      @Jordan Jones Well said. It's essential for fathers to teach their children to cope with the physical universe, becoming competent by their teens in tool use, furniture making and repair, home repair including plumbing and electrical---the child doesn't have to master these skills, obviously, but she needs to know enough to be able to figure out how to learn what she doesn't yet know, and to not be afraid of any task in these areas.
      A competent child is, I'm certain, a reasonably happy child.

    Love that you had your daughter a part of your video. I purchased the same settlers wrench, and what I found or felt was that the drill could be a bit longer. Tried making a Swedish torch, and it ended up having to be pretty short.

    • @wesman7837
      @wesman7837 Рік тому +1

      Where did you get the wrench, and what is a swedish torch?

    • @cholseng
      @cholseng Рік тому

      @@wesman7837 I believe there are at least two different ways in which to make a Swedish torch. The first is where you would take a smaller diameter log (4-6"), and take the the settler's wrench (scotch eye drill bit) and drill down the center of the log. Then you would drill a horizontal hole in the side of the log to match up with the first hole. Next add small dry tinder, and start it on fire, continually feeding it till the log starts burning from the inside out. You could use it as a heat source for both warmth and cooking with, plus it's a slower burn, so last a little longer. The second way is to take a log, would probably be more effective on a larger diameter log, and split it into fourths. Next it out a bit of each wedge. Once that is done, assemble the pieces back together then use some type of material (wire, rope, etc) to bind or hold it in place. So it should look a bit like a hollowed out log. Add kindling to the center, and light it on fire and feed it till the center of the log catches on fire.
