He did not recite Darood sharif! He mentioned the prophet SAW with respect as he should be mentioned
For your information, we call Peace Be Upon Him, one of our durood sharifs.

So Rahul Gandhi clearly recited the durood.
And Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is clearly one of the duroods, In fact, the shortest one. I have double-checked this fact right now with the scholar.
Attaching durood to the name of prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is respect itself.
