Most of the people who use braided line, like myself, use either a monofilament or fluorocarbon line as a backer. This works great, and you don't have to use tape, super glue, or anything else to keep the braid from slipping.

@@DieterMelhorn braid is ok to use as main line when you use the bank rig you taught me with the swivel thanks it works like a charm that bank rig is a life saver if you don't own a boat I used a 30lb mono leader

Great video. I use a braided line for catfish. I use a monofilament backing. Fireline is my favorite fishing line.

I'll have to do the tape trick next time. I've always gently wrapped the spool a few wraps then kept tension on it while I reeled it. Cool tip

Wow just WOW! I love your content. You have a story tellers voice and you seem to pick your words very carefully. Well done. So I am coming at from Northern California and I have a couple questions for ya. I see you use Andies Mono line I assume 20 lbs. I was wondering what knot do you trust for tie'in on hooks and rigs. I have heard all kinds but it sound like you have far more experience to not trust a particular knot. I lost one of the biggest fish I have ever had on my line to a poorly tied know on the hook. I can tell ya'll are in the eastern parts of the USA and I just don't hear a ton about catfishing Channel Cats here in the west particularly Shasta Lake near where I live. Any tips on bank fishing for channels cats. I usually fish around dusk to around midnight. Caught a couple using Bacon with a Santee rig. I heard channels cats key on Fat, Proteins and Salt. You know anything about that or am I over thinking it? Anyways have a great day and I sure look forwards to more videos they are catfish therapy for when I can't get out to fish. thanks a bunch for all you do for us.

You’re very kind, and thank you!! BTW, I’m in Sonoma as I write this!!
You’re not overthinking it, you’re just thinking. That’s good. There are not many absolutes in the right or way to catch fish.
Some rigs, bait and gear are better for a particular situation. Don’t be afraid to experiment and see what works for to!

I tied my spool to a tree and put it on the reel. Then I take the line and hook it up to a tree with a swivel and I go back and forth a few times. This is with braided line

Could you do one about baitcasters? I just bought a piscifun XS 40 and I birdnested the first 3 casts. I’m used to baitcasters just not conventional reels.
