- In this video I cover the latest features introduced in GIMP 2.99.16 - the latest development release version of GIMP at the time of this video. GIMP is making some huge advancements towards GIMP 3.0, including the finishing of the GTK 3+ port, which means the old GTK 2 UI will finally be phased out. There have also been updates or new features added to things like the Alignment Tool, Search Actions feature, and the Fill/Stroke dialogue.
GIMP is a free photo editor most similar to Photoshop.

as a pensioner of 76years I enjoy Gimp so much ... using it every day... cheers to everyone working on it..
great to see Open source coming into fruition of even more relevance between GIMP, Inkscape, Blender things are looking great. Yay for Opensource! O)
Subscriptions were the last straw, for me. So happy I can keep working without a monthly expense!
Let's not forget Krita too ;)
I seriously can't wait for the 3.0 to come out and play, it has a lot of potential, let's keep the dream alive
✊
i use gimp everyday
Appreciate you making this for us thanks
Thanks for watching!
8:00 Ok, that looks pretty good!
And hey, some extra screen space doesn't hurt :)
Do you prefer the "merged" Menu and Title bars at the top of GIMP, or do you like them as two separate bars? Why?👇
Sir, could you make a tutorial on how to make flyers, posters, banner billboard and something that are printable? Those projects tend to have smaller text (flyer, brochure) and it's really hard to add text in gimp, I need your instruction on how to make it right. Thank you
I use GIMP daily.. what a useful tool !!!
Hello Michael, great review as always Top.🔝🔝👏🎬💥😉👍
i think the number one reason why the users are not adopting GIMP is its user-interface. It is very unorganised and old fashioned, even dedicately trying for many times within 6 month i dont get used to its tools. Now i will download some themes like cleargimp so i can find more familiarity.
Without non destructive tools like adjustment layers GIMP is not a deal breaker. Also, the layout of GIMP can be inspired from krita which is way more organised and clean.
I hope gimpy behavior is like Inkscape when it comes to text editing, i find it really hard to change font, font size, letter spacing, etc. It's really different to Inkscape 😣
I'm excited with all these new contributors, really don't know how that happened, but I hope we get to see the results of this soon
One thing I always get annoyed by when I use the Text Tool is that the size and color of the text I chose in the on-canvas-tool is always overwritten by the text editor in the tool bar. There is obviously no back and forth conversation between this elements.
I hope this is fixed in the next version.
I agree - the text tool is inconsistent and confusing.
Is there anything like Photoshop's 'Selective Color' for Gimp? Or other color grading tools or plugins?
I just wish they will add smart guide..those percentage guide is damn annoying. Inkscape had done it, but i hope gimp will have one real soon.
We look forward to GIMP 3.0 running smoothly on 4K Displays.
In the current 'stable' version, icons and layout on 4K displays were a bit problematic.
It will grow in popularity as user interface preferences move closer to the industry standard.
gtk 2 on linux with hidpi is tragic, I'm also waiting for a gimp 3
Wouldn't it just make more sense to just put the swatch colors in the dialogue box for Black white foreground, background and pattern swatch, with the option to choose?
am I wrong or it seems that adjustment layers are still out of the road-map? What is your thought?
They have been earmarked for GIMP 3.2 for a while. Once GIMP 3.0 is done, they can move on to tackling that feature.
I work on a six year old laptop with GIMP 2.10.32. Will this version slow my computer ?
GTK stands for Gnome tool kit not Gimp tool kit as stated in the video.
It was originally called GIMP Toolkit but they may have renamed it since GIMP fell behind on GTK
@@DaviesMediaDesign Ah, it's confusing that they went for the same initialism. Thanks for the clarification.
when do you expect 3.0?
Developer releases are usually 2-4 months before version releases in FOSS.
I know they have a GIMP 2.99.18 coming out as I've seen some features marked for this dev version, so I would say early next year at the absolute earliest. But who knows.
Why can't I download this version on my pc😢
Hey davies, are gimp 2.99 and 2.10 different or are they the same software, hope you can notice this cause i'm a new user of gimp, thank you
Same software - 2.10 is the stable version, 2.99 is the unstable “development” version (for testing)
Is something like generative fill possible to add to GIMP? I find AI art an abomination, but... some of those AI-powered tools are getting too good to be ignored.
