    Bummed as we have only had our R1S for 6months. To me the big things I’ll miss are the updated cameras, new light bar and of course new computer with Nvidia. With that being said, I got at pre price hike (quad) and pricing out a tri motor puts me in the 109k range which is $$$ and does not make any financial sense. At the end of the day gen 1 is still an amazing vehicle and we should be proud to have lead the charge for Rivian.
    Again, painful but I’ll have to sit it out and look at the R3X when it eventually arrives.

    At $75k for the quad motor, we are going to keep our R1S forever. What I liked with the updates that I wish I had would be - high def cameras, bar light and the photochromatic roof. The computing power is great, but as long as we can get the ADAS updates along with Google cast for entertainment, I'm golden. I do prefer our frunk interior over gen2. I also prefer our R1S road wheels style compared to the new ones. I feel in love with the orange-yellow calipers and the accents on the badging and interior. I'm happy to have been part of the journey with Rivian and I know that they will succeed. Maybe another 5 years, we'd love to add the R3 the family.

      Remember the new roof system is kind of the worth of both worlds. When its turned off the view out is hazy and not clear. And when it is turned on, it doesn't not completely block the sun out. It just diffuses the light and provides some privacy. Another thing the gen 1 are better at is much larger standard and large battery capacities. New ones are much smaller. You also got the air compressor, speaker, and fog lights with gen 1. Gen 1 and gen 2 both have their benefits.

      @@ayushmalpeddi2793 however gen2 uses a different battery chemistry, battery density, weighs less and has by default the more efficient motors + heat pump so maybe smaller capacity is a wash. Haven't looked at too many side by side comparisons to honestly know.

      Don't think the ADAS updates are headed to gen1 it seemed fairly clear cut that those features require some sensor and camera changes or at least are being pitched as that is the case.

      Heat pump will be a game changer for colder regions.

    • @TrevorMack
      @TrevorMack Місяць тому +1

      Though colder regions will get negatively impacted by the switch of battery chemistry to LFP which is where heating and conditioning the battery is more needed (below 32° that is)

  • @rickmcdonald7075
    @rickmcdonald7075 Місяць тому +1

    I tow a trailer, but I am thinking about getting an R1T standard pack as a second truck, rather than replacing my F-150 PowerBoost. The LFP battery pack is the big advantage for me. I won’t tow very much with it, but I live in rural Arizona, the roads are pot hole filled, icy or snow covered in the winter so the other features will be appreciated. The heat pump is another big advantage.

    I gave some brief consideration to trading in my 2023 R1T Quad, but even speccing out an equivalent Dual ended up being pretty much the exact same price I paid for the Quad... so as much as I'd love to update, I am going to have to put it on hold. I have to remind myself that when I bought this truck, I told myself that I planned to keep it for as long as possible. Yes, it's sad to see the advancements as technology moves forward, but so long as my truck continues to do what it does now, I will be happy with it.
    And I think that's the most important thing: when you think about your vehicle - without addressing any comparisons to the new models - are you happy with it? And if the answer is yes, then there should be little to no reason to consider upgrading. In a world where I have upgraded my phone every couple of years - because I can - I have to think about the truck differently. I have to think about it as a truck, not as a tech gadget. Despite how much of a tech gadget it really is.

    I finally got the R1T fixed to where it is running great. Sitting at 27k miles and about to hit my 1 year mark. I am having a little FOMO... but my issue is ... I want the dual max because even with the A/T package I am looking at 370 miles. It will only be 2k more than I paid for the quad large. That being said... I wont get the new interior/paint though. If I went tri motor I drop down to 330... I don't want to lose that range.
    So unless rivian does give an incentive to trade in the 23 R1T... I will be sticking with this bb for a long time.

    Hope Rivian offers attractive incentives to us early adopters. Rough having been patient and waited through all of Rivian’s miscues, then have an R1 for less than 1 year that is significantly outdated. On Gen1 Driver+, any insight into when more roads will be covered? Took 2,000 mile trip from NorCal to Oregon and almost none of the highways were covered. Bummer when you’re driving 5+ hours per day. Gen1’s have plenty of cameras and sensors and were heavily marketed as being equipped for advanced driver assistance. I’ve driven 3-4 yr old Explorers and Outbacks and even rented a low-end VW Taos with far superior “Driver+” road coverage than my R1 so I’m disappointed Rivian is so far behind.
    I like the improvements but wonder whether they’re the right ones to sell more cars. No one is complaining about Gen1 0-60 performance so I would have thought Gen2 would focus more on equally mind-blowing range and/or improved charging curve. I also think they’d benefit by giving the dual motors all the off-road modes of the tri and quad since very few people will take the tri and quad off road at those prices. That said, the biggest issue is still price and Rivian will be challenged to reach volume at current pricing. Once you get past the 0-60 times, Rivian’s are significantly behind vehicles like the new Landcruiser and GX550 in terms of features. I wouldn’t be buying the Gen2s at those prices.

    Fortunate that I waited... I don't like that they are limiting some of the interior combinations to only the higher trims... that sucks. But when I start configuring the Dual Max with all that I want, I am already a few $$ away from a TriMax where I can select the interior that I really want... So my plan is to order a R1T Ascend TriMax. It has everything that I want/need.

    Lane change camera on driver screen is coming to Gen 1 per Wassyim himself. Stated it on reddit and on Out of spec video. I hope other things that haven't been confirmed anywhere come to G1 like launch control. Biggest thing I am bum hurt about is them not giving us interior RGB options which is total BS knowing we for sure have RGB interior lights.
    I plan on getting the G2 for sure in forest green with ocean cost interior :) but I will have to wait till next summer due to some negative equity :( Hopefully by then they will have some in inventory for quicker delivery and also lease rates and incentives will be better... Fingers crossed

      @@j0kr4L I am unsure if Rivian can offer all the ADAS features to Gen 1 - I think if they could, they would since they should have learned from the preorder price hike fiasco, not to anger early adopters. It's not like Rivian has a million customers right now - they are still a small automaker with around 80K consumer customers. They want these customers to become brand loyal so I can't see Rivian holding back features just to try to get existing owners to upgrade.

    I feel for your decision back and forth. I've been through many of these. Thanks for the video.
    BTW, based on a few tech videos on batteries (Engineering Explained & one on Electric Vehicle Society by Dr Jeff Dahn); I would say it could be better not to say "no problems" charging LFP to 100% daily. Perhaps say something like LFP batteries have less issues with charging to 100%. If 100% is not needed daily, it is still better for the battery to not fully charge daily. But, if needed not a big problem. (The battery person OofS talked with at Rivian's G2 event also "kind of said" the charging recommendations would not change b/w the two battery types. It wasn't fully clarified by any means though; just like a quick question/answer.) And, yes, I've seen things that say to charge to 100% sometimes to keep the calibration.
    My apology if the BTW comment comes across the wrong way. Normally I don't post comments with this type/"constructive" of feedback. I've appreciated your channel and got the impression you appreciate learning potentially new things and making adjustments. Again, my apology if this came across wrong.

    I leased my (2023) R1T QM with Ocean Coast / Wood interior, All-terrain package exactly 1 month ago today. The prices kept dropping and I pulled the trigger on one of the last available QMs in the San Diego area. I'm paying $580 and change with tax, though I did put down $7k or something like that. Configuring what I'd say would be an equivalent Tri-motor 2025 would be a $108k truck, probably a $1000 lease payment. I'm just fine not having 15 more horepowers, a few better cameras and Driver ++ that I probably won't use any more than the Driver + that I don't use now. I would like Sirius XM (I thought that was already promised) as well as Google Maps. I'm fine without CarPlay, just want Google Traffic data more than anything else. I also prefer real interior door handles. (Did those get replaced with buttons or was that just speculation a few days ago?) Thanks, Jose for all your great information and content. I think you'll be fine with your "old" Rivian iTruck. Just borrow one if your really need to have on in your hands to review. Get yourself the R2. That's going to be the volume seller.

    Extremely bummed out that Rivian already dated our new R1's so fast. It's great for their business and as a shareholder im happy to see them cut costs and hopefully make a profit by the end of the year. But someone who has an 23 R1S and a 24R1T being outdated is heartbreaking. I truly hope Rivian offers a trade in special to upgrade. What percentage of UA-cam Rivian owners are writing off the full cost of their vehicle as a Section 179 "business expense" of their UA-cam business which can offset a large chunk of their primary wages if they work outside of social media? I've looked at the benefit of small business deduction vs. taking the EV tax credit (when Rivian qualified for it).
