  • I've had a few requests to go over what damage the bike sustained after my recent tumble.
    It comes up surprisingly well considering I don't have the upper crash bars fitted.

    Scratched guards are something to be proud of.

    Hope your knee is better! - Unless you want to sell your bike any time soon I would not worry about the scratches. Wear them proudly 😉.
    I ride the 800 model and had a similar crash. My clutch lever did break, as did my indicator, which is placed lower down on the 800. So it’s good to see that the redesign on the 900 seems to have helped there.
    Save riding and regards from Europe.

      Oh - and when it comes to tires... have a look at Heidenau K60 Scout perhaps. Good on the road as well as dirt - and last forever. I did 10’ km on them in 2022 and would guess the rear is still good for more.

      Thanks for the tires tip, I will be upgrading soon. I was hoping I could hold off a bit longer but did a trip just last weekend (video coming soon) and realised I have to upgrade.

    My dealer told me that a new tank costs ~900€. That made the decision for upper crash bars a lot easier. 😅

    It seems that your engine guard buckled a bit, it looks just like mine after a fall where it bent inwards towards the engine a bit. But I am glad you and your bike are OK. Well, it's not a real horseman if it hadn't fallen from a horse mate; keep riding.

    I fell on the other side, dented the muffler, scratched the lower bars and scratched my barkbusters. I think they stick out further than the original plastic guards and save the plastics.

    hi i have the same bike in the same colour as you and live in QLD AUS i dropped my bike doing a U-turn on a gravel road and stratched the tank were you did and havent been able to get it painted yet with my lowere crash bars like on your bike they got a bit messed up so i cleaned them and sanded them lightly and sprayed them satin balck it looks so much better one thing i have found with this bike is i cant get the left lower plastics with the tiger sticker on it parts are hard to come by in aus at the moment but apart from that i do love this bike alot. keep up the good work on the videos

    check frame, same mounting on Tuareg 660 has led to frame cracks and stress thru impact energy transfer through pillion pegs . Also the lighter the sump guard/ bash plate the more energy is transferred to the engine case because of the direct mounting. Look at what happened to OZBIKER's rally pro 900. suggest removing pillion mounts if not needed, and getting heavier bash plate that is using better mounting positions

    • @australianadv
      @australianadv  Рік тому

      I suppose best would be a heavy bash plate but with weaker mounts so the mounts break before the frame does.

    I had a left side down crash, but my bike faired a lot worse unfortunately. Tank dented, hand guard snapped, tiger side plastics cracked, left front indicator and housing broken, lower crash bars crushed against engine casing, rear peg and subframe bent. Left fork leg and handlebars twisted.

    • @australianadv
      @australianadv  Рік тому

      I'm sorry to hear that, it sounds a lot harder than mine. I was on pretty level ground with a loose surface, so maybe slid rather than grabbed. I hope you didn't injure yourself.

      After too many trips to the doctor for too many injuries, I have the following recipe for optimal healing:
      1. Follow the doctor's orders
      2. Commit to physio
      3. Have a relentless positive attitude.
      Remember that self-care is not selfish!
      Bye for now.

    the scratches are no fun but if you had the upper crash bars on, you would most likely have either a dented gas tank or broken sub-frame (or both)

    • @australianadv
      @australianadv  Рік тому

      I’ve heard rumours about that, you make one part string and the weak point becomes something more valuable.

    • @philippebureau2
      @philippebureau2 Рік тому

      @@australianadv It's no rumours. There are SEVERAL threads on multiple forums. I myself has cracked my front sub-frame and the left upper crashbar bent 2cm toward the gas tank. it was a fall at 5 or 7 km/h. I dropped because I did not have enough speed during a training session in soft terrain. Triumph now has a revised version with a 3rd mount point but it still attaches to the front sub-frame mount so still risky if you ask me.

    • @paulhughes8037
      @paulhughes8037 Рік тому

      I believe the vast majority of damage relates to the tank protection bars, especially to the beak sub frame. Lower engine bars don’t seem to be an issue except in one unluck occurrence. Is that a reality out there?
