Japan sure has a lot of gambling for a country that outlaws gambling
Stores like this probably exist solely because gambling is outlawed. It required them to get creative and come up with this
Technically it's a grey area because you never walk away with "nothing" legally in most cases for something to be classified as Gambling there has to be a chance of ending up with zero payout
They're just good at finding alternative
It is the pachinko capital of the world
In night market or festivals, you will find a lot of games that is basically real life lootboxes. For example, stringpulling game that will mostly gets you a packet of tissue for $1 per try. A Russian Roulette that will immediately land you prize that ranges from a holiday ticket to a freaking tyre cover.
Then you have the sports betting as well, especially horse races.
Why they shy away from actual casino or gambling? Maybe because organised crime was quite a real thing back then.
Love how Aki and Joey have a "curious japanese products unboxing room"
I wanna see Joey make a series where he and the boys buy Lucky Boxes and see how lucky they are
the unluckiest person has to do something bad
That can be a trash taste episode
Oh man a Trash Taste Special on Lucky Boxes to see who pulls the highest MSRP haul from their boxes would be neat.
@@IceMaverick13 who knows maybe Joey might see this and if it happens on trash taste you can say you saw the idea
And they can steal/swap lucky boxes and risk getting better or worse items
That bathrobe is something I'd wear proudly around the house but never buy myself 😂
Joey, I'm Brazilian and I can talk for you that Technos is an amazing and a bit expensive brand here. My father had one of these watches and I remember their lasting about fifteen years with daily use and basic maintenance.
You mean a knock off of a rolex daytona lol
@@N3M3S1SZ Technos has actually been around a bit longer than Rolex even though their both Swiss. The difference is Techno never gained popularity anywhere in the world except Brazil and Japan and it has now failed in Japan with the manufacturing rights being sold solely to the Brazilian producers.
While Techno has like 30% of the market share for watches in Brazil you likely won't see a single person wearing them in any other country.
@@N3M3S1SZ yes, all the watches around the world are just a knock off rolex
Interesting, yea it looked really similar to a daytona so thats why i mentioned it loll. Thanks for the insight.

I think the watch/jacket price might be from 'outstock' - when a shop sells out some single leftove items for dirt-cheap, because it's ironically more profitable to loose even 70% of the price over having to store something (especially random leftover pieces of bigger set/colleciton).
I think that that’s how those mystery box businesess run in general
But thats still huge stonks, no way you could buy those new any cheaper anywhere else
@@TeKett Yeah, I think especially with clothes and electronics all the 'outlets' and 'second-hand' shops are often just duming grounds for whatever goes out fo season.
There's a few older videos from many years ago somewhere on UA-cam of a guy buying several of the 100 dollar mystery boxes from what I can only assume is the same store. They all contained Technos watches of varying styles. I think that's just part of their business model, to sell these specific watches.
@@TeKett I mean 'proper' outlets then - the ones buying unwanted stock and the likes. I have a lot of clothes from those and they're no worse in quality, though I guess it might depend on the country?
*lose
That robe outdoes Connor's coat.
The bonus tickets are pretty devious, marketing-wise. Not only do people feel like they got extra value (especially since you seem to be able to somewhat pick your prize), but it gets people back to the shop, where they might just buy more boxes.
Lastly, disappointed your new bags didn't get used for the bonus prizes, instead of the plastic bags ;)
Connor has the Supreme jacket, Joey has a Dollar Bill Bathrobe. I think Joey's got the better look now.
Now we just need garnt to get himself some drip
It's a 100 dollar bill bathrobe!!
Once Garnt get himself his own drip outfit, I wanna see them all wearing it in a Trash Taste episode lol
Garnt needs to catch up, but Chris is definitely getting the "laziest drip" award this year.
I think the $1 million is a bookmark.
Speaking of gacha. I have a friend of mine in Japan who saw, no joke, two Yakuza toughs spending yen on those gacha games and losing their damn minds in a good way over Hatsune Miku figures they got from them. The image in my head makes me laugh.

That sounds hilarious. I bet this was episode in gokushufudou

Are you sure those yakuza toughs weren't kiryu and majima?
They got taste
When you’re whole business revolves around making lucky boxes, you can’t really be ripping people off. If you’re known for that, word travels fast and they’d have no business. So it makes sense why you’re getting your money’s worth, even if there’s some items that don’t fit your interests (but then again it’s a lucky box lol). Maybe they should have it labeled by hobby’s/interests?!

When Joey pulled out that attack on titan werewolf game and said “and for those who don’t know werewolf” my instant thought was “please don’t let this man say among us”
I really hate mystery box type things that aren’t “universal” like a phone case or size specific item of clothing because that really can be a waste of money. I know some clothing stores do them but I’m always super wary unless it has sizes. In North America we have a craft store called Michaels and sometimes they do mystery bags/boxes. I got a bunch for $2 once and it ended up being several hundred dollars worth of crafting supplies. They’re fun, I wish we had more of a culture of doing mystery boxes/bags but they’re kind of just random when you can find a place that does them or you ah e to get them from super sketchy online sellers that have started selling them on like eBay.
I’m also very entertained how much Joey hates the marvel things though, like I’m not a massive comic book fan but I could get behind some of the pin badges and stuff and it probably has good quick resale value on a local marketplace.
I brought my first mystery box with clothes but they let you puck your size. Thankfully everything they sent me fits and is sick.
Book stores also do mystery bags!
A lot of bookstores are actually wrapping up books in paper so you can’t see the cover or titles, then they’d give you a brief description on the outside.
And you pick which ever one sounds interesting, but it’ll be completely random. SOme places call it “blind date with a book”
Right? I actually loved the Loki clip. It was sooo kawai ❤
@@lexdraws1729 ok. I love that!!! Wish I had a local bookstore that did that. 😢

About the drone sounds like the lost bind sound from the transmitter, there are also looking for receiver sounds and the happy sound of finding the receiver . Of course the battery might be not charged enough to get the cheap ass drone to run. If all else fails RTFM! (read the f'ing manual!) Most of these things work but sometimes binding the transmitter to the drone requires to have one foot in a running brook and the other on a toad. The cheap brands also require you to do the binding process before every flight. It should work for a few flights unless it's a brand that was rejected by Hobby King which is sort of the lucky bag store for R/C hobbyists.
Yeah, was looking for this comment. I had a drone that didn't work unless the battery was fully charged. If it wasn't fully charged it made a sound like that.
I think it also doesn't help that he had the throttle more than halfway open when turning on the remote control. Usually you have to put it all the way down to make it connect to the drone.
In 10 years joey will look back on this moment as the start of his crippling gambling addiction.
Either joey was just very lucky or those lucky boxes are a lot more fair than other ones..
He probably got a really good store compared to the past ones
Everything was priced on par for what he spent. With 10 minutes of looking I found the exact jacket. For 40$ on aliexpress. Really it's only worthwhile if you enjoy the items you get.
The towel thing for the bottle is to catch condensation off the bottle to save your counter tops. Living in aus after seeing this im going to sew my own
That jacket genuinely surprised me! Considering thats a real avirex flight jacket you definitely got your money back on that $200 lucky box. Thats a very nice piece of clothing that I would wear, 110%
The jacket is actually 40$ from aliexpress ifnyou want the link LMK
On the back it says it's an "Avirext" not Avirex. It's fake unfortunately.
The Jacket "patches" on it are really handy if you can't figure out what it is.
Lol no
Jacket itself might be real nice. Flight jacket it is not, however. Everything written on it is absolute gibberish. "US Navy" on the tag, LOL.

Hi Joey! I am Swiss, born and raised (still living here) and I have NEVER even heard of Technos...
I wish they had this concept in the United States. I live for mystery items. You can actually go on eBay and buy mystery boxes. I think the randomness and surprise element and anticipation makes the price worth it. Like a scratch off ticket. But it's not a mainstream concept in the US, so if this is a known thing in Japan, then I'm all for it. Very pleasant video.
Wasn't there already a thing like that in the west, but on the internet? And didn't it go down because the price was always way too high than the contents of the boxes?
If they did, you will always get crap from it
They usually have them at anime and comic conventions!

a technical appreciation: it's insane how much jeoy has improved over the years at his technicalities w the frame, sound, camera, music and especially editing! so props to the incredible king mudan. it feels so alive and engaging to a point that even if there's no commentary the video feels confident itself w sound and image. it feels incredible, sorta thing that makes u reminiscent abt things u love - warmth in general? haha. but its great how Joey has not only enhanced the content but w it, the technicality of the content. so good!

The watch is an homage to one of the most sought after watches currently, Rolex Daytona black with ceramic bezel. The design is really nice

I just got a reminder of how long I've watched Joey's vids when he mentioned the vending machine 🥺 and seeing the 7 years ago on the video too..
Hmmmm...I was thinking...How about you 3 Trash Taste guys do a Lucky Bag Special. You guys will buy different price range of Lucky Bags and the winner will be decided based on the estimated total worth of the items from the Lucky Boxes

I think the little towel at 21:00 is for condensation on cold drinks! So you can drink them and keep your hands dry :)))
It's been so long, since Joey did one of these, that I instinctively read "I spent $500 at Japans craziest Crane games".
Damn you Connor!
🤎🤣🤣
The lucky box is like a Mystery trip you pay thousands of dollars for and end up with a trip to a parking lot or candle museum.
Damn, my first instinct was to look if Connor had also uploaded a crane game video. I already assumed you had to have done this with him.
I recently watched videos of these guys who were selling mystery boxes at a sneaker convention. Most of the people who commented were upset because they claimed that the value of the contents was much less than what they had sold the boxes for. Apparently they were all the same and they didn't have a box that had a prize or something that would have made it worth the gamble.
The absolute drip of that jacket and watch...giving Connor a run for his money!
I'd love to see you do that $10 vending machine again, that was pretty weird lol.
A $300 jacket that you didn't intend to buy is not worth a 1/10 of that price tag
In America, that Mickey Mouse tote bag would have costed $30 or $50 if you spotted it being sold at a supermarket
And all the marvel stuff at least 8 dollars per item

6:08 Joey: "I also got a-" Ad cuts him off mid-sentence: "New spicy pizza from Pizza Hut." This kind of thing has happened to me a couple of times which can be some comedic timing, but for some reason the idea of a lucky box of that size holding a pizza that is larger than the box is kind of funny to me. Oh my goodness Joey! I was expecting this to be a total disaster, and it was just great! I hope to see your very cool jacket in some future videos. It’s not quite a bomber jacket, they are short, and fitted to the waist. You appeared genuinely delighted with everything you received. Thanks for such a lovely, positive video.
as much as i would have loved joey despairing over the lucky boxes, seeing him getting happy over certain items is really adorable haha
I've been watching all of these videos every year and that mickey tote bag is seriously one of the best items you've gotten and it slaps.

So if you move into a new flat, and have no supplies (no cups, no jackets, no robes) but want to look cultured in a flash, buy some lucky boxes?
🤣
You can tell Joey is going to be getting some mileage out of the jacket and the robe.
Joey is proof that no matter how big your channel gets, it can all eventually go down the drain if you either can’t make good content or if you collab with much better creators. Dude’s just riding on Garnt and Connor’s talent now.
Ah yes, Lootcrate, but without having to wait.
That postcard screams "Graphic design is my passion".
In regard to that $100 box, other people spend thousands of dollars on Pokemon displays, just to end up being scammed, so spending that on a mystery box feels a bit more safe lmao
