Thank you very much for your generous assistance in publishing the tutorials for the Sony Z1. The little nylon ring gear on the take-up table had split and come out. I have repaired the ring gear with super glue until a replacement part I have ordered arrives. The machine works fine for now.
Great tutorial. I have the same camera, but I believe I need to replace the drum and heads. The assembly itself. It's not much of a stretch from this stage, it seems. Do you have another video related to replacing the drum and heads? As an assembly, they should already be aligned, correct? The symptoms for my camera include the following; the camera will record, but during playback in the camera, it skips and has blank spots, as if the heads and a drum are not making proper contact. Would you agree to my diagnosis? I was able to purchase my camera for $50 US, at a pawnshop. For the cost of the head and drum assembly, I figured it would be a good investment. What are your thoughts? Everybody is welcome to reply.
Good video. Where are you based in Ireland? I've a Z1 which is giving me a dirty head warning every now and again and giving me horizontal lines in some scenes, plus the odd drop out. Would like to move to a card camera but cost is putting me off.
I am based near London I am from Ireland I would make sure I have new tapes first, as old tapes can have dirt on them, and the tape oxide can come off them, clogging the heads then i would clean the tape path Have a look visually at the deck, see if there is any dust or or tape oxide on the deck
Electronic Workshop Thanks for getting back. I'm here in Wexford so thats why I was asking, in case you had a workshop I could drop mine into. I think you hit the nail on the head. I bought a box or re-used tapes from crowd in Bristol and been using them on and off and the problem started then. The head looks clean, bit of dust but no residue .ie it looks shinny still. Friend said it could be misaligned. Operation reading 159x10, Drum Run 94x10, Tape Run 69x10 so not big use on the camera. Thanks for the help. I noticed on your video you used a special thing to clean the head. What is that?
hi i really thank you for the head cleaning video. i have one question, do have a hdv component cable for the sony fx1? i need one and will pay for it. please let me know. thanks
Hi! I am currently having problems with horizontal lines on a small camcorder....I treied running a Tape Head Cleaner several times, and also even tried cleaning the Video Head with Cotton Balls with some alcohol on, but still it has Horizontal lines...Any ideas why it is like this? I started having problems with it today, as I have done quite a few digitalizing projects the last weeks...
I found your video while searching for some help. I've been wanting to back up my HDV tapes that were shot between 2006 to 2013 or so. I've started getting consistent dropouts. I've moved on from this camera but have a couple of hundred tapes I'd love to transfer. I've tried a consumer head cleaning tape but it doesn't seem to be helping. Do you have any advice on what I should do? HDV playback decks seem to still demand a high price and I'm not keen to purchase one.
Tell me how to reset the counter of the tape drive? If possible.? расскажите как сбросить счетчик работы лентопротяжного механизма? Если это возможно.?

I will as soon as a repair comes in that requires a deck replacement, as all of these videos are of live repairs of customers cameras I should point out to you, if you manage to replace the deck assembly , you will need special equipment to setup the new deck, switching point, tape path adjustment, which is not cheap to buy
The part number for the lcd is: 875320906 The lcd assembly does not come as a completes unit, the screen, pcb,led light come as separate parts I have to warn you, the parts in this assembly are very sensitive to static damage, if you don't take static precautions, this could end up a very expensive repair To get at the lcd, remove the back cover, there is 2 screws near the hinge then you have to remove the pcb and led pcb, to get at the screen if you don't have experience in removing pcb's, it might be better to give it to someone that has
@@ElectronicWorkshop I have problems playing back HDV, the cam worked perfect 2 month ago and now only dropouts, blue screen, in DV mode works perfect, whats happening??
I cannot play back my recording. I had no problem with recording but when I tried to play back the cassette seemed to be empty, cannot see anything. Even those cassettes that I have recorded before, could be played before now I cannot play them anymore, they seem to be empty cassettes. So could anyone help me to solve this problem? Have you made sure your output is selected to the format you recorded on to the tapes, ie., DV or HDV. Unless the Menu item for HDV or DV playback is set correctly, or "auto" selected, the camera in VTR may not display the playback on the screen.
I have the same stupid problem, didnt used the cam for 2 month and now it wont work, seems to be a problem with the headspeed or tapetransport as i read i Sonys forum, expensive to fix, tired about that stuff, better sell it and buy a cam with memorycard

@@christiansanden8005 Basically, you need to replace the entire tape head assembly. I don't have the part numbers or source anymore. Sorry about that.
