Yes, but French craftswoman Lison de Caunes does a similar kind of magic with straw marquetry.
She uses broken and sometimes dyed strands of straw and glues them to a base. In the process, patterns that shimmer like gold or precious stones are created, which can be used, for example, to decorate furniture.
Lison de Caunes reveals her technique in her studio in Paris.

a special kind of rei , found in France ( 2 producer ) just cultivated for straw creation.
I had no idea this was a thing. Seems like anyone could get into it has a hobby.
