want to make my life extra difficult with a shifty fabric. Love your cute matching boat buttons, what a perfect match!
    I haven't seen many of your videos but love that you include all the steps, especially picking a size as its one of the most important parts and lots of people barely mention it. Have subscribed for more great videos!

    I have a furry sewing companion called Tango who looks very much like Bentley. I love your shirt and the sew along was great, I’ve just discovered you. I’ve not sewn anything from Helen’s Closet before so the shirt would be a great intro. I have just had a fail with a Sew Over It Marguerite dress (should of toiled) I think with the offcuts and some crafty cutting the floral viscose fabric could become a Gilbert. I have some lawn that would well too. Thanks to you and Helen for a chance to get my hand on this pattern.

      Hello Jo’s Sews yes lady McElroy fabrics are a beautiful choice 😍 yeah I seem to always have 1 or 2 things not go quite right but to me it’s all about learning as I am no expert and we all make mistakes 😁 How I see it is that if people see I made an error it may help when they make it to look out for that bit too and also that even with small mistakes the overall look can still be fabulous 🤩 x

    I would use some chambray from my stash and then use a contrasting thread for the top stitching and match the buttons, also from the stash to the thread. There are great end of summer sales at my local fabric stores so I might just have to make another one in a fun summer print, possibly in the bright orange with a black sun glasses cotton print that I believe is marked down to $5 a metre. I love your fabric choice. I always have to move one or more cats away from my sewing.

    I am so looking forward to start making my Gilbert Top, I will be using cotton stretch poplin. To make my life easier when I make this, I am going to use 'Wonder Tape' it is a double sided tape that makes doing teeny weeny hems so much easier. (Giveaway) Haya. Cannot think of a better way to spend an hr of my time watching your wonderful sewalong. Such an adorable tie shirt, I have been after 1 not to dissimilar to this style so I will enter the competition & I would make mine out of fabric with animals on it, I have some kitty fabric as well. I do have a thrifted top similar to this 1 & I was going to dismantle it & re create similar from it :) Bentley is always a Paw-fect helper isn't he? The fabric you used I have been eying up, it reminds me a little of water color effect, as if the boats/yachts are painted on :) Thanku for sharing & happy sewing. xx
